    Korra is the Avatar immediately after Aang. The moment the Avatar dies, the next Avatar is born. So Legend of Korra begins once Aang passes.

    A big thing to point out. No other avatar, not even Yangchen, could relate to Aang. Aang, as a 12 year old boy, has the responsibility of not only being the avatar, but also being the sole bearer of the Air Nomad ways of life. Even Yangchen couldnt relate to that position. The reason he doesnt want to kill the firelord isnt just because hes a kid, but because if he does that, then the Air Nomad way of life is truly gone forever and THATS the main reason he is so opposed to killing the Firelord. If there were still other Air Nomads alive, i dont think he wouldve ultimately been as resistant to it as he was.

      Every time I rewatch this show or watch reactors seeing it, I love coming across comments like this. I get to appreciate the depth and impact of this show more and more because of the perspective of others. I really agree with what you’re saying. And it almost made me tear up to think about it. I never thought about it this way until you pointed it out. I always tried to express this - I always felt there was a deeper meaning behind Aang’s resistance to killing Ozai. But you put it into words. Thank you 😭😭👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

    • @poggerwhite

      @seokjinthusiast yeah it really clicked for me when I was watching the show last time. When Aang yells at everyone saying "none of you understands the position I'm in!" I finally realized THAT was what he was talking about. He was right. NO ONE could understand what he was going through, he's quite literally the first person in history to have that burden on him. And who is it that comes to the rescue and ultimately helps him? The last living Lion Turtle. A member of a species that was hunted to near extinction, very similar to how the Air Nomads were. That's why I REALLY like the Lion Turtle, moreso than others seem to. It's very fitting he would feel a sense of duty to help Aang. Plus what the Lion Turtle says to him gives me chills every time and I got it tattooed on my body. "Since beginningless time, darkness thrives in the void. But always yields to purifying light" is one of my favorite quotes ever. The whole thing is great but those lines hit so deep

    ATLA has such a satisfying finale. The Agni Kai between Zuko and Azula is heartbreaking, seeing two siblings on the opposite sides of a war that their father started. They’re just kids, but while Zuko always had his mother’s and Uncle Iroh’s love to guide him, Azula was only ever valued for her firebending. If she wasn’t at Ozai’s side, she’d be alone, and unfortunately she backed herself into a corner by using fear to control people instead of learning to cultivate true, meaningful alliances with people like Mai and Ty Lee. She didn’t believe anyone could care about her because she was only taken seriously when she demanded respect and used her firebending to frighten others into submission. Zuko was fortunate in a way, being the less gifted of the two, because he was forced to find things other than his firebending to define himself by, and had people around him who believed in his spirit and his ability to keep fighting even when it’s hard. And it was his ability to get back up every time he was knocked down, which made him into a great leader. Not his power, but his strength of character. Ultimately it was his failures, not his triumph’s which made him who he was. It was such a journey, Sokka was a big one for me. He started out as a kid who was prejudiced against benders, because he himself couldn’t bend. He felt insecure, because Sokka only ever saw himself as a warrior, and his entire identify was rooted in being skilled in combat and defending his loved ones, his Tribe. He believed woman were not equal to men on the battle field, and was made to feel less than when he was outmatched by a woman because it meant he couldn’t be good at the one thing he believed he should be. What could he offer to world if he wasn’t a warrior? But through meeting Suki and Kyoshi Warriors, through Toph and even his sister, he was able to put his own ego aside and learn from others. His willingness to listen and learn aided him with Piandao, his humility and openness only made him that better of a warrior in the end. And he started to realise other people’s skills did not in any way take away from what he had to offer. He was such a valuable asset, his creativity, his off-the-wall thinking, his inventive spark was something no one else could offer in the way he could. And the first episode being called The Boy in the Iceberg, and the last being called Avatar Aang was a nice touch. If Aang wasn’t so steadfast in his beliefs, he wouldn’t have been able to bend Ozai’s energy, his conviction to who he was and the legacy he wanted to carry on to future Air Benders is what saved the day.

      @jmwilliamsart 6 місяців тому

      Why wasn’t Ursa (Zuko and Azula’s mother) able to prevent Ozzai from influencing Azula even though she loved her just as much? Perhaps Ursa should’ve just taken her kids with her and run away (via ship) to hide somewhere in the Earth Kingdom to get away from Ozzai and his toxic influence?

    • @lyricholmes1827
      @lyricholmes1827 6 місяців тому

      @@jmwilliamsart During the Day of the Black Sun Ozai confirmed Firelord Azulon (his father) asked Ozai to kill Zuko. This was because Ozai asked to ascend the throne before his older brother Iroh after Iroh failed to conquer Ba Sing Se. Ozai tells Zuko he was going to kill him, but Ursa asked Ozai not to. Instead, Ozai and Ursa struck a deal. Ursa would kill Azulon so Zuko could be saved, and she would leave the Fire Nation while Ozai was free to usurp the throne. I do agree Ursa should have done more (and Uncle Iroh too) to help shield Azula from her father. However, I believe the main reason Ursa didn’t take Zuko and Azula with her when she fled was because Ozai wouldn’t allow it. He already admitted to being willing to kill Zuko, and I doubt he’d have a problem killing Azula and Ursa too if he thought it was a necessary sacrifice to take the throne. Ursa most likely was scared of Ozai, and feared if she took her children with her she’d be caught and slaughtered on the run, with Zuko and Azula likely to be caught in the crossfire. That’s my best guess anyway.

    Such a great way to end it off! I’ve seen these episodes so many times already and recently it hit me how sad that scene of Zuko and Aang together ( 36:25 ) facing all the nations after the war ended…because it’s not all the nations there. The airbenders are still gone. Aang is looking out to the crowd and nobody from his own nation or culture is there to celebrate or cheer him on because the war wiped them all out and he is still the last one. That scene always seems sad to look at now just seeing the three nations instead of four.

    "Into the Inferno" is my all-time favorite episode of the entire series. The animation, the fight choreography, the colors, the illustration, the MUSIC! Just top-tier amazeballs.
    The last line of dialogue spoken in the show...is a blind joke.

  • @reedreidread

    Only by aang truly being "unbendable" and staying true to his conviction of not killing anyone was he able to defeat him and take away his bending. Just immaculate stuff right there.
    Also sokka starting the show being prejudiced against benders and finishing the show on a team with, and putting his full trust in, bender. And Toph not considering sokka even part of the team because he couldnt bend back in S2, now shes on a team with 2 non benders. Immaculate stuff right there.

    • @mon_arkYT
      @mon_arkYT  6 місяців тому +1

      As much as I joke about Sokka being useless, he really was one of the MVP’s this season. He took out two firebenders at their peak while on his back, holding Toph with one hand, and his leg broken. Besides Zuko, Sokka probably has the widest arc in terms of becoming a completely different person.

    I love how the past Avatars told Aang to not pussyfoot around, he needs to *do* something, but they never said to kill Ozai. And Aang did have the idea of taking his bending through Gluebending, so he was already super close to the final solution!

  • @Francis...

    Azula is a literal child being 14 years old. Unlike Zuko, who was raised with love and care from Iroh and Ursa, Azula was molded into a tool for war by Ozai. Add to that the abandonment and betrayal of her only two friends. That breakdown was absolutely heartbreaking.

      I like to think some people are born evil, or at least psychopathic because that’s realistic in real life. I think that’s why they showed us when she was a child that portrayed how she was from the start, because in real life psychopaths start by hurting animals and they showed us that with the duck turtle, it’s little hints like that. I like that she is pure evil, they shouldn’t redeem her because that’ll just break the character.

    Now you will have to watch the whole damn thing again for all the hidden lion turtle references! But yes, great rewatch value because everything was set up so carefully; and while there are so many shows that start well, how many can carry it to such a perfect ending. They somehow managed to up the animation another notch, and this is the only episode with music performed by an actual orchestra because the composer, Jeremy Zuckerman insisted.

    After watching again, I think I may get why Aang was willing to risk his life more than necessary if it meant holding to his ideals. For one, I think the message is basically "you don't need to compromise yourself to reach your goals". And for two, I think maybe... that Aang wasn't exactly looking at the situation as an individual hang up (although it was). Like, I think he's looking at it on a cultural level as well. If he, the last remaining airbender, couldn't accomplish his goal without compromising himself and the air nations believe in the sacredness of life, then that's just another part of his culture that died.

    One of the absolute greatest stories ever conceived by american minds. Glad you enjoyed it! Now, my advice for LoK. Go into it with an open mind, and dont expect it to be "atla 2", or you will be disappointed. That being said, it isn't a bad thing! LoK is not as objectively perfect as atla, but it's certainly a worthy addition to the Avatar universe.

Aang went from a naive innocent goofy kid who wanted to avoid responsibilities and avoid conflicts, to a more mature person who was willing to initiate violence when appropriate and stepped up to his role as Avatar. This is the "matured" kid who seeks for wisdom of his past lives not because he genuinely needs an advice - but because he wants to hear a specific thing that would free him of his responsibilities.
