Very detailed explanation with graphics and tools. I am just learning to repair a dishwasher where some functions such as drawing in water and heating the water were out of order. I have found the two output pins (pin 14, pin 12) for these two functions were connected with the VCC (pin 9 as shown in your diagram) in the ULN2003A directly i.e. they are shorted. This means the transistors of these 2 channels were damaged. Thus the relays for the relevant functions were unable to work. I am a beginner in DIY repairing this appliance and I was not certain what I found. Now your explanation clarify the issues. Thanks for sharing your expertise knowledge.
best regards if output pins are connected to either +ve or -ve supply it will damage the ic. sometimes input pins are connected to +ve or -ve, that is normal but the output pins must not connected to ant supply line thanks for your valuable feedback
Hello once again my dear brother Haseeb! Once again another fine video and a very practical one for me. One year ago my Samsung side by side refrigerators went out. It seem that the compressor could not start but was trying as I could hear the overload trip after a period of time and reset later. The Compressor was very hot and lock rotor current measurement very high. Located the processor board and after careful study determined that the compressor run relay (12v 16A) was energized but was not sure if contacts had welded in the close since I was not able to hear the contacts reset when denergizing the compressor via overload. Replaced the capacitor run relay however when removing the processor board from it’s supporting case I discovered the Electrolytic starting capacitor for the compressor. It showed signs of over heating and leaking. It tested very low so replaced it. Due to the numerous attempts of the compressor to start the start winding had opened. Didn’t want to delay matters so I called in the Samsung professionals to handle the matter since now I realized the compressor will have to be changed which meant the system will have to be opened, refrigerant removed, evacuated and recharged. I have been trained to do air condition and refrigeration work and have necessary tool and equipment however I am now retired and don’t do a lot of that type work except on my own systems so I don’t store refrigerant or nitrogen at my home. To make a long story short, Samsung repairmen did come out and the compressor was bad so it was replaced and there was a leak in the condenser coils that was brazed. The overloads were changed but the compressor still failed to start. The processor board was changed and the compressor started properly so the system was evacuated and recharged with refrigerant. Now that was a costly repair but I still have the old processor board and you have now shown me through this video a simple way to test the darlington driver I.C.’s which I suspected one channel was open from a test I performed. I suspect the channel from the driver l.C.may have shorted from emitter to collector since the compressor started as soon power was applied with the old processor board and there should be about a 30 to 45 second delay before the compressor start. Thank you for your time my friend as I know this was a very long comment. Thank you for making me a better technician.
thanks a lot for considering my efforts valuable your experience in samsung product and its restoration is really painful please accept my best regards
I've the same kind of problem on our Samsung SBS refrigerator. We bought it in 2006 and has been working 24/7 and never got out of order since then. But a month ago, electricity went out for 45 minutes. It came and went instantaneously 2 times in this interval. Faulty ever since. Samsung doesn't even support spare parts as they don't accept for repair. I called the backup service that came before for install, but he did nothing but change the relay on the card and went by saying that there may be a short circuit in the cables. There is energy going to the compressor, but there is not even a buzzing sound, not getting warm and even the fan does not work. I found a workshop manual for this model on the internet and checked some troubleshoot. I executed forced operation on compressor by myself. Of course, I have information about the security measures to be taken. When I plugged in the cable, there was a buzzing sound from energy and then I turned it on. Compressor working as it should be quietly. Even started to warm up. I did a continuity test on several wires and found continuity on multiple wires, but possible due to connection to common wires. Also found ice maker sensor is faulty which is not working in the whole cabinet. But my guess is that if the fan is not working, the fault must be on the card. There must be a fault in one of the npn type Toshiba TD622003APG darlington sink driver that controls the relays. Since this driver is no longer manufactured, it is recommended to use TBD622003APG instead. But although it offers the same input and output values, I am not sure if it will be compatible with the card since it is more advanced because I do not have experience. But I like to investigate and solve the problem.
Wonderful explanation Sir. Could we use this same circuit with ULN2003 in 24V system? Here you are using 5V for switching, Can we directly use 24V in the input side? Thanks in advance.
I have uln2003L on my oven range. Can I perform troubleshooting directly on the board without removing the IC ULN2003L? It would seem less trouble. Wonderful video you made!

Alsalam ealaykum wabarakatuhu brother. I'm far far away from this business but I had to deal of repairs because those who can't do their own job. So even I understood your explanation thanks a lot for this. I searched but maybe I don't know the way to find it. Is it possible to check the condition of these drivers with multimeter or should have to follow the basic instructions you gave already?
I think you can also set the multimeter on diode mode, and connect the positive lead to the ground pin and test all the pins with the negative lead to see if theres a diode drop or a short. Have you tried this method?
