I grew up watching Arnett and Jimmy play live. In the late 70's before Arnett's comeback, they would play at Huber's Seafood in downtown Houston, of all places. They played each week to only a few dozen people at most, but performed like they were at Carnegie Hall.
I still miss them both to this day.

I love the way Jimmy Ford sneaks in the first line to You're Just In Love ('I hear singing and there's no-one there') in at 3:44!

What a gas, to see and hear those Houstonians swinging! I met Arnett and Calvin, but actually knew Jimmy pretty well. He was, as they say, "ONE in a row!" lol

Very musical drummer there; he is playing riffs usually heard on other instruments and he has a lot of finesse plus a fine sense of rhythmical timing without rushing his fills. That's how it should sound all you youngsters out there who dismiss jazz as "old school" and no longer "cool". Try playing like this! No slop here, just good clean straight ahead swing/bebop drumming.

I worked with Jimmy in Houston in the early '60s. We played at a club called The Little Jazz Bird on Sunday afternoons. We also worked some stripper gigs (Just drums and alto sax!) on South Main St. He was a very kind, soft-spoken man, self-effacing and very patient.
