      I sure am enjoying it, my straw target likes to eat my arrows though, not as enjoyable... it feels like the arrows are stuck in a stone

    If I had not seen Armin’s review I might not have believed the overwhelming reviews on the Sarmat website. After receiving a set of 5 hankyus a couple of weeks ago I can only confirm what people said.
    From the first look at their website to communicating about my ever changing customized order, the tracked quick delivery (only 10 days to New Zealand) the tasteful packaging, these amazing bows and bamboo arrows, it was a delightful experience all the way thru.
    It was like ordering from friends, the goods a very good deal for great quality. All items are beautifully crafted and shoot pleasantly and accurate. Total bliss. The Zen in the art of archery supplies!

    Armin your review about this bow made me order one right away. I received mine (71" at 32#) a week ago. What a nice bow! The smouth draw and the fillling are asaume . Even Tenouchi (grip) and Hanare (release) are possible, because of the shape of the grip!
    Thank for the beautiful review for a beautiful and money for value bow!

    I’m glad I got my order in before the surge of new customers. ;). My bow is just waiting for the kyudo style arrows to be finished to go along.

    Yesterday -- I picked up my 71" hankyu and 34" arrows from the post office . . . Sarmat has done a wonderful job. I must admit that I am a neophyte at archery - this is not only the first bow I've owned, it's the first one I ever really held . . . so I have nothing to compare it to. But, so far . . . it is a thing of beauty - especially the arrows with the striking red fletching. Thanks for doing this review - it's the reason why I placed my order.

    Very nice :) Just awesome :) Waiting for one 59" hankyuu 35# @ 28 along with bamboo and standard arrows to arrive this month. Still waiting for one 71" to be made and shipped. Sarmat is really awesome not to mention their customer service! Thank you again for doing the reviews and for sharing :)

    I bought my arrows from Sarmat with my bow and I can't hit a thing with it. Maybe I'm just using it wrong.
    Should I try other arrows?

      Start very short instance to see what is lacking in your form. A Hankyu is a bit different to shoot. Once you get the hang of it, raise distance

    Question about aiming 'cause of that swing on the release the way kyudo archers shoot their arrows. I recently learned that with the thumb draw you're supposed to aim using the index finger on the left side while the arrow is on the right. But of course that's with the bow not reacting/moving (Chinese Archery for example says that the bow hand doesn't react) so I'm wondering if the same principle applies with this type of bow or if you look at the arrow between the limb and the string like with the slavic draw. The yugaeri, "bow-turning", seems to me like a game changer so for my research I wanted to hear what you've got on that.

    • @stokelusspacus644
      @stokelusspacus644 4 роки тому

      I have only been practising Kyudo for 2 years so take this with a grain of salt. :)
      I never heard of the index finger being used to aim in Kyudo.
      Normally in Kyudo you aim via the rattan windings above the grip. Because you have both eyes open while aiming you can see the target overlapping the bow. Where you exactly see the target on the horizontal axis depends a bit on the archer and the Kyudo style. For normal shooting (kinteki, 28m on 36cm target) the target mostly should be something between a half moon (half of the target seen left of the bow, the other on the rattan) or the target completely on the rattan of the bow.
      The height can then be adjusted by going windings up or down the rattan. E.g. you have to go up windings away from the grip (aim lower) when switching to a stronger bow and shooting the same normal 28m distance as there is less arrow drop.
      Happy shooting. :-)

    Hi Armin,
    That looks great fun. Can you practice target shooting with this asymetric bow and then go hunting with a horsebow (both thumb release) or would they be quite different for intuitive shooting?

      @@ArminHirmer Greetings from tomorrow! It does look a more relaxing practice than using your say 45# hunting bow for a meditation. Hunting here in NZ is easy and you get under less the fifteen meters to a pig stalking, same for possums and wild goats. Perhaps I could practice with the Hankyu and not mind about the target (as they 'do') and just tune up on the hunting bow after that. Besides you look like no problem switching bows and still hit target beautifully.
      Thanks for your time, you are such a goldmine for inspiration

      @@ArminHirmer I am not sure this is necessarily true. You didn’t mention the arrow grains, but I had just watched the Tang Chang An video and the arrows appear to be the same, 500 and 620 grains. If that is true, You are shooting at nearly 13 and 16 gpp with a 37 lbf bow. According to my calculations, that puts the Hankyu in a very respectable, middle of the pack position for Kinetic Energy imparted to the arrow per pound of draw weight.

    Despite the fact you can obviously shoot any bow any way you like, isn't that one shot traditionally using a three fingers hold ?

    • @ArminHirmer
      @ArminHirmer  6 років тому +2

      usually Japanese bows are shot with thumb. but in shihanmato they don`t care that much, even pinch draw is fine

    • @MagnusWendt
      @MagnusWendt 6 років тому +2

      dum boy well... it is questionable to call that bow traditional in the first place. It is too short for a full size yumi (daikyu) but to long for a hankyu, but either way... the yumi is shoot with a thumb release, wearing a glove instead of a thumb ring.
