    I have waxed jackets that did not originally come as a waxed jacket. Traditional Carhartt jackets take wax well and they function and look great when waxed. They do require a lot of wax the first time you wax them.

    Great tutorial Troy...just picked up my first waxed jacket as my go to for fall and winter, so definitely going to keep this handy as a guide when it needs a touch up.

    Nice video, I waxed a backpack in the summer and used the sun to even out the wax. That jacket looks great.

    I just purchased a Tom Beckbe Tensaw ES Jacket about a month ago. I won’t use it for hunting or any outdoor activities. I bought it just because I like the looks of the jacket and the styling. But I was curious to see how to re-wax the jacket when the time comes. Thank you for this tutorial. I hope I get a lot of life out of my jacket!

    Wonderful video! I've been watching several about this topic and you seemed to know what you were doing... It gave me the courage to go ahead and wax my newly sewn jeans jacket! It was so much fun and easy to do... While doing it, the process just reminded me when I was younger I used to go cross country skiing and waxing a pair of ski is pretty similar... So, just as for rubbing the ski, I used a natural wine cork to rub the wax on the seams of my jacket... All went well... Just a reminder for people : The can of wax may need to be warmed more than once during the process. Thank you for your video!

    The alternative way ,is wax your warm jacket with the wax melted from the sun and do the job in the garden.
    A warm jacket will aborb the wax like hot toast does to butter .

    I used a wax bar from Varusteleka to wax a Bundeswehr flecktarn parka and a Bundeswehr field shirt.
    Did it the hard way aka rubbing the bar against the fabric. It takes some time but you can easily control the amount of wax you apply. If it starts to flake it means its time to stop.
    I then melt it woth an hair dryer.
    Next time i will deffo melt the wax tho.

    I attempted to wax a twill jacket (wasn’t waxed prior) with a bar. Took much longer then expected lol someone told me to wax how it was shown here, put the article in an old pillowcase or sack and toss in the dryer.

    Does it matter what type or brand of wax you use? Say a jacket or bag etc comes with Martexin wax applied. Could you just use a different brand when rewaxing (assuming the item isn't completely stripped of wax in all areas)?

    I would be interested to know how to prevent the wax from penetrating the inner lining. If the wax is absorbed into the jacket through the heat, why not also into the lining?

    • @mylesstewartirvine2355
      @mylesstewartirvine2355 6 місяців тому

      The wax should be heated in the pan to about 60°C. If it is a lot hotter than that then it can go through into the lining. You can keep an eye on the temp using a candle wax thermometer. You have to be a bit careful with the heat gun if it is on max setting too.

    Hello. Just came across your channel. I mistook this for a conditioning for a full grain leather jacket. I stayed because I’m learning something new. I never realized there was such a thing as a wax or waxed jacket. Waxed boots? Yes. Jackets? Never.
    I have a question. I recently bought a Carthart. This is more of a middle grade spring/fall Jacket. Not as hard and thick as the Carthart’s usually are. But close. It is called waterproofed. I was wondering, how would I know if this is a wax-able jacket? It is not leather, but I have seen people wax canvas and suedes I would love your opinion on this. Cheers

    14:29, Why do folks say "less is more", it is nonsensical. To any rational person the statement, less is more, absolutely does not make sense. It is as though someone made up a ridiculous statement and others without any thoughts of their own think "Oh that sounds cool" then repeat the saying. A better more accurate comment is "less is better", wow that does make sense.
