Generally it is not recommended to apply any moisture to the suede side. Recently I cleaned some tired, old suede shoes with what is effectively one of those pink erasers, and a little brush. An old toothbrush would work just fine. You could sprinkle some baking powder on any dirt stains, let it sit for 15 minutes, lightly brush with your eraser or brush.
