why is everyone saying Singapore being small is a disadvantage ? Small not necessarily lose out, just like IC chip small but packed with power. Singapore is like a IC chip

Small is valuable that’s it. even if you armed yourself to your teeth. Staying neutral and friend with all your neighbour is not only important it is life and dead. Imagine if singapore have a dispute with it neighbour and the neighbor engage China the largest blue water navy of the world to cause disturbances in singapore then what will happen? $$ fly off from singapore in second. $$$ doesn’t like places with potential risk. USA is like a candle in the wind anytime it will collapse. No longer a dependable partner. In fact it is very dangerous to be closed to USA now because when a great empire is about to collapsed they will use their last breath to stay alive by forcing all it allies to either join the fight or contribute resources such as $$ to fund their last battle.
Geez i don't know....not like the normal citizen will profit from this. Feels like major corporations will profit from this while the citizens will get left out.

However, to truly become the world's bank, Singapore still needs to cope with the fierce competition in the global financial market, strengthen financial innovation and talent development, enhance international competitiveness, and strengthen financial cooperation with other countries and regions. This is a process that requires long-term efforts and continuous adaptation to market changes.
Since Switzerland is no longer a neutral country, Singapore is a good replacement for her.

It is definitely possible that Singapore become the world's bank. Supposedly Singapore develops at the current trajectory and assuming that HK continues to deteriorate in political and economic stability. It will take a fairly long time for the rich to get used to banking in Singapore rather than in Switzerland.
In the list of Global Sovereign Wealth Funds, Singapore has 2 in the list of Top 10.. GIC and Temasek Holdings. No other ASEAN countries is listed .
HK Monetary Authority investment portfolio is also listed but it's only 1.. while Singapore has 2 listed in the Top 10

what economic miracle? When I live in Singapore, I lived in poverty although I made $200,000 a year. Everything was so expensive. My annual salary was not enough to buy a lousy Corolla. Don't just look at how much Singaporeans make. Look at what they can buy with that income. Singapore is poor, not rich.

Singapore is not an authoritarian state. There are more than one party in the parliament and members of the parliament exercise voting for any new policies or issues. Also all young men are compulsory to serve national service but it depends on them whether to continue after the service period ends.

Singapore might have large gross debt but its credit rating is AAA because its assets outweigh its debts as such it has zero net debt. SG does not borrow to fund running the country instead it borrows for investments which gives assets that have value.

The government has strict fiscal policies over the years that they can only spend what they can collect in their term of government, which means, no deficit over the years regardless which party forms the government. It is written into LAW. Parliament is always arguing about putting back what percentage of returns into the reserves, which means, save more or save less. The reserves, though no government has revealed its amount, is estimated by financial institutions to be 1.2 trillion dollars - 2 trillion dollars depend on times. To make it plain, no investors with billions of dollars would put their money in a country with massive debts and deficits because there is risk that it would be taken away by laws and guns. These rich people are not stupid. Period.
