I feel like this movie was a setup for a tv series spin off. Like every episode would be a new island with new people who need help from Moana and her plucky friends, with Maui doing his own B plot somewhere else, likely involving hayhay and being voiced by someone who doesnt sound close enough to Dwayne Johnson.
I feel one of the major reasons why Disney movies now are failing is the lack of experience from new writers brought in. I’m not saying they can’t write good stories though
It feels like there are just way too many plot lines and characters for this film to handle. Even when the next film comes out we still have to establish this Oceanic Pantheon that for some reason Maui has never talked about. It also just feels a little disheartening that Moana is being pimped out so heavily despite it barely being a decade old
So let me guess on the bad sequel Bad medicore antagonists who weren't Disney Like Retcon some of the story Moana becomes a goddess for some reason Without Lin Manuel who made the Moana and Encanto soundtrack the songs are bad or good but no great Never developed the characters
it was one of the major advertizing points but fair enough if you simply did not care enough to pay attention (i didn't either but was bombarded by too many ads to not pick anything up from them)
Business Bros are killing Disney. Honestly, though, it's never been a great company. They've always treated their employees like crap and cared more about money than human efforts and labor. Disney is literally built on pain and suffering but with really good PR and that Disney magic that keeps people going back for more. When Pixar finally folded and merged with them, I was so incredibly sad. They had been after Pixar for years and every time Pixar refused to be bought by them, I rejoiced! I was genuinely sad the day I heard Disney and Pixar merged.
I only went to watch it because someone I know and I'm very close to wanted to watch it for their birthday celebration. I am not happy at the fact that they added far too many threads to do anything with, and the return of the shark head wasn't even that funny...
OK yeah, but I wouldn't call this movie bad either. I don't need each movie to have character arcs or huge struggles. I simply enjoyed the ride. It was a simple nice ride. I also quite enjoyed the songs. They aren't LMM quality, but they aren't bad either. I 100% agree with all of your issues with Moana 2, but I don't think they are enough to make this movie terrible. A terrible movie is a boring slog, with badly written character and broken logic. Car 2 is a terrible movie, Ralph Breaks The Internet is a terrible movie. Moana 2 doesn't ruin the previous movie. I wasn't bored watching it. It was a perfectly acceptable decent movie I'll give a 6/10 to for just being fun. But if your anger at the movie comes from the fact that a sequel to Moana deserved better than this, yeah I can understand it. I just don't think the movie, in by itself, is terrible (not even bad).
I can see where you're coming from but honestly, my key issue with Moana 2 is that it feels pointless and fails to justify it's own existence both as a sequel and as a standalone movie. I feel that it's terrible because watching it just felt like a waste of time.
@stuartbarron7117 So what I think you really mean is that Moana 2 isn't a terrible film, but more so that the situation is terrible. Like, it's terrible how pointless and unjustified this film is. But ask yourself this: did you actually suffer watching this film? Did you get angry from how the characters were written? Did you get bored? If the answer is yes then fine. But for me it's a no. I had some fun.
@@roiitzkovich4545 No, I still gotta say it's terrible. I admit I didn't have any excessively negative emotions while watching but I'd argue that makes it even worse. I'd rather have a film be painful than make me feel nothing at all. Art is meant to provoke an emotional response and the worst thing it can do in my opinion is fail to do that in any capacity. If you liked it though, fair enough.
@stuartbarron7117 A boring movie can only be considered worthless if it was a snooze-fest the whole way through. Moana 2 wasn't that for me. I remember watching Lady Bird because I heard from others it was good. Sorry if I'm being controversial here, but I couldn't stand that movie. While the ending definitely hit, the rest of the movie was a buncha filler events that bored the hell outta me. I couldn't stand it. I constantly checked the timer every 10 or so minutes. THAT'S a worthless movie (aside from the ending). A movie that doesn't make me feel much, but is at least fun and not boring can't be worthless (certainly not terrible). But if you were bored with it then fine.
One major difference is that Zootopia 2 was planned to be a theatrical release from the start. Which heightens my expectations and hopes that this sequel might succeed and carry over old and new themes to the Zootopia universe.
If only they let it be a series maybe it would have had a chance

You're not far off.
@@stuartbarron7117There going in Moana is like their Spider into the Spider-Verse legacy.
As it was, we didn't know about the sequel until 10 months before its release. Once again they chose the corporate decision over the creative decision
The biggest thing I learned from this video is that Taylor Swift was in Cats...

That's a fair point.
