It totally makes sense to charge more, when you have created a name four yourself and when you get inquiries, have a decent following on social media even.. But when you do not have that, and never get any inquiries, then any opportunity you have, you just take the job, as the potential client will find someone else do the job, it's better 200 bucks, than no bucks at all:)) But thank you so much for spreading the word! The more people will start charging their worth, the more people will actually start to take design work more seriously. And thanks for your amazing videos, always learn a ton from them, not to mention how entertaining and binge worthy they are!:))
I’m feeling a mindset shift in how to ramp up the work I want to do outside my day job in corporate design/production, based on what you said at the end - make money to design, not design to make money. Brilliant insight!
Great vid, Will! You're right on, man. Using these same principles helped me and my wife get our largest contract thus far this year! Also, a couple of years ago, these same principles helped me go from $40 an hour for graphic design to $4k for a single logo project. Basically, rock on, man. Thanks for breaking down the barriers for the community.
Thank you so much Will for bringing this up even though you covered in your previous videos but thank you more clarity. Much appreciation. Hot take on value based pricing: Client- Why is the price that high, its expensive..............my response would be "its because of the risk associated with work, because you are going to use it in establishing your brand so it has to be valuable to the audience as well".
Will, this was a nice follow-up to the 4 week Logo challenge. I hope this helps fellow artists to figure out how to price their work. I am retired & keep tossing around the idea to do some freelance to increase my budget. I think I will do some passion projects & see if I could update my portfolio. Thanks for all the great videos. hUgz from Ohio
Such great advice for every aspiring artist/designer. Thank you. And it’s not only beneficial to them but also more senior designers out there, because this fear of charging more (for all the reasons you mentioned, plus society notoriously not taking this craft seriously) could very much result in a race to the bottom. And that’s the last thing we want to happen! Artists/Designers need to be compensated fairly and lessons like this are crucial to getting there. 🙏🏼
I just started graphic designing and guys trust me i nailed it like I'm happy that i learned too much in few days Now I'm in search of clients and trying to fix a decent pricing Gonna buy PS5 this year
Thank you so much for making this video! I know after the Logo series that was a common theme you were telling us so I appreciate it. (Also thank you for showing my posters in this video 😅)
What if you want to be very open to your customers. And you make your service + price directly visible. I think this has a lot of benefit. But on the other hand if a huge company contacts you, you need to stick to the price as well?
Thank you so much boss, I had a case with a client, the client complain I did not give any notice before increasing my price, so I had to return to my previous price before the increase in price, my Qs: do we need to give notice before increasing our price. Thanks
Just from experience, really - I could maybe do a cool logo in 5 minutes, but I couldn't create a complete brand identity and finalised logo suitable for a paying client in 5 mins..
This was helpful and the series was a great way to not only get practice briefs but to also get a sneak peak into current designer pricing. I learned a lot. I am interested in learning more about creating custom logo type, where do I find this information?
Great video @willpatersondesign . Would love to see a video (or hear your thoughts on) how to still get clients among the new free “AI logo design” trend. Lately some people who would have been prospective clients figured out they could just do free AI logos and cover album art (which I do as well). Makes it hard to compete with that. Any tips? Cheers 🙏👍
Amazing tips, just subscribe. I just completed a Masters in Creative Direction, Content, & Branding. Can you do a video about what to post on your first portfolio. I feel like mine is overwhelming because I have a lot of design from Graphic Design, copywriting, and video editing. I want to focus on creating 3 different portfolios but It's not quite clear what to include on each. Do you have a Behance account.
5:28 but what if I like doing and designing different things logos visuals posters or other differnets things shouldn't I put all these different work in one place?
Hope you get some value out of this video :)

After seeing your episodes of Logo battles I started to charge more and think bigger. I think that a lot of creators should see your content 👍
Great video , we would love more like this one 😊
More to come!
Great message Will, appreciate it. Commenting for the algorithm 😉😛
Legend!

Thank you will

How can you calculate the time required for work if it is creative work? You can draw a cool logo in five minutes, or you can draw it in five hours.

Will reddit videos make a comeback?
Yes! In a more exciting format :)

There's already millions of graphic designers, its just too much offer vs demand. Its as simple as that.
But how many (out of a 100) are actually talented?
It's the same with coding.
Passion goes a long way ❤️

Yeah, your work represents you. You don't have to specialize in only one thing. Show what you can do! 😁
