John P, discussing how to fight the 'surge' in Rolex thefts: "I actually have an Omega on (my wrist today)"
Nailed it, John
I have worn my Rolex watches since 1985 without any problems. That being said, I do own several Seikos and Casios and worn them depending on occasions.
The best solution is to hire Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson like John P. has done. Nobody messes with John when he is wearing his pearl handled jewelry on each hip.
Had my oyster bracelet brushed to minimize any bling. Love it so much better
Which model?
@@JohnPWatches DJ palm. Looks way more casual which the palm tree motif embodies for me. Chill. Casual. And very few people even recognize it as a DJ now.
Couldn’t be happier.
Nice. Less scratches as well.
@@mt24Carson very true.
@@Treetopflyer777domed bezel? I feel like domed bezel + oyster is the way to go with the palm dial. Usually I prefer fluted + jubilée but it’s a bit much for that model
Upside to living in a small city, I never worry about my watch, down side is I have to drive 5 hours one way to my closest AD, I do a lot of FaceTime and shipping.
I was thinking the exact same thing! I’m in the surburbs in a small city & I almost NEVER see anyone with a nice watch on. Not exactly a target-rich environment for criminals. If my friends & coworkers knew how much I spent on my BB58 they’d think I was crazy! They actually may be right…
@@chriscon8463 my coworkers would also think I am crazy, but as long as I am happy who cares, my newest is the new BB41 burgundy on 5 link
Spot-on advice about bracelet swapping though. Ceramic (shiny) bezels, polished center links, and jubilee bracelets are what the scouts are looking out for. In general I'd hide or remove my watch before interacting with service employees you have to come into close contact with, like metal detector guys, door rent-a-cops at malls and banks, and register clerks at stores. Many of the street grabs are preplanned and rent-a-cops get to eyeball a bunch of well-to-do people up close on a daily basis to spot potential marks and tip off their partners.
Live in NYC and been wearing Rolex in the 5 burros for the last 20 years in the worst of Neighborhoods and never had a issue. I won't worry about something that might never happen. That's no way to live I mean who the fk needs that unwanted stress. If your really going to worry about getting jacked every time you leave the house. You shouldn't own a luxury watch it's that simple
Same here (been wearing for the last 3/4 years) and never had an issue. Then again I dont hope to jinx ourselves but I also dont like to bring attention to myself and am pretty low-key style wise.
Wore my Explorer for 8 years in NY never an issue. Lived in Upper West Side commuted to 60 Wall no one cared what I wore on my wrist.
I always question the wisdom of people who recommend a fake Rolex to thwart the thieves. Like the meathead who scopes it out from 10 feet away is going to have the acumen to tell the difference. There might be a difference between how much cash you're out, but waking up in the hospital with a major concussion feels the same regardless of whether you were wearing a Rolex or a Pagani.
Agreed.
No wisdom there.
Not even street smarts.
Exactly. I have a friend in sales who lives in London and bragged about wearing fake Rolex and Hublot to impress people. He stopped for that very reason.
I'm in Florida as well, I'm always aware of my surroundings even on nice areas.
LA has gotten really bad. Thieves are heading to the wealthy areas and jacking peoples watches and handbags. It's gotten really bad over there. I live in AZ and it's constitutional carry over here so fortunately, you seldomly hear of these types of incidents. Need to be aware constantly of your surroundings and use common sense to avoid sketchy areas.
Happened to people i know in Berlin and Cologne. Cartier Santos and Chopard MM chrono stolen.
Wow!
I work in NYC and don't wear my sub anymore. Some days I don't wear any watch
How is it ?
Really? Why. Wore my Explorer for 8 years in NY never an issue. Lived in Upper West Side commuted to 60 Wall no one cared what I wore on my wrist.
@@JohnPWatches day to day it’s fine but it’s all over the news, buddy of mine got hit in the head from behind knocked out in midtown nice area had a Panerai stolen off his wrist another friend of a friend something similar. I work in a nice neighborhood three blocks from the diamond district on 6th ave I’ve worn Rolex, Breitling, Zenith, etc for years and haven’t thought anything of it until recently.
@@michaelriera6277 a couple friends got mugged in midtown one had a panarai stolen, I haven’t thought anything of it until recently
Keep around in the chamber very important
Hey everybody look over here at street crime not at secondary watch market shenanigans. Has any street mugger ever made a five million dollar score? Asking for Anthony Farrer.
thanks
Good job. Sad commentary on the world. The Class Warfare ‘he probably inherited money so it’s ok to rob him’ mentality. And another bad side effect of governments printing so much money - caused high end watches to skyrocket in value.
I see Subs and datejusts everyday on the subway. An occasional Nautilus or Royal Oak here and there. I do believe the robberies are happening but not as much as the news like to make it seem like it is
Which city?
@@JohnPWatches NYC!
NYC no one cares what your wearing.
Was TPG on that list of theft? 😂
Just yesterday in New York 2 guys where targeting me for my Rolex I notice ant then was obvious because I started paying attention to them, midtown Manhattan tho scary
I know the Bloomberg article listed JLC as one of the brands being targeted according to WatchRegister but I can't imagine this is true. I don't think dress watches sell fast in general but JLC doesn't have the same recognition in America as Europe or Asia. Any thoughts?
Maybe JLC paid for the mention to increase demand 😂
@@JohnPWatches LOL oh my gosh that was brutal
Rolex is ripping you off anyway so only difference is ?
It’s happening all over Philadelphia- muggers are stealing people’s Rolexes on the streets…. Be careful out there, folks!
I can't speak for myself but just consider for some, you are probably wearing over 10k on your wrist, or what the value of the watch will go for. To some that's an easy choice. Be safe out there.
I know one thing for sure: ain't nobody trying to steal a Rolex off of John P's wrist, not with a haircut like that. Might as well be trying to steal a watch from 90's era Steven Segal! 😀
☠️Fures usque ad mortem☠️
If you have over 25K on your wrist, don't go into the hood for a kebab on a Friday night.
What about using wearing something robbers don't rob!!
Dah
Do you think Rolex Air king is eye-catching and sought by robbers?
No
No cyclops makes it less obvious. It’s also not a hype model, but that might not be enough to stop criminals
I lift the weight of the watch up off ya arm
Remain nice and calm
You mean fake robbery of watch dealers 🤣 Watch market is dead. Watch dealers are finding a way out!
Love from India. What are your thoughts about Rolex acquiring bucherer.
