Not to mention the hundreds of new free and commercial C64 games available on itch.io or direct through publishers like Protovision, Bitmapsoft, Pond, RGCD etc. Every week there will be several new game releases, the majority of which will be free and of high quality.
And it's nice to know that the C64 demo scene is alive and very well even today! What they are able to accomplish on these old systems is really impressive.
I like your ideas for the channel, Robin. More videos from you is always good - I think the more off-the-cuff approach really suits you too - this is why I enjoy growing up 80s so much. Also, you often stop yourself from carrying on about what you seem to think is something mundane but I always want to hear more - maybe this channel is well suited to some ramblings like that. Unplugged music doesn't require electricity, should be a bit hard to apply to computers. But not impossible! Therer are water computers using valves instead of transistors.
I thought of this one too - a good play on the 8-bit theme (even though a nybble is 4 bits, it still works). I'd probably use 'nibbles' though even though that's not technically correct - a casual viewer looking for your channel probably wouldn't know the 'right' spelling. Also, I thought about it some more after my '8-bit Bits' suggestion yesterday - normally, second or third channels have a name more directly related to the main channel name - i.e. 'LGR Blerbs' or 'LGR Foods' for LGR. '8BST' doesn't roll off the tongue and your channel might not be large enough yet for people to associate initials with the channel, but something like '8BST Bits' or '8BST Odds and Ends' would help tie it to the main channel a little better. That being said, it doesn't matter what you call it, I'll still be watching.
Below the Root is a fabulous game but its also a book trilogy. Master of Magic saved me once I dont condone plajorisim but back in middle school in the 80's I was supposed to write a story and couldn't come up with anything and I remembered the intro to the game. I was able to get it done in class and got a B+ for misspellings but my teacher wasent the wiser.
Until now everything you've put on your channels was great to see. So if you're trying other video formats, I have no doubt they will be interesting as well.
I too download from game base or torrent sites. If I really like a newish game (like Sam’s Journey for example) I always wherever possible go and buy the game from the developer. Keep them developing for our retro machines!
Thanks Robin! But BBS Clients to download games/to find new games that are not released in the scene (cracked, but holded back for one year) would be more helpful than that.
On the topic of transferring images to a real C64, I'd love it if you'd do a video about the various SD card readers and their pros and cons of each. I want to get one but don't know which one would be most versatile, most compatible with my software for making backups, best value for the money, etc. Also, if you could talk about backup software and which would be best for making .d64 images of disks that have intentional T&S errors for copy protection or whatever. Most of my backups are on floppies but I really want to make images.
Stay yourself and don‘t copy LGR. I like your channels much more anyways. You don’t have to excuse or explain why you have a second channel. Thanks for the vid. Very informative. Oh, and you forgot to mention c64.com. They also have tons of games.
I gather that keeping the main channel "clean" has algorithm benefits: a single topic high production value channel gets better back catalog promotion, and all the new fans can follow you to the secondary misc channel. Kind of a shame that the algo can't be smarter about a channel with more variety. I'd love to just have my own place to put stuff without thinking about it as a show with a fixed demographic, but erratic frequency, length, topic, and quality would bury whatever I post. *shrug* The ironic result is I tend to like people's rambly bloggy secondary channels as much or more than their primary channels. :D
+1, I would only add that you can download nibconv from c64preservation.com/files/nibtools to convert the .nbz or .nib to .g64 or .d64. nibconv .nbz .g64 for example. Most copy protected games need to be in .g64 format.
I was just looking at your old webpage (looks like you still are maintaining it). Are you still teaching programming to kids from the home school group? I think a little video about that would fit well on your second channel here...I know I would be interested in seeing it and I bet others would also enjoy a short story about that....
Yes please, more like this would be great. "8-bit Nibbles" or "8-bit Ad-lib," "8-bit Unplugged", or perhaps "8-Bit Raw". I have others.. not that they are any good. :)
How about Assembly64? The software is damn near impossible to use, but if you want one way to scrape the world all at once, that's a way to do it. (Of course,. it's indiscriminate, so the ethical/unethical line is guaranteed to be technically crossed.)
It would be great to get more content. Anything on the C64 is always interesting. You could rename this second channel to 8-bit Side Show :-)

If you have an Ultimate II+ which is a cart that emulates the 1541, you can set it up as a drive 9 and copy the digital version to a real 1541 floppy setup as drive 8. Note that if the original has complicated copy protection, this may be difficult. In that case you may need to use Maverick and it’s catalog of Parms for game backups

You can download the 4 DVD set of Gamebase64 v16 directly as well. I wish I would remember where I got mine from...

Always look forward to videos on your main channel as you can tell a lot of time is put into them, but would love some more frequent impromptu videos here too. You are one of my favourite creators, just keep 'em coming.
8-Bit Quirks would be a fitting name.
