If it's dead completely above the graft then get a new tree or graft a new top to it.
The green part is rootstock.
Is that good or bad? I was told I should just take it out by someone with a greener thumb.
Get a knife and scrape the trunk if it's brown it's dead if it's green trim it to where it's green
Thanks, I did that and was basically left with a stump but the new growth is at about what it was before
It looks like trifoliate rootstock.
After googling that, I should probably not keep the tree. Or should I?
@@victorgarciatv up to you. You can graft on it. I bought one because I was curious because it’s very cold hardy. If you need the space, you can take it out. Otherwise why not keep it and see. It’s VERY thorny. Just FYI.
