- I need to KEEP CHICKENS OUT OF THE GARDEN! Let me show you what I do to keep the ladies out of the garden!
Hi, I'm Matt & together with my wife, Sara, our 4 kids, 2 dogs, 20,000 bees and too many chickens to count we have been developing our homesteading lifestyle. Today I am clipping our older chickens' wings in order to keep them out of the garden. I am also putting up a fence to keep these chickens out of the garden.
We support our dream by working from home running our laser engraving business.

I always clip my chickens flight feathers because the coop roof is high and has exposed beams so they like to roost in the roof which is kind of cute, but some of our birds are quite big so they’re at risk of bumble foot…
Plus my neighbours seem to love to give us their chickens 😆 so we have to keep them clipped so they don’t go back over to their old homes before they realise they live here now.
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 that’s funny 😄
I love the way you teach your kids 👍
And your chickens are pretty.
Thanks! We hope one day they grow up with the knowledge and abilities to take care of themselves. 💚
HA HA ! The ones that got clipped a staring at your garden . LOL
😂Yes!!
Ive heard its best just to clip one side, it makes them unbalanced so they tumble
You are absolutely right I used to do one side but they still will get out so now I always do both since I have the chicken in my hands might as well do both wings rather than come back and do the other one at a different time
Interesting, I may have to clip my birds soon so Ill bear that in mind@@mattsara2802
looks good!!!
Thanks! We love our chickens but also would like the garden food for ourselves! 💚
How often do you have to clip their wings?
Once they are one year old one time. But I do it when they start to fly then one more time next spring if needed then that is it. 😃
