Tom- I planted 2 acres of sorghum here in Ohio this year- any tips on combining it? I’d like to combine the heads and chop the stalks for fodder as well. Any advise you could give me would be greatly appreciated 😊
@@reppfarms4493 Welcome to our channel. What are you going to do with it? It needs to be relatively dry to store for long. We cut it with our flex head locked up , rigid head would probably work too. Depends on your combine, we ran the rotor about wheat speed and the fan 15% slower, still lost some out the back. There was a lot of fodder left that’s for sure. Good luck 👍🏻
@@Thewaywefarm Thank you- I plan on storing it on the farm to feed hogs, sheep & chickens. The more I looked into sorghum, the more sense it made to grow than corn-shorter growing season, less nutrient needs, same feed value as corn. I will keep you updated!! Thank you 😊
Great Video Tom. Looking into this also, because of all the deer damage here in Western New York. Did you have to buy vacuum plates for your planter and what was your population at planting?
We used milo feedcups and planted at 95,000. We should have planted a month earlier but other than that we are happy with it! Thanks for watching and the comments.
Yes Ed, it’s new to our area, it is our milo. We had 2 other friends grow 75 between them so we could sink or swim together! My friend a couple hours east grows 300 acres a year and loves it. It’s used in bird seed about an hour south of here and hopefully the price holds up. We tried it because of deer pressure, they barely touched it compared to soybeans or corn. It also does better in drought conditions than corn. Hopefully it works out for us, definitely need to plant it a month earlier next year.

@@reppfarms4493 Another thing we like about it is it’s more drought tolerant and deer don’t eat it as badly as they do soybeans. Best of luck.

Sorry if I missed this, but is this your crop Tom? Is Milo new to our area and what's it used for? I'm completely unaware of it.
