  • It's Over Goodbye was written by the lead singer with The Miami Showband, Fran O'Toole, and the band's sax player and vocalist Des Lee. Ironically this was Fran's last TV appearance before he was murdered on July 31st, 1975 along with the band's lead guitarist, Tony Geraghty and their trumpet player, Brian McCoy, in what has become known as The Miami Showband Massacre.

I just discovered the Miami Showband from watching the Netflix documentary. Wow this song is beautiful. Very soulful.
So sad what happened to these guys. Such talented musicians.

Same, incredible documentary! It could have been a series. What a tragic story. These guys had every bit of talent the Beatles did, as many bands did back then just didn't have the management. Like in a world where the Beatles never existed, these guys could have easily been just as world famous. The remaining members seem like just good hearted dudes as well. Glad to see at the end our boy Stephen Travers (the bass player) still plays. I can't imagine getting to do the only thing you've ever wanted to do, only for it all to dissolve due to political conflict.
One thing that's stuck with me about that documentary was the line about Fran being "Ireland's greatest ever soul singer", and well I don't know anything about Irish soul music, this guys voice holds up with the best of them anywhere, anytime.
RIP Fran O'Toole & Tony Geraghty

This is arguably the best song from the miami showband, how the owners of the song rights don't have this remastered and re released I'll never understand.
They were at their absolute height here when the tragedy happened.
    RIP Fran.

Poignant lyrics to this song, little did anyone know what lay around the corner. All the murders of the troubles were horrific, but the case of the Miami is possibly one of the most gut wrenching of them all. The fact that some jealous loyalist bastard with a gun could do what he did with a gun to this amazingly talented man just typified the poisonous mindset of the thugs in the thick of the conflict at the time, regardless of their creed or cause or if they were working for the crown, which in this case they were

I can’t believe it’s nearly 46 years ago. I remember seeing the atrocity on the news. 10 days later I was in Kilkenny to see my relatives and my cousin who was so upset. I saw this on RTE while I was there. He had such a young family too. May he forever RIP and be fondly remembered by all. That summer I saw Tina and the Nevada in Callan; sadly that atrocity was the last straw for the Showbands.

It is unusual the effect it has had on me and on many who viewed Strange I know. It was so unbelievably gruesome. Fran so so lovely, as they all were. I then learned that he was from Co.Wicklow and I actually worked there. I would just to think of them , Fran and his mates along with Princess Diana up in heaven. They brought people happiness , were so beautiful and died so tragically young. They were also murdered by M15. I will just say a pray for them all.

Shocked.....that this unbelievable tragedy didn't register as it should have with me!!! Why? Because as a 15 year old at the time and living in Belfast after --- the burning out of people in Bombay St., the Falls Road Curfew, Kelly's Bar being blown up, Internment, Fr. Mullan and Fr. Fitzpatrick being shot dead, Bloody Sunday, Ballymurphy's 'No-Go' area, raids, riots, sectarian killings, internal power struggles between paramilitaries and incredible daily atrocities happening the Miami Showband tragedy should have been IT. It could have been the event that galvanized people to stop the madness.......but it didn't -- and the 'Troubles' went on and on and on for years and years and years and I feel that people became numb to the killings, bombings, and future events that overshadowed what happened before (Political Status, Hunger Strike, Bobby Sands, Gibraltar, Loughgall, Omagh, etc., etc., etc.,) . Shocking that this was premeditated and planned by the legal Police Forces who were tasked with providing protection for all. Shocked personally that I did not give it the reverence it deserved at the time and shocked that it provokes so many deep and sad memories of my childhood. RIP Fran, Tony and Brian and during this week of remembrance for John Hume and his immense contribution towards peace and equality for all of Ireland I humbly pray for the Miami Showband and my own personal oversight of a fantastic group who brought much happiness and joy to lots of people during a horrific time in Ireland's history.
