Your video is not only excellently shot and edited, with clear explanations, it's one of the few where I didn't have to turn on closed-captioning to understand what was being said. Thanks for investing in a decent mic and for your clear articulation.
Glad you asked if making this video would be worthwhile because it absolutely was! Simple project or not, there is always something to learn and worth every minute to watch!
Drew, you are the bomb! This is a great project for beginners and the like. Your design and approach make it very attainable and that is extremely important when it comes to convincing someone that they too, can build something like this. And of course, your videos are always entertaining. I envy your friend Janelle. Working alongside you would be the most entertaining woodworking project anyone could imagine.
Hey Drew! Thanks for the content sir. Always fun to see your humor and skills in action. I got a real cheap book case that is literally falling apart. It’s grown into a “book shelf and cycle riding gear” storage area. I think I could do this and actually make something way better than that crummy item I bought long ago. Thanks!!
Such a great neighbor...Don't worry, I found some walnut and flat head screws the other day. Couldn't believe that somebody left their door open like that. Interesting idea on the stop block. I've tried this, but apparently not "strong enough" as it still slid. It's my biggest complaint about pocket holes...darn things move when putting the screws in, even when using corner clamps and such. I guess I'll keep trying....I know where to get more plywood once I run out of walnut...oh...and flat head screws, but I've got 5 lifetimes of those. :)
Great video Drew! I'm wondering if my wife put you up to this because she recently asked me to build her a bookcase. I guess I''ll have to start building soon as I get some lumber. I'm thinking my neighbors doghouse might be exactly what I need!
For the hidden drawer could you not have attached that panel directly to the drawer, rather than having to remove it first? That would give you a handle of sorts too.
Has it crossed your mind that Janelle was a plant from your neighbor? it appeared as though she was trying her best to drill screws into your new work table as well as use up all your glue. Something to think about...
Wow Drew, how did you find such a humble sponsor? This was a fun project! I like how you were able to keep it simple and then also gave the option of giving it some Fischer’s Shop flair! Might make for a cool series!
...man I don't know...The stories on that sponsor. Theft of materials from neighbors, using flat head screws. I mean, can you REALLY trust a guy that would use Flat Head screws in today's age? I mean, it's not like he's building a wooden sailing vessel from the early 1900's and keeping it authentic or something. LOL!
Surprised your neighbor didn't donate the materials to build this project... pretty stingy of them. Also, glad to see you got the straight slot in there as well. I did have to cringe with your glue spreading technique--don't you know you can by a twelve dollar tool to do that? I would definitely hit your sponsor up for the money to get a proper glue spreader... I mean really what self respecting master furniture maker uses their finger... nearly had to unsubscribe when I saw that but I'll stick around for the outtakes... ah crap!
The neighbors start hearing crap, crap, crap and they know Fisher's doing another project and its time to start locking everything down so things don't go missing.
As per usual from you Drew a brilliant project but this time made from cheaper wood materials, love the hidden draw idea and the simple moulding that gives it that more expensive look i think your sponsor will be happy with this build, and it looks like your friend loves the build as well as her cat who now has a perfect seat with a view. Stay Safe. Barry (ENG)
Looks great, Drew. It was a good idea to keep the extra material. I was waiting for the flat head screws. That sponsor seems somewhat shady, though (lol). Bill
Well of course it's bad to spread glue with your finger because it's embarrassing to go to the ER with your finger glued into your nose after picking it .......................... or so my ............. friend ..... told me. Excellent project ! :) looks beautiful as usual !
9:45 .... I was nervous as I watched Janelle putting her finger under the piece she was jigsawing out... 😧 Anyhoo, it turned out great and she didn't waste too much precious glue... 🙄 The painters tape with weight-loss targets was a pro-move, I didn't see that coming... Nice vid, man ! 🤗 From the Emerald Isle 😎👍☘🍺
You spread the glue with your fingers just fine, but then you are supposed to wipe your fingers on the underside of your workbench...fail! Hope to see you do more with your laser soon.
Look man, I can lose the remote all by myself!! Sitting in the same spot as when I last used it, meaning it should not be lost, since it’s within my reach. Yet I either have some remote gnomes around my house, or my remote has completed its ninja 🥷 training, so there is already plenty of deception going on without giving Mama a place to hide the remote from me as well!! 😂
@@MCsCreations, I'd rather buy a new remote every day than let another one of those furry demons live in my house. We tried having 2 house cats. They shredded the back of my couch, and most of our mini blinds. Then they both snuck out the door and got knocked up. They were probably out partying with a bad crowd and smoking the Devil's lettuce. They were trouble makers. So, we ended up with 2 litters of kittens at the same time. Our 2 mama cats, who had been best buddies, suddenly hated each other and started fighting. There was constant hissing, and the occasional throwing of paws, until the kittens were gone. To top it all off, one of the little mini-demons they made climbed into one of the bass drums of my vintage '88 Pearl drum set and dropped a deuce. @@dannyhale7645 I hate to admit it, but I was really secretly hoping that you didn’t find the little adventurer, Kittyana Jones 🐱 🥁, until you had stomped on the bass drum, thereby creating an earthquake for the little guy, and making it seem like it didn’t switch the stone for the treasure well enough and the big ball had been released. Great video buddy. I have to say it is very odd to see you shopping for wood anywhere but your neighbors house. 😂😂 Added bonus is that the cat approves. 🐾🐾
Nice job Drew. I love bringing beginners in my shop. Working on another project with my son now. One thing I do with him is using the drill instead of impact driver when putting in pocket screws. Allows me to set the clutch so he doesn't drive the screw to China. Oh, yes... I too am incredibly, outrageously, unbelievably, and extraordinarily humble. Hope to see you at WBC next week.
From someone who has never made a bookcase in her life- why do you use plywood instead of walnut or what have you for the whole thing? Is it just a money thing?
Yes, mostly. It's way cheaper plus it means I don't have to make large panels. Additionally, plywood doesn't move with seasonal changes in humidity like a solid hardwood board would.
I have done woodworking off and on since highschool. Recently retired. I have the same Ridgid drill/driver set. About a year ago, I stopped using the driver for things like pocket holes. I prefer using the drill, and adjusting the clutch to about 60 or so to prevent stripping screws. I will adjust the clutch torque until I hit the correct setting.
oh yes... we saw the plywood split with the chisel. I'll bet I can get cheap materials from the sponsor too. I hear his supply chain is close by and cheap.

The fix for the hole in the trim was pretty smart!

Agreed 😉👍
filling the finger hole on the drawer with the walnut block was genius!

I'm a total sell out. They didn't even pay me to do that promo spot.
0:40 I thought you Drew Fisher in Fusion 360 but you actually made a book case. Impressive! :)

All the talk about the "rabbits" on the back I half expected Bugs Bunny to appear and run along the edge with his carrot lol
Drew, where did you get those clamps you use in the dog holes on your bench? Just finishing up a bench of my own and those look like something I need!
Bessey. Watch my workbench build videos and you'll see more about them
Not content with "borrowing" neighbour's fence, rails, planks and anything else , but you borrow his wife too !!
She did a good build too!!

Why go to the big box store when you could've just used your neighbor's walnut instead? That would've been a cheaper build.
I see you actually bought wood this time rather than stealing errrr borrowing from your neighbor. 😂

Good ply at Home Depot? Where is that? Every one ive seen has horrendous ply
“Holy crap! I think you sent that one down into China.” 😂
Water base poly doesn’t give you a pretty finish. Regular poly gives you depth in the finish. I hate water poly.
I agree, however the water poly doesn't amber over time, which is good. That would have discolored the stain finish which had the color she wanted.
