Very informative video, and great looking brown from that small pool.

      Hey Rich,
Thanks for leaving a comment and watching, I appreciate it. That was definitely a nice little hole. I got one more out of it, which was in previous video prior. However, these guys I didn't include in that video since it was a better stand alone video. Hopefully I can do some more videos like this. Tight lines!

Just started fly fishing and this video really helped me. Thanks!

Glad it helped! I put stuff out like this because I am hoping even if one person gets advice that can improve their technique then it was worth it. Thanks for watching Sam! Good luck with fly fishing. Be patient, I promise it does get easier. My first half dozen trips were fishless. Eventually you figure out how to get a good drift, flies that work, and where to find them. I will say, tight lining with the mono rig was a game changer for me and my catch rate. The same can be said for a couple other guys I got to convert as well.

@@tightliningmd I’m not saying you need to make this or anything but a video about what you’re using and different rigs would help me and probably other a lot.

Thanks Chris! Definitely got dialed in to this spot. I picked up one other fish in that hole, but he was on last film as well, so I didn't want to repeat too much. Appreciate you watching!

Very helpful in reviewing the video. I watched it initially last year when you posted. As with a lot of things when you do things they make more sense. That’s what I’ve experienced over this past year. These types of videos from you and others have helped me along with more time on the streams.Best, Tony

Hey Anthony, thanks for watching it once, let along twice. I would be interested to watch it back again and see anything else I would change or suggest. Always evolving and making tweaks. Glad it helped you in your journey. Tight lines!

Awesome video Mike, great stuff, lol I keep saying to my buddies I wanna try euro but then I never do it 😭😭😂😂😂😂 hahaha. Maybe this fall I can give it a shot. Tight lines, and maybe we can link up sometime in the near future👊🎣💦

      Hey Owen,
Thank you for watching. Euro is fun for sure. All the different types of fishing having their allure. However, when you get dialed in to a style of fishing, it can be tough to switch. So I don't blame you for not having tried it yet. Maybe in fall we will get a chance to link up. I don't know what school is gonna be like and how my schedule will work. All still new territory. Tight lines!

Awesome! If it helped the GOAT, then it must have had something of worth in there. Appreciate you watching. When you are back, and fishing regularly in these parts we will link up and I will teach you. Then we will send our success to Columbia and get sponsored :)

Is there a certain water velocity where you would switch away from tight lining and add an indicator? For example, one of the tail waters near me has a real flat gradient, and while there are some riffles, the fish seem to hold in the real deep slow lateral scour pools. I have trouble keeping the nymphs suspended while tight lining (even while switching to beadless nymphs). When I throw an indicator onto my euro tippet (usually a Dorsey yarn indicator below my sighter), I’m able to connect with these fish. Thanks!

      Jared,
That is a great point/question. I don't use the tight line set up as much in deep holes/glassy pools. I have difficulty as well. I think the way you described the set up would be as ideal as you can make it, without re-rigging. Sometimes I will go dry dropper though. So like a hopper, and a beaded nymph on the mono rig. That typically helps me to have a shot in the areas like that. I prefer fishing my set up in riffles/runs. I sometimes will quickly move past the flat water and keep hunting for more prime lies that suit my set up.

@@tightliningmd Thanks! Sounds like the stream I mentioned is certainly better suited for a 9' 5wt fly rod and dry dropper setups than it is for tight lining . I'm pretty new to fly fishing, but it seems to me that the high gradient streams with defined riffles and pools (say 1.5-4% gradient) are better suited for tight lining, while the lower gradient streams with backwater pools, log jams, and shallow riffles (typically 0.25-1.5%) are better suited for a more traditional setup. In my day job I'm an environmental engineer that specializes in stream restoration, so I always have to bring it back to the science to keep it interesting!

@@jaredmummert2813 I also like throwing streamers in some of those lower gradient streams too. Although I have no idea what qualifies at 1.5-4%, I can generally tell if a stream is steep and seems to cut deep into the gorge. That definitely gives you a nice advantage knowing all those streams, their gradient % and exploring while getting paid :)
