Chicken House Upgrades! Installing Turbo Mate 2 Feeders | Let's See How We Like Them!

  • We have been working with our friends over at Sephnos, and we are trying out a house of the Turbo Mate 2 feeders. Several flocks ago we started using the Turbo Grow 2 feeders. We really like them and think they have really helped conserve feed. With the Turbo Mate 2 feeder, it has a somewhat similar concept, but it actually attaches to the feed line. In this video we go through and install the feeders and get that house ready for baby chickens.
    We will be doing an update on these feeders once we have used them for an entire flock and see how they work out.
    I have linked the Turbo Mate 2 below.

    My grandparents, who made most of their living from three wooden chicken houses in NW AL in the 1950s and 1960s, would probably be amazed if they could see how things have evolved in the business. They got at least some, if not all, of the water for their chickens by pumping it up from a spring in an adjacent hollow.

      I'm sure they would. I have been in the business nearly 7 years. I hear stories from time to time about people raising chickens back in the 50's and 60's. It's crazy how much things have changed and how automated things are now. People back then had to do a lot more manual labor!

    Like the turbomates. Looks like they'll save a lot if time and I like that they dump all the litter out once you flip them up. That'll save time on the next set up. 👍🏻

    Use a spring clamp to attach yellow to orange fence. You can easily disengage the connection when ready.

      It's hard to say. The Turbo Mate 2 feeders are only in one of my houses. I have 4 total. I can't say if it has improved weights, mortality etc but it has not hurt it at all. It has cut down on labor.

    We have to use brood boards for our fence until we turn out. To eliminate the draft down low. Then switch to regular fence once the migrate.

      It's really hard to say. I only have them in one house right now and I have 4 total houses. I feel like they do a lot better job keeping the birds from wasting feed. Hey! So far we have been very pleased with them. They are very easy to use and to flip up. I was worried they may not flip up with the feed line all the way down but they do with no problem. They also have holes in the tops so any remaining feed or litter falls out when you flip them up which is nice. The only thing I have run into is some of the slides to close off the feed have gotten a little harder to slide. There is probably some feed built up in it. It is very minor and can probably be blown out or something like that. It really isn't an issue. Overall we really like them!

    How do you like your Roxell feeders?

    • @FarmerHunt
      @FarmerHunt  Рік тому

      I like them a lot. I usually leave them in flood for about 12-14 days and then raise them up. After about a week or so the birds are too big to get in them which is nice. Helps cut down on the birds scratching feed out on the ground.

    What is the reason for the fence? And why only 5 weeks I thought it was 8 weeks?

    • @FarmerHunt
      @FarmerHunt  3 роки тому +2

      The fence just helps keep the birds evenly distributed throughout the house. Sometimes when the fans are running the birds tend to move away from the fans but if you put up fences it helps keep the birds from overcrowding in areas.
      Some people keep their birds 8 weeks but we grow a small bird (under 4 lbs) so we only keep them 5 weeks.

      @@FarmerHunt I would love to see a video on the rolling process. Nobody around here does that I know of. We window a lot here. We use paper trays. One under each spout and one in front of each feed pan. We grow a 49-53 day bird. 6.75 to 7.50 lbs. We grow 700's which as a rule come in to the world looking for a way to die. I have a friend that just got the turbos about 4 flocks ago. They leave theirs down 11 days before picking up and he said they have seen a really nice increase in weight with no adverse affect to feed conversion. Always love to share ideas with other poultry growers.

      We have a video on rolling littler thats back from about a year ago. Its just called Windrowing Chicken Litter. We were putting down trays under spouts and an extra tray. We went to the turbo grows about 4-5 flocks ago and really like them. We usually have them picked up by day 9 or 10. I think they have really helped us and keep us from wasting feed.
      So far we like the Turbo Mate 2 feeders. We'll be selling our chickens next week so we can see how the house with those does compared to the others. Thanks for the info. How do you like the paper trays? When we put down trays we always used the red plastic ones.

      @@FarmerHunt I'll check that video out. We like the red plastic trays better but I am a one man operation and we have 7 houses and a restaurant so we use paper for convenience. If I am good about picking them up I can get two growouts out of them. We are really thinking about going to turbos. We have folks that are using them that have improved on both weight and feed conversion. We are in a highly competitive complex so every point counts.
