- 15 English slang words that you absolutely have to know in 2020 in order to understand TikTokers, UA-camrs, and other cool people on this planet. These terms are used in American, British and Australian English.
(1) Lit. When something is exciting, really enjoyable, you can say it’s “lit.”
(2) GOAT. It is an acronym of Greatest Of All Time.
(3) Snatched. When someone is wearing something that is very fashionable or has a look that looks really good.
(4) On fleek. This can be used as a replacement for "on point," meaning something has been perfectly done.
(5) Salty. You can say someone is salty when they get upset or angry over something.
(6) Fit. Unlike the British version of the term "fit," which means attractive, in the United States, "fit" is just the shortened version of the word "outfit".
(7) Dead. As slang, it means that something is so funny or ridiculously good it's forced you to be hyperbolic.
(8) Fire. It is used to refer to something that is really cool and amazing.
(9) Low-key. This can be used as a replacement for "quiet," "modest," "not very assertive."
(10) High-key. It is the opposite of low-key.
(11) Shady. When someone is very sneaky, suspicious, you can say that person is "shady"
(12) Savage. This word is used as internet slang when describing a shocking event or a careless attitude.
(13) Shook. When someone is shook it means they are shocked or incredibly surprised.
(14) Slay. To "slay" is to do really well or succeed at something.
(15) Stan. "Stan" can be a noun for an overzealous and obsessive fan, and a verb meaning to be that kind of fan. It originated from an Eminem song of the same name.

I'm watching her every single video just to hear her beautiful english
Some advice for non-native speakers: It is important to learn slang terms so you know what others are saying, but I recommend that you do not use them. You will most definitely get the use wrong and just sound like an old person trying to talk like the kids.
why do i always watch these even though i’m american lol
Hiiii
😅😁
Why 😂
I want to practice english with a native speaker are you available ?
Hobbies : movies - songs - robotics - food - anything you want
Maybe it's your cup of tea lol😂
Mam, I'm from India, and I'm 13yrs old. I'm not at all good in English, and daily My Mum use to scold Me that You are not at all good in English, but after following You I improved a lot, and now My Mum is appreciating Me and She is very happy... You are the best teacher I ever had in my Life till now... You are really GOAT(GREATEST OF ALL TIME) mam... I'm really happy now... Thank You So Much Mam.

Hahaa don't worry about your English ! My English was very bad when I was at your age. But it's will be better day by day if u try hard and still love learning English. This channel is a good source for u to learn more about English. BTW I'm 16 and nice to meet u ! :)

@@hongnhungphan8328 sure! Nice to meet ya too......of course this a lovely channel....I even know to speak British and American accent, but idk why I go nervous when it comes to literally speak in fronta others😌
Chillin : spending time with your friends

Ankle biter : a derogatory term used for infant or small child
Bae : short for before anyone leaves referring beloved individual like a significant other
Marina we love u
Tight : Mad or upset

Lit can be used in two other ways as well. Like “I’m so lit right now,” as in; I’m very high or drunk. Also gamers use it to tell their teammates they’re injured. “I’m lit! I’m lit!”
I haven't heard "I'm lit" in that context. I've heard "I'm hit" and "I'm lit up," but never just "I'm lit." I'll have to keep my ear open for that.
LIT - enjoyable, exciting
GOAT - (Greatest Off All Time)
SNATCHED - really good
ON FLEEK - perfectly done
SALTY - irritated
FIT - beautiful, attractive
DEAD - funny
FIRE - really cool and amazing
LOW-KEY - quiet, modest not very assertive
HIGH-KEY - opposite of low-key
SHADY - to be very sneaky (scam)
SAVAGE - shocking event
SHOOK - your surprised
SLAY - to do really well (amazing look)
STAN - "when you're obsessed with anything"
Stan doesn't mean not true. It means fan. She only used game of thrones as an example to say she's a stan for game of thrones. But then admitted that she can't say that sentence because she's not a fan of GOT.
salty means petty/bitter, not sad
and stan means fan
Save my tym thanks a lot
Hey buddy STAN mean craziest fan who follow everywhere around the world maybe they follow sun to moon star to earth
Or if you say A die hard fan now you get it - For example - I want be a stan of marian
I'd really like everyone that speaks English, speak like her. I can understand 98% of what she's saying.
Usually people don't speak like a UA-cam presentation. Watch my videos and I bet you'll understand me. In conversation, there is more phrasal verbs, ellipsis, cultural references, people talk quicker, idioms, slang, as well as different accents. She is someone who has learned English to a high standard but still makes mistakes and speaks like a non-native speaker. I've taught English for over 14 years and now even though I'm a native speaker, the English in my videos is non-comparable to natural English. To improve your listening skills, you must listen to natural English... align your listening content to your real-life situations.
@@winknatamontiwattanasug49 Bc of my vocabulary, sometimes I don't understand 1 word in the sentence...
Totally agree.... Her communication is really amazing
I live in London the place of slang if you are from London and England you would no. There is so much slang and just cutting half of words of like instead of alright we say aight and instead of something I say Saing
The way people speak in UA-cam, videos, news etc isn't how everyday people converse.
imagine when you say to your girlfriend "youre goat"
😂😂😂😂lol
And she slapped u😐
Right lmao
haha
Oooomaagoo🤣🤣 hilarious👌😂🤣

Hi army!! 😊
😄
Yesterday I saw a person like my teacher and I was like Hi…..in marina style and started talking. And I proudly say I learnt to speak with others without fear by watching her videos. I like the content and your attitude of conveying it. Idk how/why but your videos always put a smile on my face. Thank you marina. Love from India,Chennai.
Hello, Marina. Thanks for clarifying slang for us:). I am from Ukraine and I'm your absolute STAN! I knew many slang words that you were introducing to us in this video, but I misunderstood some of them, and now I know for sure. That's savage how all of these words can be used in the comments below, by UA-camrs or bloggers. So great, now we have some luggage of slang with us. Sending love;)
I'm dead: this video is lit. Watching this video low-key and it fits my schedule so far 😀
Be careful with slang. If you used any of those words in many part of the UK, you definitely would not be considered 'cool'. Slang is particular to areas, cultures, and age groups.
Excuse me!
In my view, i found nothing in this vid too funny for you to laugh that much hard cause it was just an English educational video.
Pls be alert while using these slangs
Very nice practice
please stop, i'm a native speaker and you sound like came straight out of 2016
@@EnglishforFOOTBALLFANS same in the US, this slang is outdated lol
i love the way you how you put some exemples from movies in little cut parts of movies, series tv shows and etc. That's lit for sure.

Started following you very recently, and I am freaking amazed by your videos. First thing I really like is the duration of the videos. Not too long. And you are just amazing, Marina. I'll say you are FIRE.
Linguamarina, this video is GUCCI! I am significantly fascinated by your teaching style.....your videos always help me to diversify my English vocabulary. Thank u for being a great teacher 💙
🧑: You're a goat (🐐)
👨: Thanks a lot for telling me greatest of all time 😌
no. It's "you are THE goat." (THE greatest of all time).
"You're a goat" is never used because you don't say "A greatest of all time."
😂😂😂
Hey Marina! A big thanks to you in this lockdown time I started watching your videos and my accent is changing day by day. My mom dad even told me that my accent is changed. This happen just because of you. You're just amazing!
This is so crazy Marina!
I hope you will keep making videos like this🔥
I love her work!!
Marina you literally slayyy💖
Hi Marina!! I've started watching your videos a few weeks ago. Believe it or not, they've helped me a lot to improve my English when it comes to grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary!! Yet I still have a lot more to learn and hope to improve my English as time passes by. I love learning while watching your lessons as they're absolutely amazing, they always make me wanna learn more and more. Tbh I think you're becoming my favourite teacher since your way of teaching motivates me and also makes it funnier. The effort you put in your videos is noticeable. Thank you so much and stay safe!! ♡
This video should be called, " How middle age parents can sound hip and cool to the younger generation.
These non-native speakers are trying to sound better but to any native speaker they just sound cringe.
@@marshmellowmoon7990 Lmao
Nah I'm in high-school and still don't know some of the meanings.
@@marshmellowmoon7990 I'm not native but I am fluent and I haven't seen mostly anyone use these slangs since the 2010s except older generations
As someone who don’t use social networks much generally encounter these words during normal conversations and gets confused.
thankyou please make more videos like this:)
thanks for your patient and usfel sharing of these GOAT videos and I trully found your channel is lit since all the videos give me insights on acquiring native and natural English.

Marina you are slaying this channel and imma become a stan of it ngl
28 year old American from California:
1. Lit can also be used as a joking way to say "great".
2. Goat is used all the time
3. I've never heard of snatched
4. on fleek is a joking way to saying on point. don't use this in a serious/neutral context
5. salty is very common
6. no one says "fit' as an outfit. Just say "outfit"
7. dead is used like "I'm dead 😂" to describe something really funny. very common
8. 'fire' is commonly used. you could also use 🔥 if its in text
9. low-key is very common. "I want to keep this party low-key"
10. I never hear "high-key". I don't recommend saying this
11. shady is very common
12. savage is common
13. shook is common
14. slay is common but its more used in a joking/light hearted way.
15. stan, I haven't heard this one before.
Just my 2 cents. Everyone speaks differently!
hi, she said in the video, This Party was fire. is that correct?
@@michelleangel2559 Yeah you can definitely say this!
Yeah, the word "high key" is low-key weird
I think Stan refers to a group or clone. I used to listen to a K-pop group called BTS. And the fans introducing themselves as Stan e.g- ARMY Stan.
as a 15 year old your slang is outdated-
Salty can also mean to be or the action of being bitter towards someone or something, but I also love the ways that you explain my primary language to all of your viewers. Honestly I just watch them for fun and I like to see non natives interpretations of the English language specifically in English.
Hey Marina!!
This channel is GOAT !!!

Your video is LIT. I am thinking your channel is GOAT.
I always watch your videos it really helps me a lot that's why I really respect you wholeheartedly
Your videos are fire, Yes, you're really a English GOAT.
I’m an American and I just wanted to make a quick correction about GOAT:
You would say, “Marina, this video is the GOAT” instead of “Marina, this video is GOAT”. You have to have the “the”.
Yeah, this is because of the superlative degree(greatest).
Am i right??
And you wouldn't normally say it about objects such as videos you would normally say it about people for example "Kobe Bryant the goat" and it's okay to omit the "is" in this case because using ebonics sounds more natural.
Asu asu :0
you could also say "this video is goated"
