If you were a kid in the ’90s, it’s probable that you watched the animated series Recess. The adventures of TJ and his friends in the Third Street School were rebellious and exciting, and also brought some great lessons for the kids watching. Recess has kept the interest of fans for so many years, and we decided to ask ourselves… which characters were the most righteous? Who were the most evil? Who stands in between? The playground demands answers!

Tristan Tracy Kyle would be 2nd-last evil cause even though he has good intentions, and most of the time forces him to sacrifice himself for the benefit of mankind, he has started problems for many occasions
Exhibit A When Cartman sends Kyle to an ICE detention center, and tell Jeff that they are creating a Mexican Joker by traumatizing American born kids keeping them behind bars like it’s there fault that there parents crossed the border illegally
Exhibit B Even though it was a lie, even if Cartman told the truth, the Middle East will still say it’s true that a fat boy will paint a cow to look ginger in the prophecy
Exhibit C Still breaking Cartmans Xbox even after he said that he won’t unless Cartman found the cure for HIV
Finster might be an authoritarian, but she routinely advices Spinelli and genuinely does care about the students.
Especially at the end of the movie when she orders Dr. benedict to leave the students alone before sicking all the teachers on his goons
Finster belongs higher on the list than Randal; the episode where Spinelli spends a weekend with Finster really shows her more human side

I remember this part of an episode when a little girl climbed up a flag pole and couldn't get back down and Ms Finster had this genuinely concerning look
I believe there was an episode her and T.J became kinda friends.
Randall had an episode, joining TJ & the gang. The end comes down to Randall realizing being a kid isn’t for him, he enjoys being with the adults specifically Ms.Finster. Him & TJ even have a little nod off to one another.
Honestly she’s only an antagonist of the show because we are seeing it from the kids point of view.
I'd argue that Randall is more evil than Finster; we've seen Randall use blackmail and lies to get innocent kids into trouble, but Finster has only ever punished kids who do break the school rules
Finster is lawful evil, while Randall is more neutral evil.

Finster is a genuinely kind person who just wants what's best for the children. I would say she deserves to be right next to principal prickly.
I'd definitely at least swap her and Randall. Miss Finster at least has a reason for being strict since it's her job. Randall is just bad for her approval, and otherwise really doesn't benefit from being a snitch

Hell, even in an episode that Finster admitted she likes T.J. despite him causing the most trouble for her.
@@zeospark9715 There was also the episode where Finster had to be on crutches for a while, and near the end of the episode after TJ convinces all the kids to behave until she's better, there's a moment between the two where they show that while they're indeed rivals, there's some level of mutual respect between the two. I'm paraphrasing the quotes.
TJ: "Once you're better and that cast is off, we're gonna give you 100%."
Finster: "I wouldn't want it any other way."

Dude, I know he wasn’t the nicest the guy, but he was a fair king most of the time! I never saw the Ashleys show respect to an act of bravery, keep their word no matter how much it pained them or ever give someone a fair trial! They don’t even apologize when they know they’ve done something wrong!
I demand a recount or it’s a ticket to the dodgeball wall!
The Ashley's were pretty much the lowest IMO. close to Randall, Menlo, and Finater (the worst in my view)
@Lesbian Amazon Sister He was great IMO. He stood up for the gang so many times. He was only bad in Pharoah Bob, and The New Kid - and even there he was just misguided. He was rarely, if ever, malevolent or mean.
Going to get some hate for this but I think the Ashley’s are worse than Randall.
You left out the mayor. He's definitely one of the more evil characters considering he wanted to send TJ and his friends to 6 different schools just for accidentally breaking a statue they apologized for. Even Ms. Finster found this too extreme!

Plus he does human experiments, like leaving money around to see who gives it back to him.
I'd rank The Mayor right in between Slicer and Benedict, although I'm sure Slicer would be the more evil one between himself and The Mayor if given an equal position of power.

I hated Randall so much when I used to watch the show that I forgot his name and just called him “ that weaselly kid”.

Well in some episodes especially season 1 she show unnecessary amounts of cruelty ,like using essentially mental torture on tj with the box, of course they made her less cruel as the series went on and she started showing a somewhat good side but she was still a cranky, fun hating grump
@@maverickdarkrath4780 True, we have seen the other side of her when she babysit Spinelli. We see her happily interacting with her parents and even bonding with Spinelli after she reminisces about the past. In the one episode involving the kid who hates TJ, she tells TJ that she doesn't hate him. When we see Muriel not at School, she is alot nicer and subdued.
One really good example of how Muriel really is was during the episode where Principal Prickley can finally become the Principal of a Middle School. Everybody wants him to stay and TJ asks Ms. Finster why she don't talk him out of it. She tells him that doesn't want to. That being a Middle School Principal has been his dream for so long that despite not wanting him to go, she doesn't want to stop him because his happiness is far more important.
She put TJ in a box to break him mentally to make him feel trapped and alone to make him an obedient child...fuck her that bitch is evil

James Jaguar Mr Leonard Weems must be either Moe Syzlak’s half brother or even his cousin.
Finster isn't that bad. She has shown that she cares for the kids many times. Protecting Gus from a bully, cutting loose to make Spinelli have a fun time when she was miserable, trying to keep the kids together after they accidentally destroyed the statue, the county fair moment, plus taking on terrorist in the movie completely unarmed.

King Bob is NOT evil at all ! Dude, he helped the gang so often. He's basically their protector. He gets misguided sometimes (Pharaoh Bob), but mostly he IS a fair ruler.

He made all the kids build a pyramid out of mud to the point of heat exhaustion and made Guss feel isolated on his first day. He is what people would call as a ‘power hungering bully’
The Ashleys and King Bob shoulda been swapped, Lawson's Crew was an odd pick for a slot seeing as several members already have their own slots, and where was Mr White? Mr White was the antagonist of two separate episodes.
Otherwise, great list.
I think that Recess is an example of a show with very few "evil" characters. The antagonists, for the most part, are not bad people, just people whose interests conflict with the main character's interests. Take Miss Finster, for example. Most of the time she just wants to stop fights, pranks, students in unauthorized areas, etc. Not an evil motivation, just one that acts against whatever hi-jinks the main characters are attempting.
She’s honestly an antagonist because this is from the kids perspective.
I say Randall's dad, I mean sure you could get rid of Summer and kidnap someone, but it takes a real evil person to snitch out his own son, for a cookie🍪😈

I never really saw Principal Prickly or Ms. Finster as antagonists. Ms. Finister was in the first season, but both teachers grew and were expanded as better people throughout the series.
They are only antagonists because it in the point of view of the kids.
If anything Miss Finster cares about the kids. You can see when there is something that can harm then she lays down the law. She is strict not evil, and she has shown her affection numerous times.
If you've only watched the early episodes, you would know why she got such a bad rap in this video. She was portrayed as a total villain at the start. She got a lot better as she was fleshed out.
People often confuse tough love with evil too many times.
If Ms Finster didn’t use the method of tough love the whole place would be in chaos as we saw when she was dating Hank the janitor.

Watching Recess is what being a 90s kid is all about. Also, I will agree that Gus cam get carried away in certain situations, attemting to trap his bully, Gelman, and trying to get out of school via a note.

I think you dont give Miss Finster as much credit as she deserves. Sure she can be cruel, but like Prickly she started off wanting to help the kids and I believe she still wants that. But the years got to her, and there's a particular event in "Guam" that gets mentioned in several episodes about her past. From what little I've pieced together I can only theorise that she had a marriage that broke up, or at the very least a significant other. Before anyone mentions her previous relationship with Dr. Benedict, that was a long time ago and it honestly seemed like they were dating at best. Whatever happened there, shes clearly a weathered woman fighting on because of her pride and dedication to her work. And there have been a few moments where shes shown fairness and even kindness, like how she punished Randall for starting the food fight despite the fact he's her main snitch. She didnt treat him with exclusivity once she was sure she knew it was him. Furthermore shes had a few heart to heart talks with Spinelli to help her through her issues. Finster literally lives alone with a catflap she uses to let in strays. So not only does she have a caring side but its clear shes lonely as shes willing to let in stray animals for company. She only has her job and thus she wants to keep order to help make Principle Prickly's life (as well as hers) easier.

I was born in 2008. We watched the movie "Talking the fifth grade" in, you guessed it, fifth grade. I found out 'Disney's Recess' was a television show. And I fucking love it.
Fun fact: Ashley Johnson, the voice of Gretchen, also did the voices for Ellie in the last of us and Terra on Teen Titans.

If you add in the characters from the movies, then it will have a more good and evil spectrum. I only say that because I remember the first movie, and recently watched the jungle movie.
1) Ms. Finster definitely should’ve been lower on the list

1) Why? Miss Finster has shown numerous times she actually cares about the kids, especially after Season 1. She's a teacher, it's literally her job to be tough on them. Catch her off school time and she's really a lot nicer. (The episode where Spinelli spends the night with her or the Halloween Special) and she even kicks ass to help them in the movie.
2) The Diggers are not good. They are selfish, and in kind of an abusive relationship. (see the episode where they break up and it really shows how much of an asshole one is but how co-dependent they are)
Ashannon888 yes Finster has shown kindness before and she is a teacher but she just comes off as that nasty teacher who hates fun and kids and tries to make their lives a living hell. Especially with her relationship with Randall

Being an adult now, Principal Prickly does come off as sympathetic. He's just a man who takes pride in his work and wants to do his job well, but T.J. and his pals puts him through a lot of stress. The man just wants to do his job like a responsible professional, he's not a sadist, he just has a job to do, with a salary funded by the taxpayers of this little town.
Not to mention that he's several times revealed himself to have a childish and playful side to him, but is keeping it a secret to keep up his adult façade in order to remain authoritative and powerful (a quite relatable character trait even if you aren't a direct leader)
Miss Grotke is basically Finster's opposite.
When Randall's dad snitches on him it's the funniest thing. It was back when i first watched and now lol

Also putting Lawson's crew is redundant, you already have Menlo, Randall, and Lawson ranked separately. Plus, Randall's father doesn't come across as someone significant enough to be ranked

This was a fantastic show. I think what made this show so unique was how the creators had a background in Nickelodeon.

I'd switch King Bob and Menlo round tbh as King Bob is quite a cool guy whereas Menlo is an annoying jobsworth type character plus he did once team up with Randall to take over the playground.
Tj always solve his problems and admit when he is wrong and most of the time all the problems in recess world are solved by him.
“Man, this whomps” was one of my favorite things to say because of this show.

I like the strong voice singing kid because he loves everyone and doesn't believe in violence and rarely sometimes gets angry at people who says or does bad things so do I... Now that's the brave hearted heroic personality of a character my adorable personality has been waiting for!
Lawson wasn't that evil, he was just cocky. He even admitted in one episode that he actually liked TJ.

Also, you forgot to add a 3rd major villain: DR WHITE! The guy is literally TJ's anti-thesis when it comes to having fun at school! And speaking of villains, there is a 4th major villain as well: MAYOR FITSHUGH! The guy almost separated the main cast and TJ didn't have any plan to counter his judgment until one good character you didn't include appeared and I consider this guy to be even over than Mikey when it comes to goodness: I'm talking of course about THADDEUS T. THIRD THE FIFTH (rolls over your tongue I know)
I know so much about Recess! Heck I watched the series in English, French and Arabic! HELL, Funfact about me, I got the best grade in French Essay Writing in 8th Grade because I took the idea from the Recess Episode Operation Field Trip (French version)!

Miss Finster really cares about TJ and the gang deep down. When the school board wanted to send them all to different schools for breaking that statue she (and Prickly) were against it.
You forgot the digger boys, was patiently waiting then i was worried they would be pure evil as they hadn't appeared.
You missed some important characters, like The Kindergarteners, especially King Sticky and Hector. But overall the list isn't bad.
Miss Finster wouldn't punish Randall most of the time because, in one episode she told Randall that if he had anything to do with I don't remember what she'd give him immunity.
She actually did punish Randell once when he started a food fight.

What about that one guy who tried sending TJ to prison for 'swearing' when in truth he just said a word he and Vince made up. Too be fair he only shows up in one episode so I guess he's not important enough.
