I'm 70 yrs. Old and have seen many science space movies...but still still this day...this blows them all away...the actors, the musical score, the theme , just by the strong simplicity...to me...a masterpiece
@@gabriellen.2886 For sure. I know them well. His music made them timeless classics. The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. Very haunting. Mysterious Island also a fav. I need to go find them on YTube now :)
@@benhill8454 Yes! This gen's Marvel blockbusters and others of that ilk are lots of fun, but my heart will always have a soft spot for the classics. Masterful music + riveting story = excellence. 😍 Merry Christmas to you and yours, Ben!
In 1958 the Jr high school I attended would show a film a week in the auditorium in half hour installments during our lunch break. I recall just like it was yesterday watching The Day the Earth Stood Still during lunch. I could hardly wait for the next day to see the next part of the movie.
Herrmann's score was, perhaps, the most amazing movie music ever conceived. I heard the director say that without Herrmann's score the movie nearly falls flat.
Fascinating to hear one of the greatest Bernard Herrmann film scores, performed live in this suite. Although some crucial instruments are missing like harps, organ, brass, woodwinds and drums, it's still amazing to appreciate it's brilliance, even pared- down to simply theremin, strings and piano.
The theremin player did a great job of reproducing the original soundscape of the film but there are, as you say, too many instruments missing. Imagine what this would have sounded like with the full compliment which Herrmann amassed on the Fox scoring stage under Lionel Newman's direction.
The score is the magnificent part of the movie. Without it, it becomes simply a statement about America's belief that it had the only solution for a future - based in a militarily enforced worldwide corporatocracy cloaked in the mantle of religious patriotism. The music transports us to literally another world. One where our imaginations can literally take flight. You did a beautiful tribute to it. Thank you!
Who is on the piano?...cool video, love the film BTW...Don't remember seeing the two kids pushing their way in with the camera any time I watched movie...
Great music but they showing the movie clips out of sequence and repeatedly and then they stopped after like 3 minutes to go back to the beginning little weird
Growing up on this movie/music, it amazes me that it can be played, but amazes me more it was created!
That score still gives me the chills

This made me weep. This was the first movie my Dad let me stay up to watch. it was my introduction to sci-fi, thanks for the memory
Yes, our dad loved this, too, and we watched with our folks and loved it. Scary as hell LOL and also magnificently profound.
The Theremin players are outstanding!
just watched the movie again. the whole movie and theme is tantamount to what is going on in our world at the moment.
This theme music has always given me goose bumps combine with joy.
What an awesomely fantastic tribute to the film, and music score! 👍👍 10⭐
Wonderful! Perfect vintage theremin timbres!!
We need a landing like this now
Herrmann's most original score, brilliantly performed. Kudos!
Such a great movie. Saw it as a kid but it stuck with me all these years. It was the music... The music put it over the top. Fantastic.
Herrmann's music could sure do that. Remember Jason & the Argonauts, Vertigo, and Journey to the Center of the Earth? And more classics....

Awesome music,awesome movie
Takes me all the way back to that horrifying, wonderful classic movie. Loved it then, and still do to this day.
Brilliant thanks ! Interesting use of the piano ! They are here !

On a similar note, Alfred Hitrchcock also said that Herrmann's brilliant score for Psycho contributed to 1/3 of the effect of that classic movie.
@@boborrahood And Hitch doubled Benny’s fee for his score.

Amazing work my friend.
Wonderful - a great piece for study of film music.
Thank you for sharing this amazing music.
Bernard Herrmann is the best !
Excellent performance. Thank you!!!!
Очень круто!!!!!!
SO well performed.
Wish the visuals had been synchronized instead of looped.
Yes. Agree 100%. Still... Great to see that this is living on and not lost / forgotten to the ages :)
Beautiful.

A completely inept attempt at first contact. Fortunately for us these musicians are much more capable at their chosen task.
Even the military is not so stupid as to open fire with such little provocation. But then...this is only a movie.
