    I’m curious as to why you need to put that black sleeve in place of the drop? All we did was took the extension piece off the drop and just let it go inside the feeder. I’d be worried if the lines were too high you’d end up spilling feed. We did turbo feeders earlier this year and it’s been a great investment. The major plus is that we can keep feed on.

    • @FarmerHunt
      @FarmerHunt 2 роки тому +1

      The main reason we swapped to turbo feeders is because so many of our spouts were breaking. The black sleeves came with the feeders so we went ahead and used them.
      We did use some spouts in one house. Our feedlines are so low when our pans are collapsed that we ended up taking a hacksaw and sawed off part of the spout even after removing the sleeve. They still don’t do a real good job filling up the feeder though. I guess depending on the feed pan you have it may work better for some people.

      @@FarmerHunt We didn't get the black sleeves with ours. I feel gyped. 😂 Actually I'm not about to go back a replace them all anyway. I've not had any issues with the feeders filling up mainly because I don't really care if they are full to the top. Feed is on so there is constantly feed in them. I'm just super excited to not run feed 2-3 times a day. We would turn the lights out to feed and when you have babies that extra 1-2 hours of dark a day just to run feed makes a difference. I like the turbofeeders a lot so far. It takes the kids and I about 10 minutes per house to put them out or take them up so not bad for labor.

    First time I've seen a rotem inside the house, if you have tunnel houses does it affect your static pressure? Our rotem's are in the control rooms. As far as the trays I wish it was cardboard trays, put them down and throw them away no washing. But Sanderson farms has to be their way of doing things.

    • @FarmerHunt
      @FarmerHunt Рік тому

      I have only worked in houses that have the controllers inside the house so I don't really know what to compare it to. We don't have any issues with our static though. Occasionally if it's real windy our static may bounce around some but with the parameters of the controller it doesn't affect anything.
      We really like the cardboard trays. Maybe one day Sanderson will get on board.

    I’m a grower in North Carolina. My integrator made us switch to turbo growers back in the spring. They seem to help on feed conversion but if all the farms your “competing” against have them only person it benefits is the integrator.

    • @FarmerHunt
      @FarmerHunt 3 роки тому

      We haven’t been required to switch yet. I’m sure when that happens it’ll be just like you’re saying, the integrator will be the one that benefits. In the mean time, I’m hoping to have a little edge over some of the growers until everybody has them.

    I just retrofit my houses to full house brood in the warmer months, putting in chickmates between every other pan. Something tells me that in a few years I’ll be swapping to turbo feeders.

    • @FarmerHunt
      @FarmerHunt 3 роки тому

      They are nice. The eliminate washing feed trays and also cut down on some waste (Especially if you don't monitor your feed closely). The main reason I switched is my chickmates are pretty old and started breaking. I was going to have to replace a bunch so I decided to try the turbo feeders. So far I like them though.

I can see what’s going on and make any changes to fans, vents, etc.

      @@FarmerHunt we grow for Tyson, we are growing the Cobb 700. Let me rephrase, we are trying to grow the Cobb 700. Nobody is having much luck. They come in to the world looking for a way to die. I have thought about going with one of the turbo style feeders. How many days do you leave them down and how old a bird do you grow? Did the spray insulation help much. Was glad to find your channel, not many contract growers on here. Always good to learn from a fellow grower.

      😂😂 I know the feeling! Somedays I feel like i'm just barely hanging on.
      This is my second flock with the turbo feeders and so far I have no complaints. My first flock I was able to start my birds out in full house because it was fairly warm. I left my slides open for 9 days. I think I kept too much feed out in my pans during the cleanup time because it took about 4-5 days for the turbos to be fully cleaned up. For my second flock, I closed up my slides on day 5 and turned my birds out on day 7. By day 7 most of the turbo feeders were empty. For the next flock I think I will close my slides day 6, turn out day 7 and pick up turbos on day 8 once I have my birds spread through the whole house. We grow about a 4 lb 35 day old bird. What age/size bird do you grow?
      I really like the insulation. In my opinion, being able to pull air in the right spots and at a good static is very important. My houses were built in the 90s and prior to the insulation, they just did not ventilate well anymore. Thanks for checking out our videos. We are just learning on a lot of things as we go but hopefully as we learn we can share that with others.

      @@FarmerHunt we grow a 49 to 56 day bird depending on the market. In years past I grew a 10 week bird, all roosters. That was back in the "feed them all the antibiotics you can days" we have sold with average weights in the 9.75 to 10 lbs range. We would sell on a Sunday night and put back in on Thursday and we where making a killing. Lots has changed now. We have to sit out a minimum of 12 days because of animal welfare. Curious if you noticed an improvement in your feed conversion. And did the switch save you labor?

    • @FarmerHunt
      @FarmerHunt 2 роки тому

      I think we have seen an improvement on feed conversion. In the past if we had big birds we were usually competitive with feed, but if our birds were small we rarely could compete on feed. Now we are typically competitive with both.
      I don’t know that it saves much labor on the actual putting down and taking them up. It may actually take a little longer. I think it does save time and money though because we don’t have to wash them. All in all I recommend them.

    Love the video. I was wondering if you knew about the Turbomate 2? If you did then why did you chose these over the Turbomate 2? Reason for asking is because I'd like replace my farm with the Turbomate 2 but if these are more convenient then I'd rather go for these instead.

    • @FarmerHunt
      @FarmerHunt 3 роки тому +1

      Thank you! We looked at the turbomate 2 and liked the idea. My main concern was adding that much to our feedlines, and also we were concerned about them breaking over time and turning into a problem. Seemed like they might be great for a year or two and then start leading to problems.That is just completely a guess on our part though. I like the turbo grow 2 that we got, but it does require some labor between picking them up and storing them. I think the turbo grow 2 will last for many years though.
