Cheers for the top feedback, yeah i tried the unhooking on the last video but it was a relatively easy one as pike was so lightly hooked. hopefully this showed little how to deal with a pike hooked a little more difficultly and how to remain calm. nice on for taking the time to comment appreciate it ;-) tight lines Danny

First time watching your blog and thought I do it differently and have a reason. The bottom treble I never use barbles any more as the fish can continue to swallow the bait. This can especially be a problem if you leave the pike in the net before unhooking. It happened to me twice I had one fish on the mat seen the hooks and before I could get forceps it took hooks down. 2nd time was on a double take and left the fish in the net. Obviously both set up have problems just sharing my thoughts.
agree there mate jut hoping for a settled winter temp wise as really want to do more river piking. with the canal i do believe it is a lot to do with leaf litter on the bottom and pike not really seeing bait, hopefully find some clear stuff so i can ledger a pop up and not have worry bout debris down middle
the leaf litter is a pain danny, I only lure fish for pike and the next month or two can be a mare until things settle down. settled temps will do me too, maybe that's why November is always poor?, they get knocked off by the drop in temps but once it stays constant they seem to start feeding again, funnily enough I see that cycle with winter carp too 👍 good luck on the river mate, I may well have the odd trip on there myself once things have settled down👍
yeah for sure mate next month and first frosts really do knock em for six, so many times first frost has come on the morning of a session and you can tell. also the cold i guess gets the fish beginning to think about moving to other deeper areas so you go same area done well and fish moved. good luck too mate and tight lines mark.
+Black Country Piker for now mucka was saying too mate other day when lucks in lucks in didnt finish sentance and float went lol. enjoying it while lasts. tight lines matey
hi mark glad your enjoying the videos mate thank you for taking the time to comment. Its a tough one mark, i do seem to get more bites on the float but when conditions are bad and there is a good flow on holding your bait in one spot does give better presentation. For me i float fish where i can just because i like seeing the float going. wrong way to look at it i guess should be presentation over the type of bite not other way round.
Great videos mate!! Just a question what positives are there to float fishing to ledgering on the bottom with alarms? I've been having ok success, I normally don't fish on rivers and when I do I normally ledger down to the bottom, one with a popup on and another without! The river I fish isn't big doesn't have much flow but I caught a decent double on a float last season. Haven't fished with the float since!
First of all i would stick to what is working mate but in regards the question. I would say ledgering offers you more options i.e popping up a bait or lying on. popping up baits on float set ups can be quite hard and finicky as you then are in uptrace territory. The ledger also offers you simplicity and you can quickly move baits around the swims without needing to keep plumbing the depth on a float rig. Floats come into their own in my opinion on waters where you want zero resistance and a smelt fished down the edge with no weight on the line and only a balso dead bait pencil for indication takes some beating. There is also that magic that comes with seeing that float go that a bite alarm, for me, just doesnt provide.
Nice one Danny! Great job demonstrating the unhooking

Better to strike early & risk losing a fish as opposed to striking late & risking a deep-hooked fish... good lads !! ☺️
blank avoided and another step closer to your target danny👍
yes mark one more pike closer to that target of 10 doubles, been making a few plans to tackle november hopefully it works, tight lines mate.
always a tough month danny, once the frosts hit it seems to knock the fishing on the head for a month or so.

Enjoying your videos. Nice to see some great looking pike. Going piking on Monday on the river. Do you recommend float fishing or ledgering?
