    But how do you know when to use the consonant ㅇas it is and when to use it as ng. E.g the name Gong: 공 why can’t you write it as 곤ㄱ?

      The consonant ㅇ is silent when it’s at the beginning of a syllable = 이 (is just pronounced i) and whenever it’s written at the end of a syllable it’s pronounced ng = 공 (gong); Hope that helps!
