I made one of these from my daughters childhood toys. Her hubby purchased her a new sewing machine and I gave her the pin cushion. Sweet memories everytime she looks at it. Thanks for sharing the beautiful idea.
LOVE the button for needles idea!!! Hate losing needles in the pincushion!
Wow..just love all your lovely pin cushions videos...thanks ...excellent teacher! Enjoyed listening to them all..awesome!
Thank you! 🌷 I really, really enjoyed this video! Thank you. Love the idea of gluing a button on the pin cushion.
You make my creative lightbulb turn on every time!!! I have an old doll head with torso and lil arms that need to be turned into a pincushion sewing companion. Every time I see her in distress loved by someone so much she only had half of her body left, I knew I must try to do something to bring her back to life! Thank you! As usual after watching your videos to craft store for bag of pellets! Lol Thank you
I use crushed walnut shells for pin cushions. They are abrasive to help keep pins sharpened & heavy enough for weight. You find these at your local feed stores. I store unused shells in my freezer, but they are so clean it probably isn't necessary. Crushed shells are almost as fine as sand, but less messy. I use a funnel & a lining bag of muslin. Love your show!!
thank you, good idea!
Hello Laura, thank you for sharing your adorable collection. What a cool trick for cutting a circle.
I love the old fashion bonnet, have you considered doing a demonstration on how to make one for your subscribers. The memories you have I'm sure is as precious as having the pin cushion from your grandmother as well. Your collection of pincushions are are great to see. Thank you for sharing!
I'm glad i'm not the only one who loves a pincushion love the idea of putting a button on each one. xx
I LOVE PINCUSHIONS!! I probably have 15-20. Every shape and size you can think of but none with a stuffed animal. As soon as I saw this video I started looking around and found them at Walmart.com. They have everything from bumblebees to giraffes. I've already ordered some and can't wait for them to get here. Thanks for the tutorial.
Adorable and very practical. I also sew a couple buttons on pin cushions for sewing needles. It really helps.
Also, a person can find a stuffed toy at thrift store or garage sale or even some young relatives discarded toy to make the pinchushion. Also, think half doll from a discarded doll.
Hi Laura, Thanks so much for sharing your pin cushion collection, I, too, have some favorites, some I use regularly and others I have just because I enjoy them! Thanks for sharing how you made the panda pin cushion, very fun!
I love making pincushions to Laura...I love the tip of the button to keep sewing needles separate ...I will be on the lookout for a cute soft animal to add to my collection..with a button...which I also collect 😂. Thank you 💐
I love your tips about pincushions. The button is particularly brilliant!! I particularly need one that's weighted and think I'm going to make a tuffet one that I'll weight with washers from the hardware store. That way I can 'feel' how many I think I want. As always, I love your videos. I have frequently sent my granddaughter who's learning to sew to your site for instructions on a variety of things. Hope your new sewing room can continue. I know we'll all be happy to be able to see it. Stay safe and well! My best, from Los Angeles....
Love these animal pin cushions and the bonnet is cute as well.
Funny, I was making teacup pin cushions a few years back and was gluing a 4-hole button to each one. Never thought of your idea of putting the hand sewing needles there.
I love your collection, especially the critters. I have 2 plastic pin holders that have a clear portion and colored top with hole and magnet, so only the pinheads show, I love them. Then I have the regular tomato one and one I have made in about 15 seconds. It has a white glass base shaped like an oval basket, it used to have scented beads under a cardboard liner and fake flowers on top. I think it was Avon about 40 years ago. When the scent was gone I emptied it, and took a fabric covered foam shoulder pad and stuffed it in, tucking it so that it looked nice. I use it to hold my hand sewing needles and some open brass pins around the edge, which I used when fitting garments, they stay in and no one gets poked.
Hello, I Crochet also 😁 but this is a fabulous idea to make a decorative pin cushion 💙 thank you 😁 Erica x
you should try ground walnuts shells you can find them in a pet store used for bedding for reptiles. It is not expensive. The shells give u weight and it keeps the needles and pins clean and sharp. it is my favorite filler
I love the idea of using the head from the yarn bundle! I have several and now I know what I can do with the heads! Great idea for Christmas gifts for my DIL's!
OMG! YOU ARE THE QUEEN! Thank you for showing all your pin collections, and they are all very smart:)
I just finished making my very first pincushion and I love it. Thank you for the video
What a wonderful tour and tutorial. I loved especially how you put the button on so you don’t lose your needles, thank you, I love pincushions too, but only heavy ones.
Love, love, love your pin cushions! I am quite enchanted with pincushions myself. Unfortunately, I am better at collecting the materials, not so good at the follow thru! But perhaps you have motivated me! Thank you for all your wonderful videos!! I think I have watched them all!!
Cute, love the button idea for needles.
Delightful!!!…these obviously bring you joy!
I love the panda and thank you for showing how you put it all together. The embellishments that makes it your own was perfect. What a nice gift to your favorite sewer or for yourself. All your pincushions were fabulous to see as well. I too you a candy dish for a few supplies to be handy when I need them. God bless and congratulations on your new book. I am putting that on my wish list to get as soon as possible. I always learn so much from you as your a top teacher.
What an adorable pin cushion! I've seen those hat kits and even bought one, but turned it into a lovey instead of a hat. When I have to cinch something up, my favourite "thread" to use is dental floss. Sounds silly at first, but works like a charm!
BRB going to glue buttons to every pin cushion I have.
I found a small stuffed cow and some cow print. I filled it with aquarium gravel and poly fil. This was such a great way to give me a nice large Pincushion for my cutting table. Thanks for the post.
Adorable. I'm teaching my grand kids to sew. How they will flip for their own pun cushion
Adorable pin cushion collection.
Love ALL of your pincushions thank you so very much...I will be back!!! Your explanations are so fantastic and clear!!!
Oh Laura, I had a blast from the past when you showed the first pin cushion. I used to make those years ago, I had forgotten all about them. Now I want to try and make me one. I absolutely love the the new panda and rabbit ones, gotta make some of them too. Thanks for sharing and teaching ..
Thank you, Laura! Always a pleasure to watch , listen, and learn!!!
I am really enjoying your Sewning channel. Really impressed.
I do like the pin cushion you have made fantastic. I live in the U.K. so am having to find a shop that sells soft toy animal heads. Thank you again Eileen
You have, hands down, the BEST tips and tricks! Thank you so much for sharing!
Oh my goodness...the bonnet your grandmother maid is just a precious treasure!
A better choice for the environment than the plastic pellets is ground walnut shells. Cheap and readily available and they add a nice weight to the pin cushion.
I purchased crushed walnut shells inexpensively at my local Petcetera store as they sell them to those that need to line their lizard cages!
I love the bonnets at I make them all the time my grandmother made this way back in the sixties and 50 Sivan and we sold them around the neighborhood they were made out of scraps we use pieces of lice to trim them I make mine just like my grandma did and the modern span is just a about the same just a few differences I try to get fabric that looks as retro as I can
Laura. I love your videos. I've learned so much from them. This one is a favorite. I love pin cushions too. So many fun containers at good will make cute ones. A tip l can across is to use crushed walnut shells (sold as beding for reptiles at the let store) used as filling naturally sharpens needles and pins!
So beautiful.
Thank you Laura. For the great idea.
Oh love your pin cushions! Love the bonnet the most!
Adorable! Nifty scissors too! I gotta make one! Thanks Laura!

Thanks so much for sharing. I'm going to make these for sure. U r the one that got me into quilting 2 yrs ago and have made many. Blessed love ones with them. Now these 💓
That is so cute , I love it, I should make my very own one. The one I have is what my friend made me when I took sowing classes from her. She taught me how to use patterns and make my first dress.....good days . And she showed me how to make my own curtains and valances , to match. I do like your works , and you always demonstrate it so well thank you...🌹❤️🌹❤️
Thanks for the idea. I saved the head & tail from a favorite dog toy, always intending to remake the body, the salvaged parts outlasted my furry friend. This will be a lovely reminder. How happy I am to have watched this video. TYFS.
I love it! I am going to make one for me and few more for my quilting friends! Thank you for the easy direction!
Love the pin cushion video. I’m inspired!
Hello, another good idea I use when stuffing Amigurumi Crochet animals is put the stuffing inside a Nylon/Tights 😁 then the pellets, rice etc will not come out 💕 Erica x
Thanks!!
Thank you Laura, yet another watch that was informative in your friendly warm style. Really enjoyed. X
Great tip on the button, may have to use that one. Thanks!

Genius is the word for this, can't tell you how often I search for that one favorite needle that is stuck somewhere in my pin cushion and I have buttons galore!

Adorable. love your collection
That is so clever and cute!!!
Such a cute project!
I loved the animals pin cushions - saw the Top This at Hobby Lobby and loved them but didn't have any idea what to use them for, then I saw your pincushions and went back to get them from Hobby Lobby but they were gone. Found them on Amazon - ordered 5 of them so can give one to my sister and friends.
This is the wholesome and lovely content we need and deserve in 2021. Thank you so much for making me feel warm and cozy. 😊🤗❤️
Awwww Love it ..love it...... thank you so very much ,

Karol
Adorable! I have to make one as well! Thank you Laura!
Yes How fun!.. something great idea for my sewing buddy.. Thank you Laura so much!
Love your bonnet, have you ever thought of making one and doing a tutorial. I'd love to have that in my sewing nook. ❤❤ I think I'm going to look in the kids section from now on.
That's a really cute Panda pin cushion. I had found a ceramic bowl with a wooden lid a while ago, and decided to make it a pin cushion. I'm trying to figure a way to make the wooden lid the cushion and use the bowl for excess pins. I'm thinking of using a gathering foot to be able to glue the fabric to the circumference of the lid. I hope it works. Haha
I love pincushions as well, your collection is fantastic
Thank you Laura I love pin cushions!
wow you have a lot. I made some as gifts using a tea cup. Love the collection!

Adorable pin cushions. The little bonnet is so sweet. Grandma must have been talented as well as her granddaughter. Was she your mom’s mom or dad’s mom?
