- How to Change Spark Plugs on Honda GoldWing GL1800 (Models 2001-2017). Here is a link to the Spark Plugs Purchased for my Bike I found on Amazon. www.amazon.com...
It is a simple job of about 30-45 minutes and is easily doable for the novice mechanic/Wrencher. you will need a 6mm Allen Wrench, a Spark Plug Socket (5/8'), a Socket Wrench with Extension as well. The spark plug gap should be 0.039 to 0.043 in.
Torque specs for the spark plugs is 13ft/lbs.
. Check your manual for the recommended Interval Change Mileage. Most Bikes can go much longer than recommenced Spark Plug Change. As always, thank you for Watching MemphisMike and hope you enjoy the video with myself and "Dano"!

Thanks so much you saved me 150$ and 4 days of downtime. Also Uber both ways to and from Honda dealership. My plugs cost 6$ a piece from Amazon. Couldn't find them cheaper locally. Again thanks guys
Glad to hear that!
Thanks MM! As usual, no BS, just the facts. Appreciate the video and the tips. Nice delivery.
Thanks Tom....thats all i know buddy...just be real and show it buddy! thank you for your support
I use Irridium spark plugs because of the accelleration I get and cleaner more effecient fuel burn I get.
Great video Mike.
Another great video Mike. Thanks for sharing.
thank you sir!
The honda hat is rockin
Fox racing Honda HRC
Something I won't do without is the Harbor freight drive on lift (300 bucks), I also put a HF wheel chock on it so I usually just ride right on it and get off the bike, no straps needed.
You should always use anti-seize when you have a steel plug and aluminum head.
It looks like your house sits about 10 feet higher than your neighbors? (when looking out the garage door)
Great video once again Mike. Thanks
Thanks Top Dog!
MemphisMike Thanks for the FUN video you guys make me laugh. I do mine at 24K still look okay just the gap has increased. Like the red Honda hat Dano! Ride Safe Brother.
Thanks love the hat MM tries to steal my good fox racing Honda items lol
😃
Loved it Mike
Very informative video MemphisMike!
Thanks Qbal...all we needed was a slab of ribs from your smoker buddy!
Thank you, try it and yes got plug off, thought was doing something wrong with the plugs. Honda dealership sold me DPR6EA -9. these are for gl1500 not gl1800
Oops
Thanks for the video and will get right ones tomorrow
Nice job
Good vid MM and Dano. I've done mine at least 4 times on my 04 and find you're on the money. I'd like to see you tackle an air filter(maybe I missed it). Did it once using a shop manual and found it to be a pain in the butt. I got lazy last time and got a dealer to do it but the mech bragging he could do it under 2 hours left a bit of a messy job. Haven't found a good vid on it yet.
Dano has changed my air filter. I still have footage somewhere. It was so much got over whelmed with editing!
3/4 then 1/8 tigthen
The plugs look good. It would be more than a two beer job for me
I got a fridge in garage. Easily could be a 6 pk
Job 😂
I like harbor freight too brother, don’t forget to set the gap in those plugs!!😎👍🏻🇺🇸
Yep...we checked before we did the install! all except one were dead on!
Rob i set gaps in new plugs before we ever started vid
Dang don't let nothing slip by! 🤣
MemphisMike awesome video brother!!! I know you would have gapped those plugs, buddy but I have to give ya a hard time😎😂
😂
Thank you
Great video Mike thanks! Hey keep those fingers sticky lol.
😂😂
I can't take him no where
Do you ever need to change the spark plug wires?
I never have in my bike or automobile
Great Info Mike! The Pit Bull jack, do you need an Adapter for it to lift the Goldwing? I have a jack similar to yours but it touches the small exhaust pipes that most people think is the Frame. Any Info is much appreciated. Thanks for sharing.
Yes and it comes with it
The lift has long enough rails where it sticks way past frame rails on each side
Great job-only how is the easiest way to get chrome valve covers off that has been put on with double sided tape. Been nice if you told what size spark plug socket. 20 minutes later tried to order from Amazon. Amazon said they do not fit my bike.
Hey there is a thing on all youtube videos called the DESCRIPTION! Maybe you should have read it? I will save you the time to go back tho. "It is a simple job of about 30-45 minutes and is easily doable for the novice mechanic/Wrencher. you will need a 6mm Allen Wrench, a Spark Plug Socket (5/8'), a Socket Wrench with Extension as well. Good job. I was noticing the foot warmers on your bike. Do you them, do they work? I’ve got a 2001 wing but was thinking about trading for a newer one with heated seats, grips & the foot warmers. Just wondering if and how well they worked.
Randy
You can feel a little motor heat from them. Heated seat/grips a MUST in my book!
Even thought the plugs are pre-gapped, shouldn't you check them anyways?
That was done before hand
I just put new Iridiums into my GL1800 sidecar (some of the sidecar bits make access to the left side harder). They might have been pregapped for some purpose, but not for a Goldwing. Specs are 1.0 - 1.1mm, the "pregapped plugs measured at 0.75mm. Good thing I checked.
I use Iridium because they last much longer, with the sidecar making access harder it's a sensible choice.
What is the Gap settings

Couldn't figure out why socket wouldn't go inside the sparky plug and that's why, they are to big.
Have guys done a video on bleeding the front/rear brakes?
I have not
@@MemphisMike901 maybe that could be your next video, lol
That's one thing haven't seen on here (UA-cam) bleeding brakes/clutch on Goldwing gl1800
Mike, as a gold wing man maybe you or the community had an issue with the brake lights staying on. My bike failed inspection because of it. Maybe it's something I can resolve before taking it in to a mechanic. Help!
Intersting. I have not had that issue before. Lemme know what u find
What model is that Pitbull jack?
Check the Pitbull site. Its the only version they make
pitbullmotorcyclelifts.com
Sticky fingers. He was talking about BBQ Sauce folks.😉
Next time your at Harbor Frieght, get yourself a sparkplug rubber puller,!!!
Nothing wrong with being a Harbor Freight junkie!
Im addicted!
Do you have to have a 3 foot extension to.
??
Who’s your daddy! Love the fly paper hangin up there too Mikey. Awwe Yeahh baby! Nice job there Team. Keep’m coming.
Road Glide never a dull moment around us.
What size is the socket?
5/8” i believe
You Rated this about a 2 beer job......Is that per person? Asking for a friend.
😂 but of course!!
I guess it does not matter what you say/do someone always puts a thumbs down??????
Man you aint kidding bro
I could post a vid rescuing a puppy dog and "someone" will give it a thumbs down!!
Magnetic plug socket, DanO‼️🤔
You see where we was working I went to Lowe's bought a crasftsman one after vid so he's got one now
I don't have a buddy like you do so I have to pay $80 for the oil change and I make a lunch date out of it with my wife. Are the plugs something different?
Man these things like Oil change/Final Drive Oil and Plugs can be done by anyone pretty much. All 3 of which I have done myself. You can save yourself a lot of $$ on these simple maintenance items. i will be the first to admit...I have NEVER been much of a "Wrench" myself. I have videos of all 3 of these maintenance items. I admit tho. A buddy like Dano' is great to have FIRST as a friend, and someone who has grown up Wrenching ALL his life.
Plugs Different as in?
Raphael were not friends his wife pays me well when she needs him out of the house
🤣🤣 HUSH....Young buck!
Hey.....and so does YOUR Wife. How do you think I paid for Smoked Wings and Mac'n Cheese!!!
Remind me to not turn my back on you and those sticky fingers next time we ride!!! Good video. I don't know when mine were last changed since I bought it with 27k miles on it. Probably need to look at it. I need to call you to see if you know anything about the fog lights. One of mine burnt out. Don't know what brand it is and if I can match it or have to buy 2 new ones.
LOL.....what fog lights you have? man i can come get it and get the plugs change for you while you recovering bud!
Doing my pr-trip this morning I noticed I have a fog light out also. Really bummed me out. Low beam out only the turn signal still works and the high-beam works. They are Tridium LED Fog/Running/Driving Light By Show Chrome. Order Date: June 09, 2017...That's way to fast for almost $300!!! What do you guys think ?
@@chuckv8212 no way that should happen that quick. Have you contacted Show Chrome about it?
@@MemphisMike901 No, but I called Dennis & Kirk where I purchased them and they said call me back. I called at 10:50A.M. this morning. I'll let you know how long it takes them to get back to me and resolve this problem. This should be interesting!
Please do
Great video. Would like to contact you by telephone or email. I have a questions for you about your trunk lid and rack on your Gl1800. Could you advise. Keep up the good videos, very helpful.
