Why Communist Food Sucks
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 лют 2025
- Communist food is often perceived as bland due to the historical context of resource scarcity and centralized control over food production and distribution in communist countries. During the 20th century, many communist states, such as the Soviet Union and Maoist China, faced significant economic challenges, including chronic shortages of spices, fresh produce, and quality ingredients. The emphasis on equal distribution often led to the production of simple, standardized meals designed to be cost-effective and easy to produce on a large scale. Additionally, the suppression of private enterprise stifled culinary innovation and diversity, resulting in a limited variety of flavors and culinary techniques being widely available to the population. Consequently, the food in these regions became associated with being monotonous and lacking in flavor.

There is no such thing as "Communist food", just as little as there is something called "Capitalist food". So this is so dumb right from the start.
Are you swedish
😛🥾
"Communist food sucks" "It's incredible" "This is tasty" You can't have it both ways.
I liked that you got Kasia to make one of these kinds of meals to see what it was like!
To be like in the 70 and 80 Poland there should be twice the amount of petato, the cutlet should be smashed with a hummer to be half of this thickness (in some places should be see through), and the size should be also 30-50% less, also since getting oil was not so easy it should be used for at least a week, so cook it at a week old many times used oil
This is a bit of a misconception. Plenty of countries in the east kept their traditional dishes, and plenty of countries in the west lost theirs. Many of the UK's traditional dishes were wiped out by war and postwar rationing too
As someone who witnessed it this isn’t true at all. Life in the west was infinitely better than in the Soviet Union. Not even remotely close. In fact, Estonian cuisine and culture was in many ways better preserved in the western diaspora. This video is very accurate.
Yeah just look at east German Jagerscnizel.. nothing changed there. It was just revolutionized!
I remember visiting family in the east, behind the curtain.
We had to exchange money for these trips (so these countries did get some foreign exchange) and I took my monthly allowance.
When we visited the local ice-cream shop on a trip, I was so surprised by the low prices and even more so, when I realized that I could have bought almost everything they had in stock, with just my pocket money.
Oh wow!
There are a lot Russians here in San Francisco and there were some mid to small size stores with Russian focused foods. These stores had a lot of cured meats and cold cuts and sausages. One I saw in refrigerated case was labeled 'Soviet Sausage' Looked very fatty. I passed on that but others were very tasty. They also sold Estonian beer in several varieties all of which were really good but a lot of the store was empty. They had two bottles of each beer the rest was empty space. I found the emptiness of the store kinda ironic.
As i know, there was a story about ussr officials visiting the USA. It was when fast food took off. And soviets just make an adaptation of hamburger, by removing bread and added a mashed potato. But soviet cutlet wasnt like the hamburger one. Half of it is bread. Yeah meat mixed with bread. Simple and economical.
That meal looks delicious! After my next trip to the grocery store, I am going to recreate it.
To be like in the 70 and 80 Poland there should be twice the amount of petato, the cutlet should be smashed with a hummer to be half of this thickness, and the size should be also 30-50% less
The cutlets were in those better times. The worse ones had mortadella breaded in breadcrumbs. Except that this mordala was not very similar to the Italian one... Baloney seems to be something similar.
frankly breaded meat (schnitzel) and breaded fried cheese are the best foods till now. the cheese stays together until you cut it and its freaking amaziing
A joke goes’ a foreigner was visiting a communist country, walked into a food store, asked the cashier where the meat was. The cashier said he was in the wrong store. His was the store that was entirely out of fish. The store that was out of meat was across the street.😂😂😂😂
Ciemnota łyknie Wszystko.
Looking at politics through the lens of food really shows the problems with communism, doesn't it? Think with your stomach! ;-)
Yeah?I never ate better than in Vietnam.
That does look yummy, I'd give it a try. Great video Ryan
Capitalist food isn't great: McDonald's and in the Philippines they cook up food from waste
Have you tried going to a real country instead?
Exactly. Try going to a real country that doesn't do that.
ITS SOCASH! I RECOGNIZED YOUR DULCET TONES RYAN!!!!
Sacrifices must be made for Communism to succeed.
"EAT ZE BUGS !"
Waiting in lines for hours with unfriendly service and limited choice sounds like post brexit uk.
Except you can get anything you think of delivered to your door in a day.
nah it wasn't bad. food was actually quite good, especially when you consider thatj the availability of extra spices and other ingredients was low. And look at the capitalist British cuisine, it's even worse than the PRL's one
No no…. Nonsense.
what food?
India 200bc to now
mmm ... fried wurst
Oh my science!! I heckin love wholesome chungus socialist starvation food xisters!!
you don't even know who or what you're parodying anymore
London food suck.
What are you on about? Fish and chips, shepherds pie, baked beans and bacon, Sunday roast. Those are all some of my favorites
Bold of you to assume communists had food to begin with.
