  • We're joined by two of our favorite foreign policy writers to examine what the end of Bashar al-Assad’s regime means to Syria and the region. Anne Applebaum and Frank Foer from The Atlantic also look toward the incoming Trump administration and what lies ahead. Can Trump be a steady hand to stop escalating war around the world? How will Israel react? And what happens to our support of Ukraine in their efforts against the tyrant Putin?

    Thank you Al Franken . I'm 72 years old retired disabled UAW member and a veteran. This started with Reagan's election and millions sadly cheering on his trickle down economics. America's 50 years of a race to the bottom continues with DJT election. Volodymyr Zelenskyy's words spoken during Russia's invasion move me to this day. Have a most wonderful day Al Franken

    I wish your panel had made a stronger case for NATO. Sure everyone says that article 5 is what creates a deterrence in the alliance. While this is important I think it overlooks another key advantage of NATO membership.
    NATO over many decades has managed to achieve interoperability between weapons systems, communication systems, tactics & training and so on. So for example this means that munitions, radar systems, tactics and systems for situational awareness, just to name a few can be produced anywhere in the world and then be easily integrated into the military structure of a member country. This is the real threat to an adversary who will find it nearly impossible to knock out NATO capacity to wage war by just crippling one or two countries.
    It would be extremely reckless to throw all of this away - particularly because it is an accomplishment that was not achieved overnight.

    • @vestibulate
      @vestibulate 7 днів тому

      @srb1855 The actual key advantage in joining NATO consists in having your country taken over in the interests of U.S. imperialism. From that point on, all the hard decisions involving war and peace will be managed from Washington. The sense of relief engendered by this simple step is nothing to be sneezed at, nor is the expanding national debt tied to the mandatory purchase of NATO weapons systems in every production cycle. Yes indeed, on the day your country is welcomed under the NATO umbrella, you'll no longer have to ask those hard, useless questions and then make up your own mind. There'll be only one path to follow, and no turning back.

      As far as how many Israeli that were killed by Hamas on Oct. 7th those numbers still need to be investigated, but Israel has lied about 40 beheaded babies and mass rape and carrying out attacks on their own citizens.
      Today Israel is carrying out a genocide in Gaza, and in the West Bank settlers are killing Palestinians and forcing hundreds out of their homes since October 7th

    Ukraine isn't a democracy. Far from it. In democracies there is more than one TV Channel, main political parties and main Christian denominations aren't banned, no mass extrajudicial killings, disappearances and torture, men from 18 to 60 aren't banned from leaving the country, people aren't rounded up in the streets and dragged to their death. Democracies hold elections after all. Well, it's a quote from The Time article. Zelenskyy top advisers say about him: “He deludes himself, ” one of his closest aides tells me in frustration. “We’re out of options. We’re not winning. But try telling him that. It is immovable, verging on the messianic.” According to the Economist Zelenskyy is literally screaming at his generals at this point. One Austrian artist was in a similar state in 1945 . Zelenskyy "achievements" to date: 790,000 Ukrainians are dead, 3x that mangled and crippled for life, half of Ukraine's population is living as refugees scattered all over Europe and Russia right now, they're drafting women because they've run out of men to kidnap off the streets, gyms and public transport. NYT wrote about these mass kidnappings that were happening only in Zelenskyy Ukraine and Hitler's Germany in 1945 in an article ‘People Snatchers’. According to Zelenskyy latest statement only joining NATO or nukes can save his hide. These are lunatic ramblings of a desperate dictator before the imminent collapse of the regime.
