I’ve cruised to Bermuda many, many times. This is why you stay within sight of the ship on the last day. Also, there is plenty of shopping at Dockyard so it’s not necessary to go anywhere else to shop if that’s what they were doing.
Never missed my ship. Have little sympathy for those who do. They're on their own. They have to make arrangements to meet the ship at the next stop. At their own cost. Not true. The ship will WAIT if you have an excursion booked through them. They will not sail unless the excursion will be extremely late. I think Tom may have seen videos where the ship may have not been far from the dock so it was able to return but when the ship is a distance from the dock, away she goes and your on your own.
That is why I only do shore trips that are booked through the cruise line. If you are late back from your shore trip (not the same as shopping), they wait for you.

Rather than standing there with their faces hanging out, that couple should have been trying to get a helicopter to fly them to the ship, or get a hotel room, or book a flight to the next port or home.
If you take a ship sponsored excursion, they will always wait on you because you're not the only person late and it usually isn't a passenger's fault. I also heard about a couple who rented some ski-doos (sea-doo?) where the operator takes you out to a location and you launch from there. Well, the operator got upset over something they did and abandoned them. Trying to get back to port, ran out of gas and another boat picked them up. They were able to reach the Cruise ship and it actually stopped long enough to pick up the guest from this good Samaritan's boat. How, who, and how long is at the captain's discretion and after hearing from the 3rd party, he opted to wait for them. I'm sure this has been told and retold, so I have no proof if any of it is true. But if it is, they were damn lucky.
@@eileenmcdonald1599 I follow 3 different cruise channels and they have all said it. If the shipping line contracts with a local tour provider, I would assume that neither party would want to deal with the fall out for breach of contract. If the passengers are on a bus or boat, there is nothing they can do to resolve it. The cruise line is not going to punish the passengers and leave them. Talk about destroying your reputation. But if the passengers go off on their own and hook up with a company has no agreement with, then it's at the captain's discretion.
I had a few cruise ship holidays. I have never missed the departure. How can you miss the departure? The departure time is clearly written on your reservation and many other places. You have couple of HOURS to come back to ship. Only the stupid , selfish and negligent people miss the departure.
The boy saying "you missed the boat - ha ha next time be more careful" should think for a minute - what if that was YOU! I hope the parents spoke to him. Just my humble opinion
Why don't these cruise ship companies make a fine of $500 if you are late or arrive back after the prescribed time, either pay the fine and get back on board or refuse to pay your cruise ends there and then you do not get back on board.
$500 won't cover the cost of delaying a departure. And there's no reason for it. And you delay 4-6 thousand other passengers because 1 or more dum-dums can't get their asses back to ship on time. The cruise line does not refund your ticket nor do they pay to transport you home or to the next port of call. And the lobster that the late idiots don't eat ends up in the crew's seafood chowder. That said, I like the idea of a fine (maybe $100/person) if you miss the ship at the last port of call because someone has to go in and pack up your nasty dirty clothes and all your sh*t in order to get it off the ship.
@@HAL_NINER_TRIPLE_ZERO The big problem is a lot of these people simply don't give a fuck who they inconvenience, by having a fine which is applied even if you are 1 minute late after the prescribed time to be back on board it might act to give them some incentive to be back when they should if the fine is $500 per head that would get results and they wouldn't likely want to do it again.
You think $500 even comes close to the port fees incurred by these ships for waiting? How about the customer spend $15 on a cheap watch and get back on the ship ON TIME like the other 4000 passengers???
In Ushuaia Argentina (the 'end of the world') we were wondering why the ship's horn was blaring and people were waving, and where was everyone else? My watch battery died sometime within the hour before we were to be back on board. Things can happen. We got a good talking to from the Celebrity captain but they waited ten minutes thank god. Now we bring two watches.
10 minutes isnt too bad, people are up up to an hour or more. Still not a ligitimate excuse. The only real excuses are medical emergencies, because the local authorities have these funny little things called RADIOS that allow them to call the ship and let them know!!!!!

@@tonyp011....That's why you leave early so you can get there on time even if problems come up
@@jamykovolenus8833 And this is why I'm at the airport 4 hours before takeoff for a domestic flight. Yeah, the airport's getting a ton of my hard earned cash, but I'm not gonna be late when I'm randomly selected.
Only themselves to blame . Ships have limited times in mornings as other ships are waiting to take over. Everyone is told the departure times so no excuses .
I went Jet Skiing in August there, very nice and wild ride. I remember we went to the tip of the triangle and got to see the ship wrecks and feed the fishes. We also went to the beach with "pink" sand. It was cool. Wish the shops and resturants didnt close so damn early. Bermuda know how to shut it down on a work week. lol
Funny story. We were on Symphony of the Seas and a guy got left at the pier. A few minutes later a boat pulled up beside the ship( Symphony is a smaller ship) and the driver yelled up where's next port, to the passengers watching We yelled back down, think it was St Lucia. Driver waved, said ok and I'll get him there!! He took off flying!! The guy left behind was in the boat🤣!! That was in 2005 and my son still talks about it. 😂
That is hilarious!
Hey Locknath...people KNOW the departure times. If they miss it, too bad
Rob Tro is your surname Tro? Spelt Tro and not Trow?
The little kid saying bye sounds like the little boy saying bye to the spaceship at the end of 'close encounters'.
Bye, bye Billy 😂😂😂😂
😎😎😎 I have been on several cruises, and you learn HOW to cruise! In ports, we eat an early breakfast. We get off the ship when they let us off, we shop and be back in time for lunch 🍱 then we chill take a 😴 nap, shower, and get ready to 🎉 enjoy 😊 evening activities! 🤗 Cruising is a vibe, and if you do it right…you’ll hate to leave!!! 🥰. Missing a ship is stressful. Who goes on a cruise to be stressed? So, be RESPONSIBLE, and RESPECTFUL, and have a great get away! 😎
Beautifully said Joe.
The water is gorgeous. Hope you had a beautiful cruise.
Bermuda is expensive, perfect to cruise to! Spent 3 days docked. The water is beautiful!
@@jamykovolenus8833 Before I was born, my parents considered moving to Bermuda. They decided they didn't want to give up American passport.
I didn't know Bermuda is expensive. Thanks.
Many years ago, we took plane to nassau bahamas and another time to negril Jamaica. I hope to see a few other countries.
There's never an excuse to be unnecessarily entitled.
When I worked at the docks for Viking Line (Sweden-Finland), we had a passenger who got lost onboard a 6hr daycruise ship and did'nt get of in time, so he were left onboard untill the return the next day. I think he even got a free cabin for the night 😄🤣
I’ve cruised to Bermuda many, many times. This is why you stay within sight of the ship on the last day. Also, there is plenty of shopping at Dockyard so it’s not necessary to go anywhere else to shop if that’s what they were doing.
Yup
It's always best to be onboard earlier than advised
More food choices at the buffet without them!
Time to go to the airport and fly home if they don’t miss the flight too ✈️ what a waste of a vacation.
They probably did miss their flight!
They just have to fly to the next port the cruise is scheduled to visit and wait there to get back on board.
@@ats-3693 this was the only destination. Three days in Bermuda, then back to the USA. They had to fly home, or swim!

No ones fault but You're own !!!
When you were young your Mom probably told you that you were special. Your Mom is not the Captain. Be early or stay home!!!!!!!!!
They did not get on the ship. There was only one stop, so I assume they had to fly back to the USA.
That maybe tough--without a Passport
Some people are too cool 😎 to follow the rules!
I'm too afraid to miss out my drink package to pier run. 😁 I'm always early.
Me too! Very laid back.
Never missed my ship. Have little sympathy for those who do. I still always get a little disgusted watching how many other passengers seem to take delight in this misfortune though, and bark from their balconies at people who's vacations have just been destroyed. Reminds me of one of the few down sides of cruising - the other idiots on board.
Generally, with the time they leave the port clearly stated everywhere, it seems that the people who miss the ship are the idiots.
I love it!! Entitled people deserve it. No way should the cruise keep 3000 people waiting for two or three that costs money, not to mention unpredictable weather patterns at sea.
I’d have my G & T and watch free entertainment. 🤣🥃
@@jamykovolenus8833 Generally, it would seem that way. But by "Generally" I assume you agree it's not always an absolute, just like entitlement isn't . Irregardless of that, I was mostly taking issue with the behaviour of other passengers that was pretty well encapsulated by the last commenter gushing about how much they "love it" and see misery as some sort of bonus onboard entertainment. At that point what type of person is worse - the one scrambling for the dock or the one getting their rocks off on it?
Agreed
@@adamd3543 agreed.
did they allow the couple on or did they have to meet it at its next port of call assuming it was going to another port?
They're on their own. They have to make arrangements to meet the ship at the next stop. At their own cost. An expensive lesson that has happened too many times to too many people for this to still be a thing. The ship WILL wait IF the passenger booked the excursion through the cruise line. If not they're on their own...
There as a 30 minutes warning, after the departtime. So it is 35 minutes
Sucks for them. Grown adults should know better
Time on board means exactly that. Next time, they will be on time. If you are going to be stupid, you better have a lot of money to waste!

If that's Bermuda I hope that couple had cash. It's a $100 one hour cab ride to the airport.
Bermuda cruise leaving bermuda means next port of call is dembarkation. Half there vacation shot all for 20 minutes.
Bet you learn to tell time next cruise!
"I'm sorry, ma'am. You were told to be back at 4:30, we waiting for an hour and you were still late."
"What do you mean late?! I'm an American, dammit!"
Right?
In the Navy you got thrown in the brig for missing ship's movement. It didn't happen often.
How could that possibly happen? One would think that a certain amount of discipline would be learned in the Navy, right?
@@jamykovolenus8833 one would think so, but just like in civilian life there are always a few who think that rules do not apply to them. Hence, the brig (jail).

@@suzannepatterson307 great idea but don't wait even a minute.
I wonder what people will do next when they miss boarding on time?
Yes!
They had plenty of time NOT to miss the ship. Bonehead play on the passengers part. Get a room an contact the line on where they can meet the ship. Otherwise get a plane for home.
Yup!
Since this was a cruise from the U.S. the next destination was home. No other ports other than Bermuda. 1 1/2 days there, 1 1/2 days back.
@@sarge6870 To bad. Why should the couple get special treatment that will cost a LOT of money while the vast majority of the passengers got back in plenty of time. No sympathy. We have cruised to more than 75 ports around the world, seen everything we wanted to see and made it back on time! We have witnessed numerous people pay a water taxi or some other smaller boat to bring them out to the ship and board while we are underway. Yeah, it cost them, but that's a penalty they earned by whatever they did that caused them to "miss the boat" !!
Someone missed the boat....hahahaha. Kid is funny!!
Thanks!
Of course the title is incorrect. This most likely happen over an hour of the required onboard time. On each of my cruises the required onboard time is posted as you exit the ship.
People never read signs.
The "5 minutes in" refers to the time on the video when the couple shows up and starts running, not to the time after scheduled departure.
5 minutes into the video
ALL THOSE PPL ON THE SHIP, AND THESE 2 WERE THE ONLY ONES!!!!
That's 6 minutes I will never get back
I understand that if the ship is Gone.. you are screwed. But I see videos where they have pulled back to the dock and allowed to board.. Do they get charged any fee for holding up 1000s of people and having the workers on the dock do extra work . Because these people can't tell time ?
I think that they charge you to clean out your cabin, gather your belongings, and store them in a place when we got back. So yeah, a lot of $ was spent on their careless shopping trip. You can see the bag they are carrying. Hope they had their passports in that bag!!!!
@@jamykovolenus8833 .. But what about the ones that they pull back into the dock to pick up ? The workers on the dock, the gas to pull back in. The time the engines were running. Waiting for them ? I seen one U-Tupe video where the same couple was late 3 of the 4 first ports.. and the cruise line put them on restrictions from leaving the ship for the remainder of the cruise..
@@thomasmertz4435 they do that when u have paid for an excursion and you were late. The boat must let u back on if u book through them only
If you are on time, you are late. No symp for those disrespectful of crew, passengers, and time.
Those lower balconies fully visible from above….no thanks.
Right?
Are they the Rossi Family ??
Understand people frustration with people missing the ship, but have some compassion, doubt they did it on purpose to delay departure.
I don’t get why people who are late think the cruise ship should wait on them. Like really?
"The entitlement is strong with this couple."
They probably support Brandon to boot.
You'd think that after being in port more than 1 day. People would get back to the ship on-time.
Pmsl...I can imagine.."yh carry on shoppin honey..the ship won't go without us..or Ile sue them"..😂😂😂😂..well that's what u get you big headed pompous wankers😀😀😀
What was all that about?
Were they passengers or just spectators ?
They WERE passengers. Now they are soon to be flight passengers!
Rather than standing there with their faces hanging out, that couple should have been trying to get a helicopter to fly them to the ship, or get a hotel room, or book a flight to the next port or home.
As soon as the ramp is in that thing is sailing.
You are told what time to be back. If you are late you are left. No matter who sponsors it. Schedules are schedules
It's simple it's the departure time is 4pm u be back by 240-250pm to give yourself plenty of time!!!! To me it's no excuse 🤷🏽♀️
The boy saying "you missed the boat - ha ha next time be more careful" should think for a minute - what if that was YOU! I hope the parents spoke to him. Just my humble opinion

Or maybe he has parents that teach him to be on time and take responsibility…

@theworldofcruiseships, this is my video, you can repost if you wish!
Maybe the ship should hand out cheap watches set to the right time on disembarking.
We waited a long time for these people. Don't go far when it is the day to leave!
10 minutes isnt too bad, people are up up to an hour or more. Still not a ligitimate excuse. The only real excuses are medical emergencies, because the local authorities have these funny little things called RADIOS that allow them to call the ship and let them know!!!!!
I just had a " I can't believe I'm watching this" moment!! Stupid!!
