He wrote, arranged, produced his music, he dressed with class, (especially as he aged), had the handsome looks, gorgeous smile and was humble. RIP, sweet man! George Michael was SO handsome....wow! I too have always been captivated and mesmerized by him. His smile, his hair, his voice, his British accent---all that, AND he wrote, arranged, and produced his own music, AND he was the best singer I ever heard! Best live performer, too. And sweet, kind, humble, generous.....he was perfection!

George was and is so handsome. That Faith album was played over and over and over and over by so many of us. This award and his winning the Grammy for Album of the Year was extremely deserved, especially when you consider how much of the work he did on it himself. The songs are some of the greatest of the pop & soul genre - Father Figure, One More Try, Kissing a Fool, Hand To Mouth, Faith. Something like 6 #1 hits (also included I Want Your Sex & Monkey!)

hi everyone. as a black woman I can say I was so glad George won this award.. I remember the controversy and I remember saying that George wrote produced this album. he also played most of the instruments on the album too. I will say I understand Gladys but here's the thing. George could sing whether in studio or live. Bobby couldn't sing in the shower less alone in studio or live. yes I will always love my beautiful George..

GM said here he has always admired soul music as a child. If you aren't familiar with his music. check out, "killer papa was a rolling stone" & "calling you" just to name a few. most of his collabs, aretha franklin, stevie wonder, smokey robinson, whitney houston. he's awesome.

George was only 26 years when he sung with Aretha Franklin and 21 when he sang at the Apollo Theater with World renown black soul artists. Why was him winning this award voted by the public a shock? It was that good. No one was trying to be racist and take the black artists do away. Everyone who gave him shit for it should be ashamed.

But her remarks and record label antics aside, George Michael's music was very popular with black people and was on black radio and black clubs. Gladys had already become a legacy act by the time George Michael made it big...

I realize now how much of a musical genius he was, he sang and wrote his own songs! His album in 1988 was a big part of my life.

Never realized how much this man did for R&B music. I bet you that even a lot of the R&B stars from the 90s onwards modeled themselves after this guy. Faith is a great, great album.

A little over two months after this aired, Whitney Houston herself would face a similar situation when she was nominated in the R&B category at the Soul Train Awards as she was booed for sounding _too white_ back then. George helped usher that British soul to the mainstream. Lisa Stansfield, Soul II Soul, Sade, Seal, and Loose Ends just to name a few. The UK soul artists then were running shit on the R&B scene. RIP George.

I read he and Stevie were good buddies. He gave Will and Kate a cover of a SW song as a gift. I think he sang great in all genres of music. He did have global crossover appeal! I was a moderate fan but respected his talent. His songs bring back cool memories from my youth. It is sad he faced so much emotional turmoil in his life. He was a nice person. According to reports, Frank Sinatra called him" one of the greatest voices of the 20th century"

I don’t think it was disgraceful. Their were other artists that year that had a great album that were PURE R&B. Although Michael’s Faithful album had a lot of R&B to be fair but it also was pop.
