I have to say it’s so validating to hear such an incredibly strong figure like Nicola is also wary of the deeper ocean. It’s definitely a fear I hold with a bit of shame but now I honestly feel sooo much better.

@@Taliavana she mixed sleeping pills and alcohol accidently too much back in 2016, her heart stopped, i think thats when she stopped

Nicola is one of my favorites ❤ she's so pretty, genuine, and kind.
I hope to see more videos of Nicola. She is so cool and strong. She reminds me of Xena the Warrior Princess who happens to be an Australian also. I have been binge watching Bondi Rescue for days now. Jethro and Harries got me hooked, they are funny. But I love the whole team as well.

Even just 3 days ago I experienced some pretty bad rips and was getting tired from the super frequent and huge waves. I followed my training(not lifeguard, but given general training to be one) and swam horizontal out of the rip and rode the waves back in.
But oh man, as I stared at the shore getting farther away, after battling the rip a bit before realizing it was a rip, and sitting there catching my breath, I have to admit I almost panicked. I was not in my best shape, being lax during Covid has taken a lot of my muscle mass. There were no lifeguards on that strip of the beach, and my buddy would never have been able to help me either.
It was hard to fight the panic rising in my throat and put my game face on to get out and make sure my friend didn’t suffer the same fate. I managed to get us both out safely, and we took that day off of swimming. I did watch the beach a bit to make sure no one else got caught in them, but left when a group of really great swimmers and some surfers showed up.
Two of the most badass lifeguards being afraid of diving under a boat is making me feel a bit human again. Seriously though, Nicola deserves no flack for the first one. She payed attention to something no senior lifeguard really payed mind to. Good on her.
I was just watching the one with Jules and I was thinking they should do one about Nic then like 10 minutes later this gets posted 😂

@@addisonekis She had a few personal problems, which led to being ill with sleeping pills and drink. She's not on Bondi Rescue anymore, but hopefully still surfing hard.

Love this! When I was a teen my dad would anchor his sailboat off the coast of Lake Huron so he, my brother & I could swim. We'd dive under the keel in our masks & fins to look for fish but even though it was fresh water I'd occasionally trip myself out w/thoughts of 🦈 s 😅.
I've only recently begun watching these videos but I ❤ them. This one in particular I find very cool. Nicola having a healthy fear of the ocean - but also being a badass guard - confirms something for me personally I've been contemplating all summer:
I'm gonna follow the dream I had back then of becoming a lifeguard myself. I'm 53 now & late to the game but I work out & swim regularly & I'm in great shape physically & a strong swimmer. Me & water go waaay back. The crew at the pool I frequent gave me a few informal tests recently & I surprised myself by doing very well... surprised some of them too.😊
I have no certification but have to say I was taught by the best: Dad taught scuba at the YMCA & Mom taught swimming. I learned all I needed to know on family camping & dive weekends on the lake. I was usually the "kid guard," tasked w/keeping an eye on the other kids.
(Mom & Dad tossed me into the deep end of the Y when I was barely walking....& found out very quickly that I float like driftwood & play like an orca.)

i just wanna know how they get their wetsuits on so fast? like it takes me minimum 20 minutes to get my steamer on
I know right!? I have a custom made wetsuit and it i still need at least 10 minutes to get it one, especially when it's super hot and I'm sweating. A tip is to use baby powder and rub it over your body before putting the wetsuit on. It makes it so much easier and it goes really smooth. Also having socks on your feet helps and just take the socks of when your done doning.

This show shows the world how foreigners think & how little they know about our massive island & our beaches. We as Aussie know thru our blood but also our way of life teaches us how our beaches work. But foreigners think oh it's Bondi or Coogee or Manly beach I've seen this on telly so i know how Aussie beaches work. Yeah nah mate soz but u don't. Learn about our country, not just about our murderous wildlife 🙄 but our waterways & maybe a bit of English too. The lifeguards shouldn't have to learn all the different languages on the planet, in our country we speak English & Aussie-English at that, so show a tad of respect & learn some Strayan/English, learn about how our country works & it's general laws & learn about our waterways aswell as learn how to swim & watch out for our murderous wildlife coz it'll save ur life whether ur at the beach or in the outback, stay safe mates
