Do you ever feel uncomfortable with your children sleeping alone on top of the van and you inside? Idk I think I'd be a bit antsy about that one. But great use of the van for that many people.
Thanks, Valorie! We never felt uncomfortable with our kids being in the tent, especially with us being so close. We did have spaces for them to all sleep inside though if there was a storm, or some areas warned of bears/wild animals. Wish we would have shown the inside configured for all 6 of us sleeping inside! We were pretty cozy. 😆
My thoughts exactly. I wouldn't be able to let my children sleep separate from me. there was an incident decades ago in which a child was kidnapped literally from the tent while her parents slept separate from her in an RV.
Kinda silly thought but most people sleep in a different room than there children. In those rooms there is windows. What's the difference? I've never seen that idea before but what a cool idea!
I love how natural you guys are. Mostly, people just give a tour. Maybe, some technical stuff. But, I love how your family is just so happy to be together. And, you let that show. From letting your kids be a part of the production on their terms, to how you and your wife are so playful. I hope you never lose that. Great video and I hope there are more to follow.
Nice seeing a family doing van life. I feel like all I’ve been seeing are vegan 20 somethings. Love your sense of humor too. Can’t wait for more videos.
Its really great to homeschool and see others states... great for the family to share experiences.. it's kinda to bad that more people dont try this.. I'm just solo in E350 but it's nice for you to get out while the things in 2020 is going on.. cool setup.. enjoy your travels and take care ✌
Hey James! Thanks for watching. Did you do your own build and have you posted it anywhere? Def a lot of fun and we're surprised more people don't try it too!
I really like threw tent on top... I plan to make bed space for all of us however when living in such small quarters this would be a really nice "get away". I also like the toothbrush Holder with cover.
Laughing so hard every few seconds...from sour cream toothpaste and the very important steering wheel! Love your storytelling style so much, it's kinda sad when the video ended. Still building our van and our daughter needs to start homeschooling soon so we are getting lots of inspiration from videos like yours. Sending love from the Philippines!
Hey!! Thanks so much! Yeah, we had a lot of fun making this vid! Excited for you guys… all the work and time put into your van build will definitely be worth it! Enjoy your adventure!
So nice to see a family making it work. Good for you. Glad you able to home school your children. What an experience you are giving them. Keep going. Thanks for sharing.
I have 4 kids who are a little younger than yours. I keep trying to convince my husband that he would love van life. He’s not convinced yet. Maybe I’ll tell him he can make all the dad jokes he wants. 😂
Love you guys!! Wondering how do you get heat to the rooftop tent? If there is any. And how do you heat and cool the inside when you are camping? Thanks~
The obviousness of how he describes the kitchen is funny. And the sheet, I almost spit out my yogurt. I imagine this whole tour in Bill Murray's voice. This guy is hysterical!
I think someone big enough to steal your kids climbing on top of your van would wake one of the parents up. It is not at all like the parents being in a separate RV and a knife cutting a tent on the ground level which wouldn’t shake the foundation of your tent at all as in the Yates case. IMO, it’s pretty ingenious, gives the boys some autonomy, without danger.
Very inspiring! We are planning to take the plunge, sell our house buy a van and hit the road! You have a great set up and an incredible vehicle! Everything is so well thought out and organized. You will probably hear form us when we start this project :) Thanks for the great video!
Hi guys! Love your set up looks so great love that you did it by yourselves. I was wondering how the fourth seat is in the front. We have a bunch of kids too and think this will be perfect. Was it easy? Also do you have the 4x4 or the RWD? Anyhow great job ;) and thank you!!
I am so happy I came across your channel! I’ve always wanted to live a van but with 3 kids I also homeschool, I have been putting it off. You have given life to my dream again! Thank you!!
Just found your videos. Awesome van set up and your video helped answer some of my wonderings about van traveling with kids. Look forward to seeing more about your adventures! What form of homeschooling do you practice? We're unschooling 3 kiddos currently.
Hey! Thanks so much for your comment and glad the video helped answer some questions! We don’t have a specific educational style. We use some curriculum and kind of wing most of it. I’m involved in a community called Wild + Free and that’s helped shape my daily rhythms. Check them out if you’re needing any good homeschooling resources!
We have been homeschooling for 7 years and hit the road this year. I'm so sad now that I couldn't think of a way to make it work in a van. Holy cow. This is awesome. It would have been so much better to be in a van instead of pulling out travel trailer with our 12 seater Nissan NV. We have 5 kids.
Great video. Do you by chance have one of what your set up is like if the kids sleep inside? Sorry if you already answered that. I didn’t read all the comments.
Hi we are in the process of doing a skoolie. We have been homeless for right at two years in August and we got a school bus. I am so looking forward to road school our 5 year old Autistic Son. I so want to do that tent to the bus. That is so cool. I need details on that please. I have my info on my channel.
This was a great video I love how you guys are spending time together working together. I love how the boys helps with the tent. This give me something to think about While I’m doing my research. We are planning a van life not full time but when ever we want to leave and go travel. We are HC parents this is idea. You guys make the set up seems so easy and affordable. Thank you for sharing 🙏
Enjoyed the video! :) I would LOVE to see a video on daily organization. We just inherited a 1972 motorhome (not much bigger than a van 😆 and it is about to be our transitional home! Thinking about...laundry and towels and musical instruments... all the daily can't get rid of things. What do you guys do? :)
6 people in a class b? Maybe they're a little easier to drive, but Class C or Class A are far superior if there's more than one person. Six???? I never get how people can do this and then add a dog or two to the mix!
What about A/C / heat for the kids when you are driving? Does it ever too hot or too cold? Do you rely on the AC/ heat in the front. We are deciding weather to keep the factory AC in our van
This is a really great video. I have been trying to educate myself on living in a van and if it will be a good idea for our family. As of can we do it.. We also homeschool our children and I just want to be able to be more free to just get up and go. Not be stuck with some house chores and yard work everyday. We are getting ready to rent out our house this year and make that big move. Either buy a van already equipped or just do it ourselves. Watching families like yours gives us the courage and motivation to do it. Thank you both for sharing God bless.
Hi , I found this video by accident! This is amazing. I also have a camper van like yours being conversion in China. Thanks for the video, it gave me a lot of inspiration!
I was pretty excited to watch this video until one of your children needed to use the toilet and your first response was “just go out into the woods, grab some toilet paper”. That honestly goes against road rules as well as being illegal in some states. If you MUST use the woods as your toilet you are supposed to take a shovel and burry it at least12” down (some places 2’) so many people have hit the road without taking personal responsibility with them. The trash and vandalism in the parks is at an all time high and now being able to use BLM land is even starting to be taken away in some areas. Just from the first few minutes I’ve lost interest from your just use the woods comment.
Yes can I trade my car in for a van like this to build? If not how did you save to buy one I am a single woman. At the moment my youngest of four young adults is living with me. How do you get your mail.

living in a van with 6 kids??
Came here to see how you can van life with kids. Stayed for the Dad jokes

That tent bedroom looks like so much fun for kids. I would’ve loved to be living this lifestyle when I was growing up.

That is so sick! Quick question, what camera did you guys use to film this? It catches really good quality and seems comfortable to film with.
Love it! What do you do when it is raining - both during the day but also at night with the tent? Thundering and lightening/windy?
"Road-schooling", love it!! Even better than homeschooling! 💯👍😊

Do you guys run the Espar diesel heater underneath the van?
Nice couple and not annoying. Kids seem independent and loved the screen time they had.

It's so nice to see that the kids are very involved. Looks like they are all having a great time.
What program do u use for road school we’re in Cali too but finding few options
very cool! How long is this bumper to bumper?
What is the make and model of the roof top tent? Have you found it to hold up well in heavy rain?
Aren’t you ever nervous about having the kids in the tent at night? Is there a way you keep it safe?
Yall are funny as hell.!!!
His fitted sheet folding technique LOL
Works every time!
