Okay. This is now my mantra: “It’s not a stop sign; just a speed bump”.
Yes! I love it! Such a positive push to not give up yet.
A good life lesson!
Same!
Love that mantra!!! 😍
Absolutely Amazing New Catherine’s Sews sewing room !!!! Wow !!!!! I absolutely love your new different angles, zooms and views !!!! Keep it up Catherine !!!!!
I like both!
Nice tops.
Both fit beautifully! I think the red is my favorite because the black trim really blends so nicely. Great job!!
That lace at the bottom was a trend for about 30 seconds.
Congratulations on your remakes! They are both going to be great additions. The aqua trim really lightened up the dark looking top. Red & black are eternal favorite combinations for me. Thanks for sharing your work.
I love this whole idea. These tops turned out beautifully. I've lost 75 pounds, so I have several tops I'd love to resize. I wish you showed us how it was fitting while you were tweaking your plan to make it fit just right.
I think you are so brave to attempt the changes in the tops. They look fabulous with the changes and suit you very well. BTW, I am going to steal your "It's not a stop sign just a speed bump" mantra, it suits my sewing style perfectly!😄
I’ve watched many of her videos and cringe each time she cuts into the garment. Idk why I do it anymore, because she knows what’s she doing and everything ends up looking great.
I’ll keep it cause it’s in my DNA… thanks for the laugh!
Made me laugh too, I thought oh good I’m not the only one who does that lol
You can try stipling the white threads on the hole with a black fabric paint pen too. 💚 Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your approaches to "speed bumbs". I always learn something from every video!!!
Wonderful transformation 😊
You are truly amazing! I've been sewing for more years than I care to think about and I'm not sure I would ever attempt something like this. Thanks to you I have reclaimed a couple of clothing items that I just didn't like and they turned out quite nicely. You are an inspiration!!! I would love to have the Babylock Victory serger, but I just had to put a new roof on my house and a new furnace!!! So probably not this year.😥. Thank you so much.
That's amazing to hear! I'm so glad you found inspiration in my videos!
Like them equally❤
You are always an inspiration. Both of these blouses are beautiful. I didn't really think the print was salvageable; but I truly like it now that you have worked your magic.
I just recently found your channel - I’m beginning to teach my granddaughter to sew, she turns 10 in April. I’m finding your sewing videos invaluable! Thank you!
That's so sweet! I hope my videos help you and your granddaughter learn and have fun.
My fav party of your videos is the clear, slow instructions. I've bailed on many videos that *might* have been a help except there was no talking at all! Thank you for how you instruct us! 💖
So good to hear! I get why there are so many tutorials with no talking (to reach a wider international audience) but I agree that spoken instructions can be really important.
@CatherineSews well they are for me. We all have different ways of learning & I've learned so much from you!
I infinitely prefer the talking, and you sound so friendly like a good friend
Apart from your being so informative, I often do hand stitching while watching so your talking alerts me to when I need to pay more attention
Red is your colour, you look so good in it. Both tops have had an amazing transformation. Thank you for sharing this with us.
That’s a very flattering re-design. I’m definitely going to make use of it. Thanks!
If you get really strong glasses or a magnifying glass...you can just catch the loops on the edge of a hole & tighten until almost closed, but not quite.. it is perfect for cashmere & little boys t-shirts barely pucker & no one ever sees it! I rarely bother with more than 1 stitch across, if that. (Probably fixed 200+ holes!)
You’re my inspiration for restyle/repurpose. I even enjoy deconstructing stuff. You taught me how to pick a serged seam and it’s a timesaver! Great content today, Teach! ❤
Great ideas & clear guidance on how to make it work, speed bumps & all 😏. I’d like to offer a suggestion concerning the part where you were fixing the holes & there was a little bit of white showing through on the front side of the print. I’ve used fabric markers in a matching colour & heat set the ink. Works like crazy magic!
I love the fact that your glasses are the same colour as each shirt.
Since you had the turtleneck and the sleeves for myself I would have used those as inserts and binding. It took me a long time to be able to sew knits. When I was young the stores barely had any knits for sale. Im 125 years old! No, 69 but sewing really young. After so many decades now Im still mostly using straight stitch on everthing. I didnt realize I taught myself stretch and sew! And I never worry about grain and never make diagonal binding. I use a lot of lace from 2 way stretch teen type tops or quality men's tshirts. With tshirts I find cutting strips vertically the less stretch helps stabalize finer knits. I got a serger last year for my birthday and used it once! I need to learn to re thread it as it has 4 colors!
I love watching you show us how we can bring clothing we already have in our closets or great thrift store finds back to life 🩷
I have learned so much from watching your posts. So creative. Love the "speed bump" approach.😊 Thank you for showing when things aren't quite right and the steps taken to correct. ❤
Thanks! I'm so glad you find it helpful when I show my sewing process, the good and the not so good!
The red one is soooo much better! Well done
The red one is my favorite and seemed so much easier to adjust.
You are a very talented seamstress!
I love both of those! I would like to mention that if you have an old mechanical machine like I do, a narrow zig zag can work instead of a lightning stitch. I think it’s the only stitch I miss from my computerized machine (RIP, expensive Kenmore).
Awesome Catherine, I really like them both.
I love that you up cycle, decreasing the waist in our world ❤
What creative upcycles and such a flattering design! I have always wanted a wrap top but it never happened as I was afraid of “gaposis”. This is a modification I really want to try!
The top matches your art. ❤❤❤
Always love seeing you problem solving on the fly. I get little holes in my shirts from my cat struggling to get away from me when he runs outside lol 😂
What a fun way to do a v-neck! The red is my fave, can't wait to see what you do with the grey one!💜
Great tutorial! Both sweaters look SO much better after altering 🎉
I really like the floral patterned top. You lost me at first but once you started sewing I found my bearings. I can do this too. And I'm definitely going to remove the lace bottom on two tops I have that I otherwise like to wear. Thanks Catherine.
Wonderful inspiration. When addressing tiny holes at the waistline I usually iron on a scrap of fusible knit interfacing to the wrong side. it doesn't affect the drape and it omits any bulk. I don't find that it comes off. Even less work than hand sewing. Just a thought.
I love these tops Catherine. They both look lovely on you. Great ideas as usual. Thank you for inspiring us.
I like both, but I think I love the first better as it's more my favorite colors.
Another great tutorial, thank you. I love that you show us the readjustments you had to make after you’d sewn it together. Lots of people don’t keep that content in and it can make one feel incompetent when one’s own project doesn’t come together straight away, so thanks for keeping it real.
Love the red best! But the other one is darling as well! A little more casual perhaps! Love the new sewing set-up/room!
I always wondered how to convert to the wrap style. Always thinking I would need extra fabric, but I wouldn’t! Thanks!
Wow! I love them both. Thanks for teaching that technique.
Love the style of the wrap. Both are unique.
They are beautiful. Such a neat idea.
I think I like the red one best. I’m not sure if it’s because I like the style or because it’s a better colour for me.
Can’t wait to try those wrap top techniques
Red one looks more comfy and stylish. Good remodel! I am always impressed with your ideas and
brave approach to "disassembly".
Im enjoying your new sewing configuration for you. The large cutting surface is wonderful.
And of course, 2 well fitting tops!!
I like the red on the best. I love watching you figure out how to fix whatever you are working on. Thank you
They look really good Catherine 😊
The burgundy/black is my fave. 😍
Catherine, I love this!
You do inspire Catherine! Thank you
Amazing job as always! They are both really great tops, that I think the red is the best of the two. Thanks for sharing!
You inspire me with every video
The red one looks amazing!! Particularly.
I like them both. Thank you for teaching me how to take clothing and make something new from it. I got a lot to do
Loved this! I have been going through your videos to recommend to my Sew FREE students.
I love both of them but the red is my favorite
They turned out great. Another great idea to redesign a top. Thank you ❤
Amazing transformation of the shirts!
the red one is my favorite 👍🙂
I should add that i like both but the red one is my favorite ❤
Thank you for this video! It was so helpful, especially the part about fixing those irritating little holes that appear on the front of shirts.
Both are nice, but I think the red one is my favorite- it looks very put together, esp w the black pants!
The faux wrap really turned out cute. I like sleeveless turtlenecks to wear under sweaters in winter to add a bit of warmth but not bulk under the sleeves. I have also turned too tight turtlenecks into dickies.
I love your tutorials, I have learned sew much from you. You are the teacher I have been looking for. ❤
Awesome I love them both❤❤❤ daytime and evening wear absolutely amazing ❤❤❤
Both of you tops tuned out very nice. Thank you.
❤Thank you this helps me so much.
Your amazing, both tops are lovely 👌
Wow! These both turned out so cute! What a great idea and completely changes the look! And the fit is very flattering!
Beautifully done& so inspiring! I like the red & black top the best but they’re both awesome on you! Thanks 🤗🇨🇦
I get those little holes in all my T-shirts. I think a lot has to do with the fabric nowadays. I remember having T-shirts in the past that I had for years and never got holes like I do today. I remember one shirt I bought and the very first time I wore it I got holes all over the front and all I did was wear it to dinner. It’s really irritating to buy a shirt and have holes in it after one wearing.
Often, the belt buckle and the buckle pin cause those nasty little holes. I don't wear a belt anymore for that reason
Thank you for your great ideas! 😊💜🇨🇦
Wow, I learned so much today and both tops look great!! Thank you!
Thank you. I always learn something new from you. Love both fops.
I like the red one even better too.
I like the red one best
I like them both
Very clever
They are both lovely but I think the red is my fav.
Beautiful😊
Both great. You amaze me 😊
I like both, but especially the red.
I prefer the last one because of the style and color.
Excellent. Thank you so much : )
comentario=gran trabajo en la transformación de las blusas. me encanta cómo explicas cada paso.
Great!
I get them little holes in most of my t-shirts, maybe I should wear my apron more to see if that helps
Your videos are always inspiring. I admire your patience and i needed to hear what you said about speed bump today 😊 i just made a sweater dress Simplicity S9701and the neckline was perfect before I added the facing (knit lining) and now its gaping... I wonder if you have a video on that? I'll search. You inspired me to go back and fix it, rather than donating.
Great job keeping those clothes from the land fill🎉
I like the red shirt best, but I might not be your recycle or the placement of the ribbing as much as I just prefer the print. Either way, both tops have been improved and will hopefully be in your wardrobe for years to come.
Hi Catherine, well done on these top! QUESTION- QUESTION
QUESTION- I had posted this question on your last video but let me post it again here.
I was wondering if you have a video or do something for knits. I quite new with knits and having a hard time to pick my size and the knits that would go with this, If you have a online course that you offer, I would love to take it since I don't know how to gain the knowledge require to master the fabric and pattern. Thank you!
Hi, sorry I missed your question the first time. I don't have any online courses yet, although I'm thinking of putting some together. But here's a video that you might find helpful: ua-cam.com/video/i8GgrhvfAaI/v-deo.htmlsi=h9i77ZNjc0T7JDOr
Will we see either of these in Italy?😊
I like the red. It seems to create a longer torso. I'm a high waisted woman and I'll take every inch that give the appearance of a taller torso.
Great idea to make something fit properly and then become a top to be worn rather than lying at the bottom of a drawer (I might have a few of those😢)!
I get little holes on T shirts from my cats. I have a pile of garments to try Invisible Mending needle punch or Origami. If you have any interest in that, I’ve love to watch.
I have used a permanent marker to help disguise ant "white" around a mended hole in a garment
I like the red alot. When you hem a multicolored print how do you choose the thread color? Do you ever use invisible thread?
