  • This project is a fun example of how you can hand build relatively large ceramic pieces for decorative uses. I show the steps I used from throwing and hand building through glazing and final fire.
As part of the making of this, I also wanted to try and make the widest piece I could fit into my electric kiln. This piece is just under 20" wide fully fired.
I hope you enjoy and are inspired to make something yourself. Please like and subscribe for more.

I never even considered yard art a possibility! The ceramic flower is beautiful.

You can never have too many daffodils!
At least, I can’t... now you’ve planted a seed in my brain - I guess I should say planted a bulb! Thanks

Wondering how you might go about attaching it to a pole. I love it!

Love this!!! I like the SIZE of this daffodil, I occasionally make poppies on a much smaller scale.

Very pretty! Largest daffodil I've ever seen... and it looks great on that beautiful gate. Thanks!

Just looked at this for the first time and love the outcome! An inspirational thought came to mind that if you shortened the center "vase", that the leaves could become "plates" for shrimp, or whatever food floats your boat and the "vase" could become a dipping sauce container. Would be great for entertaining and a beautiful conversation piece of your art. Would leave the color just as you did it.

A happy thing! Since it is meant to stay outside I would have added holes in the bottom of the "cup" to avoid collecting stagnant water.

Hiya x your daffodil is great. I made something similar a few months ago, two large lillies, but they have sat on a shelf since waiting to be glazed. I will get around to glazing them soon, but they need lots of hand painted detail inside. Maybe I will get brave and make the time. I would love to see more about how yours copes and changes with the weather. Thanks for sharing. :)

That was great! Did you ever mount it to a pole? I’m looking for an effective way to mount a smaller flower to a pole
And have it sturdy yet bendy so it can sway in the wind slightly

I think its very pretty. Great job and thanks for sharing. Would it have to be brought in in the winter because of rain getting in the middle and freezing? I thought maybe it could also be a center piece on a table with the petals being used to place food on and the center being a place for dip. Many uses. Great idea!

Great project! It will be interesting to see if a momma bird seizes the opportunity to use the center to nest. Perhaps being on the gate will make it less attractive to birds.

Here. A winter freeze would crack it, unless you used a high fire like cone 10. What cone did you fire it at?

I fire at cone 5/6. We don't get much freezing here, but I do put a lot of crocks and dishes in the freezer without cracking.
