There's plenty of lessons covering this song but I figured I'd make one in standard tuning, since it can be played almost as the original!
This is a great song to practice, not only because it's fun to play but mainly because it can improve your fingerstyle technique. José González is to me one of the great underrated guitarists and a master of constructing unique fingerpicking patterns, and by learning his songs you can develop your own technique and come up with your own fingerpicking patterns.

Amazing tutorial I've been wanting to learn this song but never wanted to tune my guitar to play it, great work! Already playing it after watching this for a few hours and practicing.
How lazy are you to not wanna drop D and Gb it’s literally 10 seconds of work
@@NormadYT I actually ended up dropping one of my guitars into his D tuning with the F# !
wish you would explain the second thumb stroke because to me it didnt make sense at first. but good tutorial!

@@teganskyrme5327 do you know how to count beats? the second thumb stroke is in the "&" between 3 and 4.
as in "1 & 2 & 3 [thumb stroke] 4 &"

Your style of teaching is perfect for me. I don't really know how to play guitar much at all, I've just randomly decided to woefully attempt to play whatever I feel like playing in order to keep myself occupied every now and then and I guess that counts for something because this actually went much better than I thought it would! You broke down everything really well and I was able to get it going within half an hour.

Sounds really nice and great tutorial! I would love to learn it but I am still a beginner and feel like this song is too hard for me. Just a little thing if you plan on doing more tutorials (but maybe that's cause I am still a beginner): It would be great if you wrote somewhere what strings exactly you picked and where to place the fingers, it's a bit hard to see sometimes, but maybe that's just me. Keep up the good work! :)

I don't know how to play quitar, but I chose this as the first song to learn. Maybe not the best idea to start with fingerpicking, but it sounds so nice! :D

@@Bapsie Unfortunately not. The strings on my guitar are really high and you need to press really hard to get them down. :( Even my friend who have played guitar for years said the strings were really high, and it's not the best guitar for a beginner.And perhaps because of the weirdly high stings, it's not even totally in tune when you go further away from the neck.
I managed to learn the first part of the song, but I think I need to take my guitar to some professional to see if the strings can be lowered down even a bit. I just don't have enough strenght in my fingers. :/
Yeah~ I had a similar problem when I bought myself a new guitar, it's a good idea to search your area for a lutier (I think that's how you call 'em in English) through google maps or ask your local music shop if they can help you fix that or give you an information of someone who can help~ Don't worry, it is fixable! This is a year too late, but yes, he IS picking E and D simultaneously. It takes some practice to get it right and not mess up the flow, but it can be done :)

Wow. That’s impressive but the bridge misses the feel. Love it though very useful for those not confident retuning
