- Over the years, we've acquired quite a few video tapes from sources close to the show. Before the DVD came out, we digitized these tapes in order to preserve Viper's legacy.
Even though it was titled 'Viper "Pilot" Final Dub' and dated 10.28.93, we realized after the fact that the sound was a little different than what aired, specifically during the final segment. This video has a slightly different tuned version of Eddie Jobson's Viper theme music play as Joe approached the RT/10 as it morphs into the Defender. Other than a couple of missing sound effects, the rest of this 'Final Dub' cut remain the same as NBC originally aired.
At one point in time, we had this on Project VIPER. Here is that alternate-music segment in all of it's glory. (Sorry about the TV whining audio throughout the clip, comes with the territory of ripping old tapes...)
That is some pretty good Tranformation CGI for being such an old show. Too bad later seasons got rid of that effect for something cheaper.
Yeah, that hex transformation sequence cost around 50K each time they did it in the first season. There was no way the showrunners were gonna pay that for the syndicated seasons.

When I watched this episode on TV, it cuts from 1:33 to 2:03. And I still don't understand why ?

Well, it is a car with special abilities. That is a bit too generic to be called a rip-off. There is no AI, the car transforms optically, the show is taking place in the future, and Viper is actual law enforcement (including emergency vehicle lighting). So, no, not a rip-off.
