  • We've been driving our 2019 Kia Sportage EX AWD for almost 22,000km and we're ready to hand the keys back to Kia Canada. How has this long-term compact crossover fared? We go over all the maintenance, repairs, and problems we had during our extended time with this vehicle.
    After spending nearly 6 months with this 2019 Kia Sportage EX we've come to know it quite well. We spent almost 22,000km driving this compact crossover throughout the streets of Montréal and the highways of Québec, with a mini road trip through upstate New York. This long-term test vehicle gave us the opportunity to see what life would be like with a crossover like this, and if it held up as well as Kia's warranty does.
    This Sportage was used as a daily driver, with mostly highway driving done on it. In this episode of TestDrive Garage we discuss what service and maintenance was done on this car during the 22,000km test, and if we had any problems or issues with the car during our time with it. We also talk about our thoughts on this vehicle after spending so much time with it, including the likes and dislikes about it that we omitted from our episode of TestDrive Spotlight earlier on. • Long Term Test Vehicle...
    We wrap up with some thoughts on what you can expect if you're in the market for a compact crossover and are thinking about considering the Kia Sportage as your next daily driver.

    I have been shopping for a new suv and I watched all your reviews on this EX. Glad you did one with snow, would have liked to know how it handled in snow/ice. I bought one today! Made the decision. Thanks for your info videos.

    • @PRNTestDrive

      Congrats on the purchase! Snow/Ice performance will ultimately come down to the winter tires you end up buying. We've been very happy with the performance from Toyo Observe GS-i3 tires.

      How do you like it after 10 months?

  • @thomasgarven129

    Bought a 2022 Sportage about two months ago and like many things about the vehicle. But yes your long term reviews were very helpful. Love the handling as it really seems to stick to the road but of course we have no snow in Arizona, USA, ha ha. Like the standard entertainment system sound. The bass rocks. Like android auto app and how it integrates with vehicle. My first wish list would be "fix GDI engines carbon build up on intake valves" It is going to be a pain in the butt doing a valve cleaning every other oil change. That's it, I like the car. Wife wanted All Wheel Drive, I wanted Front Wheel Drive. She won and mixed fuel economy is about 26 mpg. Had I won it would have been 29 mpg.

    Sportage 4th generations 2020. This car in the market for long time just like name Hyundai Sonata that means people still want to buy this car. I just bought new 2020 sportage. Very good for bucks stylish too I love it. Sportage not super top 1 but at least top 5. Ok looking. Getting more reliable now. Thanks your review very realistic. Really help give me an idea. Ended a lease for a Jeep Renegade, bought this LX AWD in pacific blue. 2.4L gas engine was in both and the Sportage rides much better. Im driving in deep winter weather with ease. The kia 6speed autotrans is waaaay better than the Jeep 9speed junk I just gave back. The Ren had the rear diff assembly gutted 3 times and was growling at 40mph again on 33 of 36/month. Good bye pseudojeep... Im really happy with the basic interior. Im practical and old school. Everybody LOVES the blue I chose. Same shown here. The videos do not do this vehicle the justice it deserves. Thanks for review. It really helped me decide. My other option was the awd Challenger Gt. Maybe next time, it's $10k+ over this.

      Glad to hear you've traded for something that's working out for you! We haven't had a chance to try some of Jeep's crossovers, but we just got off a road-trip with the Wrangler. Hope the Sportage stays true for you!

      I've bought the 2019 LX AWD in pacific blue as well! I've had no troubles in the snow and it has a remote start. I had a few troubles with pontiac before I got it. Love this vehicle, eco on the way to work, sport on the way home.

      @Michael Phillips I've gotten a plethora of compliments and congrats on this car. It def looks much more masculine in person and I stand out anywhere. I bought a set of the Korean vintage "K" emblems, just waiting for the perfect day to do it. It is much more attractive imo and it's still KIA. One company, two oem emblems, yay! Most people don't know about it though.

    Drove behind one today, very nice look. I don't like the front but can live with it. Consumers Reports mentions large blind spots due to "thick rear pillars". I don't think that's bad mileage for a compact SUV. If the lighting is poor that's a big negative. I like long term reviews, good idea.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  5 років тому +1

      CR might be right on the blind spot, I think it comes down to how you angle your mirrors also. I've always had them setup to work as blind spot mirrors giving me excellent visibility around any vehicle I drive. We're told a refresh for the North American market is coming for 2020 with a front end more in line with the Niro.

    Not a fan of the front end at all, but it wouldn’t stop me from buying one. I have a 4x4 Kia Sportage 2.0 CRDi diesel for 12 years a now, still runs great no issues with the vehicle other than the glove box lever snapped, (replaced it). Had to rebuff the headlights and recoat them. Other than service items, oil, filter etc, no issues. I am actually waiting for the release of the new Sportage and hoping they offer a AWD or 4x4 diesel option in my market.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  3 роки тому +1

      Glad to hear your current one is working out for you, and the diesel is a cool plus also! It's always interesting to see how vehicles differ depending on the markets. Seems like the 2022 Sportage will be the same as this, at least for us here in North America.

    I actually like the look of the front end ; its the signal lights on the bumper that are a turn off for me + I've just learned its a bit hard on gas compared to others in its class . At least it doesnt have oil dilution like the CRV's

    Can you get an LED headlight upgrade or buy aftermarket LED bulbs that fit the vehicle?

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  5 років тому

      I mean anything is possible, you'd have to look into it and retrofit the housing to not only support an LED light, but ensure the lights aren't going to blind everyone driving towards you. The top end trims for this come with Xenon headlights, so theoretically you could swap those units in on this lower trim.

    There are much uglier front ends across the board the last decade. I'm getting older, reliability and easy maintenance is exactly what I want. Awd and 2.4L is well enough

    • @PRNTestDrive

    Hot tip for viewers: skip to @4:08 to get to the actual review. I'm getting avg 23 mpg in normal, local driving (suburbs and brief highway segments) in my 2017 AWD SX Turbo. I can get up to 32 mpg on medium to long distance highway driving with the cruise control set. So my actual mileage is much better than the sticker rating....as long as I keep it in Eco mode, don't lean on the turbo, and don't sit idling for long. I love the design of this vehicle inside and out, front end included (although the new lower front air dam on the 2020's is even sharper imo). - it was a big factor in my choice. The headlights are plenty bright on mine and the automatic turn feature on the lights work great. The fact that there was no unexpected maintenance, long term issues with interior fit and trim, or any other issues to speak of is huge. Thanks for the 411 (in the future, you might want to get to the point a bit quicker ;) half of this vid was setup and telling us what it isn't about

    I have a 2017 EX Plus, I get better gas mileage then you listed in this video, (2.4 L engine) in summer, between 7 to 8 L/100km on highway, between 8 to 10 city, in winter (Calgary, western Canada), then it turns into a pig, roughly 12 to 13L/100km city. I personally love the styling, like the salesman had said, you either like it or hate it, there's no in between. LOL
    From what I understand, the front end is due to the same guy who designed the Porche Cayenne did the 4th gen Sportage, you can easily see the resemblance. :)

      This one might not have aged as well, especially with the new generation. That's always the problem with the Korean design language, their designs look good in the current year but end up getting dated when they roll out their updates.
