yes, it could have been avoided. THE CHILD SHOULD HAVE BEEN SUPERVISED BY AN ADULT. this can be 100% blamed on the parents of the child. if they weren't going to watch over him they could have at least taught him to look both ways, not to run out onto the street from in between cars.
Back in the late 80's early 90's I first saw these leash's on other peoples kids and thought it was strange. More than a few times I wish I had them on one of my kids over those years. Rest in heaven young innocent child and wishing strength to the Family and the driver.
Look at all of those SUV's on that street next to the park. The average height of a 5 year old is 40-45 inches, which means the child was pretty much invisible until they ran out into the street. I doubt that CRV driver was speeding because a 25mph road + 1 second of reaction time puts you at about where they stopped in relation to the entrance to the park. It's a sad situation all around, but I'm glad the driver isn't charged for the parents inability to teach their child to not run out into the street. I hope this becomes a lesson to other parents about the importance of teaching their kids to not run out into the street/looking both ways.
I was there, you can see my car parked nearby as police interviewed me off camera. It's was absolutely gruesome, a person had their Stomach/abdomen completely blown open and exposed to the open air. It was about 60 degrees out here and there was literal STEAM coming out of their lower stomach. I honestly couldn't believe that the human body was that hot on the inside One female driver was dry heaving after getting out of her vehicle to run up & get a better look, as the person's entrails had smelled like "Bad sewage" (As the lady described). I had to drop my breakfast off at the nearby shelter because I had lost my appetite knowing I had inhaled someone's inner "Fumes", I even found myself dry heaving earlier just thinking about it... I will never forget seeing this

It might be the parents' fault, because by the time I was 5, I knew not to cross the street unsupervised & to look both ways before crossing, was taught my ABC's, how to tie my sneakers, I knew that 2+2=4 and not to talk to strangers, it's the reason why I'm still alive, mom & dad didn't play about my survival, drilled these teachings in my head, made me repeat them & showed me how to cross the street properly & had me demonstrate crossing it in front of them, I even knew how to pray.

I drive college point and the other day going 20 a stupid kid with his ear pods crosses the street and I was turning imagine I would have turn hard ! Then he crosses and acts like he is looking at a house ; than yesterday I was heading to work and literally the father crosses I see no baby and all of sudden I see a small thing run after him ! I wanted to drive up to him and call him stupid ass ! You don’t watch your kid! But I had to head to work!same thing happened with a dog the owner crosses and he is on his phone and the dog crosses on his own and a car almost hit him!! Like watch your love ones! The lady stated that means it was not her fault! It was the mothers fault don’t blame others ! even if you go 20 miles the child will get hurt! May he rest in peace 🪦 but thank yourself
