  • www.jonpeters.com/ this video I am making shelves for a bookcase, unlike in my last video where I made the shelves out of birch plywood and then glued a heat activated veneer to the edge. This time I will a will apply a piece of ¾ x 1.1/2" poplar wood trim to the plywood edge.

really appreciate the explanation of the lumber and what to know on why/how they label them makes a huge difference to a lot of new woodworkers trying to get things less confusing

I have seen this modification used in a number of videos.
Question. If you made the front piece a little thicker and rabbeted the inside face so there was a supporting lip on the inside for the plywood shelf, would this add more support? Or would it just add additional weight with no real functional advantage?

I sincerely love the programme, very interesting very informative, very high creativity and presentation but I have ask what is the purpose of the presentation. Is it t teach a poor DIY selfer like me or to teach people of lessor skills - noting that there are not many out there.
I think I get it; whether it be Norm Abram, the Wood Whisperer, Steve Ramsey, Matthias Wandel or Frank Howarth, I know how to push sheets and timber though a table saw. Why do we have to be shown in every presentation the material going through it or the thicknesser or drum sander. Can't you simply say I cut these to length or size or I planed it down and show the assembly and other tips and experiences? etc,
    Cheers Mark from Australia.

    Jon,
What nail gauge did you use to attach the 1-1/2" poplar wood trim to the plywood edge.
