Late Night had such a great charm about it. I miss those days. I had just graduated high school around the time that this aired. It's pretty surreal watching these clips. It takes me right back to that time.
Mee too, my friend. Your story reminds me of my highschool days. I used to stay up all night with my older cousin watching Late Night with Conan and he really helped shaped my sense of humor and understanding of comedy.

But also I think he just attracts those kind of people in the first place, because of who he is and how much those kind of people gravitate to his sensibility and then want to work for/with him. So it's not surprising that he keeps discovering these hilarious, strange, fascinating and talented people. I sometimes wonder what would've happened if Karl Pilkington had worked at NBC on Conan's show in the early noughties, instead of on XFM...
I always wanted to drum half as good as max! hell, even a quarter! I would study max's moves every night on tv and run to my room and try and do what i saw him do, If i could even remember what it was, by the time i made it to my room! Never did sound anywhere near what i heard on Conan. I do play a 5 piece, but no excuses!
Look you say whatever about Conan but he’s unmatched with keeping staff around and the bad is no different. The Max Weinberg seven literally became Jimmy Vivino and the basic cable band when he went to TBS and were with him up until the show went to a half hour in the last few years- even then they made repeated appearances for specials and live performances and they STILL do today whenever he does live podcast performances, and they do incidental music for the podcast. They played Conan’s wedding. They went on his comedy tour when he wasn’t allowed to be on TV. Max weinberg had to step out after the tonight show (although he visited still) but Conan has kept the rest of the band with him at literally every possible opportunity
