Decks can typically be 5 to 35 ft up in the air, for that reason, handrails are paramout to the safety of your deck and you will want to make sure your handrail posts and handrails are as strong as possible. Let me show you how I built mine and made them extremely robust!

I am Tristan, I am building a 400 SF cabin at the back of my house. I plan on doing it all by myself. I plan on sharing this journey here on UA-cam where I will show you every step of the way, all the struggles I run into and everything I will learn from this experience. I will then rent the cabin as a short term rental in hope of covering most, if not, all my house mortgage (House Hacking). Follow me here as this will absolutely be one of a kind journey.

Looks great Tristin.
Thanks!
Really appreciate the hard work 🎉
Thank you so much 😀
An impressive build. I’d suggest investing in some quick action clamps and to make a couple of saw horses. You’d find cutting a hell of a lot easier and much, much safer.😊
👍
Like when you build whit love and passion! Stunning job!
Thank you so much!
Awesome as usual,i absolutely love those simpson T's,,,perfect timing for this video as we are pouring footings for our deck today and I am stealing your black bolster and black T's idea lol ,thank you for posting these vids
Glad to hear that 😀
Definitely coming into your own as a DIY’er. Deck looks great
Thanks !
As usual , another perfect solid work you’ve done……give yourself a Pat in the back…😊
Thanks Dennis !
I built a deck using the same baulesters, something to be aware of, is that once the wood dried out, the balusters loosened up and now mine rattle when I use the steps. If you look at the caps closely, you can see they have a bit of taper to them. If you ever have to rework that at anytime maybe consider some adhesive sealant on the caps to act as filler when they eventually loosen.
Cabin looks really good, the timber brackets really add to the look too! Looking forward to the next episode!
Thanks chris, that’s a good point! I’ll pay attention to how things change as the wood dries.
Yes I love the bracket look too, very happy with them.
What kind of baulesters are these?
Lookin good monsieur! Keep pluggin!
Thanks !
Очень интересно и круто!!Есть схожие моменты со строительством в нашей стране(Россия), но многие решения конечно более продвинуты!Удачи!
Thanks !
Tres beau projet slt du Quebec
Merci !
Excellant video and craftsmanship. Can you share the end price of you cabin please? lastly did you design this home yourself or have a architect.?
Jim, have you gotten the plans? This will had you to the emailing list where I send a monthly newsletter with my budget.
I did the plans myself .
I know you’re a structural engineer by day, but I swear you should become a contractor. With the level of professionalism and detail you put into each aspect of this build, I’d love to hire you to build this same footprint for me one day! Thanks for taking us along for the ride with you.
Thanks a lot John, unfortunately I would probably never make for a good contractor because I would probably have to charge twice as much as every other contractor for using more materials and taking longer. Like everything, you typically get what you pay for.
Where can we find that hand rail kit? Thanks!
Got everything from TheDeckBarn.com
