    Love those swing doors, all the silos I’ve ever worked in all had removable doors, always looking for somewhere to store them as we dropped the silos, and always having to remember to replace them as we lowered the silos.

      Yes, they are great! There was no question about getting them when we were choosing!

    It takes so long to fill the mixer,bunkers are about 1/4 the time. In the winter when its -30 for weeks, esp in corn sileage the silo gets smaller and smaller till the unloader gets pinched and wont turn. Then you dig out the pick axe and iron bars and spend a half day cleaning the walls. Oh what memories! City folk have no idea how much fun farming is. Then whrn the silo is full, you fed out 6 ft from the top and the big motor smokes. Winch the behemoth down the chute and bring up the new one. Oh yes, i luv silos!

      Nothing better than feed at the push of a button. No need to go outside and move tires or plow away snow drift from a bunk face when it’s -30 outside. Tower silos are the way to go.

    Put a clothes pin on the cable right by the winch. When the clothes pin moves up 2 1/2' time to drop the chut to the next door and move the clothes pin.

    Damn that left me out of breath just watching how much work that is to change the doors

    • @HollcanaFarm
      @HollcanaFarm  4 місяці тому +1

      Yes, it was worse than normal because he was seeing how long he could leave it before changing doors. He would rather do this then clean off and cut plastic off a bunker pile. 😊

      A farm this size probably will only have to climb the silo once every two- three weeks. Other than that it’s a push of a button and bam you have feed. Not hard at all.

    My question. Where is the power cord attached to? Does it raise as you raise the unloader to fill it. All my silos growing up. We pulled the cord thru the shute.

    • @HollcanaFarm
      @HollcanaFarm  4 місяці тому +1

      The power comes from the top of the silo and the cord is gathered by the unloader as it gets wound up. It's attached by rings to one of the cables that raises and lowers the silo unloader. My son never worked with a silo before so he doesn't realize how much of an improvement this is😁

    • @chadpaider1009
      @chadpaider1009 4 місяці тому +2

      @@HollcanaFarm thank you. That is a big improvement instead of lugging the cord up to the top of the silo when filled. From the bottom.

    • @HollcanaFarm
      @HollcanaFarm  2 місяці тому

      Good question! The cord is attached at the top of the silo and to the top of the silo unloader and the cord feeds through rings so it folds as you lift the loader up to fill. The power cord goes down one of the cables that hold the unloader and every 3-4ft there is a clamp on the power cord hooked around the cable. So it gathers on the frame of the silo unloader as it goes up so we never have to do anything with the cord. Yay!😊

      The whole machine would be worn out before that would need to be done but these machines are not flipable. 😊
