      This is the same thing you see at a physical store but it’s online. But you see when you’re at a Walmart line or any store there’s items next to the checkout line like gym or batteries. Well it’s the same thing to make you buy more while you wait in line to pay. No different. The reason y’all mad for online because there’s offers not sweet enough. I bet a good offer will make you buy even if you didn’t come for it.

      It's a tricky thing. I think if you do it from a place of value, it can change the game for you. If you just do it for the money, I agree with you. Let's say you provide someone with a book on how to train your dog, and you upsell group coaching or 1/1 coaching, I don't think it's a bad experience. As long as you come from a place of value and customer-first mentality. What do you think?

      I do not see a problem with this method if you actually deliver what you are promising. The problem arises when you lure someone in with a FREE book, only to upsell something that makes the book useless unless I buy all the additional items in the funnel to get the full information.

If I want something free there is no way I will buy hundreds of dollars of supplementary stuff plus it feels like harassment. The mockups they put their books or DVD on are all the same and just makes me close the page when I see that. These people you tak about are stars. Huge influencers. • @sirwooley
      @sirwooley 10 місяців тому +16

      Correct, but that's because you're not the customer. If you're watching this video, you're not the person that they are marketing to. There's a funny psychological thing going on. No one likes being sold to, but everybody loves to buy things. When they market their product like this they are completely bypassing the sales resistance of the customer because the buyer is really getting the product "for free". After their guard is down selling something to someone gets much, much easier. Does it fool everyone? Not at all. But it's surprisingly effective.
      One of my first jobs I ever worked was at an amusement park, in a carnival style game called Basket Toss. You would tahrow a softball into a basket and win a prize if it stayed in. You could buy 3 balls for $5, or you could buy 7 balls for $10. While guests would want to play, they always bought the 3 balls for $5 despite the 7 for 10 being the better deal. Of course, just like any carnie game it's designed to look easy but it's much more complex and requires a specific strategy to win. After they lost, I would call them close and say "hey, I'm not really supposed to do this but, I'll give you 4 balls for $5 if you wanna try one more time." It worked all the time, because people loved feeling like they were getting a really good deal. Only 1 in maybe 100 would say, "that's just the same deal as the 7 for $10". They were caught up in the joy of risk, the feeling like they were getting cut in on a bargain, and their eyes on the huge prizes they could win that were SURELY worth the extra $5 they would spend. Here's the kicker, though. Even if they won (they were relatively large prizes), the prizes they won cost the company about .83 cents on average. The house always wins, as they say. I can almost guarantee that even at the $10 for "shipping and handling" on the book, they are making a profit.

    I tried to follow this explanation of how to 4X+ book sales, but in my own case I would never agree to buy additional items appearing sequentially on the order page, so I don't know why anyone else would either. Once I ordered a financial book offered Free on a tv finance channel commercial. Then I had to go through a similar whole sequence of declining to purchase related products and advisory subscriptions. Those bothersome email offers continued for many months. I can see where the company would have made millions from other hopeful (or gullible) book customers, but not from me!

    Most brick and mortar retailers and restaurants have been using this technique for years. They may start out with a coupon for an item or service. But they usually offer an additional product or service as an up sale before the customer leaves the establishment.
    As long as it’s not too pushy, the up sale complements the initial purchase and it’s something that can truly benefit and bring value to the customer, this can be a win for both the buyer and the seller. Thanks for sharing.🙏

And even though that they have those deals they have to run ads to get new clients in to their database so it cost you money to do that. Sometimes a lot of money. Don't forget they also have massive mailing lists so it's no problem for them

    Clearly an unpopular opinion (based the comments), but I TRULY don't get how it's "scammy". If you just want the book, or whatever free or low cost offer then ONLY get that. If you want something from the order bump, then add that. Really simple. I've NEVER "accidentally" purchased an order bump offer I didn't intend to buy. And there have been many times, I just got the free/low cost item and went on my way. As long as nothing is misleading it seems fine.
    It's about as scammy as going to the store for a hat, and then seeing some shoes and a scarf you like to and getting those. (Whether a salesperson suggests you look at the extra items or not, to keep the analogy going lol). NO one is forcing you to buy any of those items, much less any order bumps/add-ons.
    An example of a scam is someone saying their e-book is $5 but it actually is charged as $10 on your card or something. Or they promise you something and intentionally don't deliver it, etc. Being mildly, or highly, annoyed by a sales offer does NOT make it a scam.

If the average entrepreneur, were to take the steps outlined in this video, they would not muster the same or near similar success, simply because these types of strategies ordinarily work when there is a good sized audience to market to, or with a extensive marketing plan with the budget to match. It's usually when you have failed to make sales that people resort to such tactics. That's just sales 101. If you have the money for it you pay if you're broke you complain and you don't buy. • @fabiennehansen
      @fabiennehansen  2 місяці тому

      Absolutely, Victoria. This is an advanced system, nothing I would recommend for beginners.
      It all starts with creating a book that solves a problem someone is willing to pay for. The easiest way though is to describe your book idea and send customers a stripe link. If they buy, that way, you know if people actually buy it before you create it! Saves you tons of money and time. And if it doesn't, you only change the wording in your email or landing page instead of the whole product. Hope this makes sense ❤️

    Okay, got a question, how does a sales funnel work if you are a fiction author? You've written a novel, sure you can offer an audiobook version, a printed version and a kindle/epub version but there is no upsell if you've written a novel. I appreciate you could develop a story writing course but that has nothing to do with the product you're trying to sell. Also over in the UK where I live, there seems to be a genuine hatred of sales funnels. Me included, The thought of more and more expensive items as you go through the funnel, with a "wait, don't click away, here's 10% off this offer by clicking here" screams desperation, hence why I and many people avoid them like the plague. I'm afraid I just don't get it, advice would be appreciated.

    • @fabiennehansen
      @fabiennehansen  6 місяців тому +1

      Totally depends on how you want to serve your ideal customer.
      If you want to sell fiction books, you can upsell to a fiction book bundle.
      Or a private book club.
      But if you want to teach how to write, I don't think you should lead with a fiction free book if that makes sense.
      It might be better to lead with a book about how to write a fiction book.
      Have you checked out my Niche Masterclass? Might be helpful ❤

    Hi, interesting presentation, the math makes sense, however I see a question. Amazon does not allow you to undercut them on any other site including your own. So how do these famous names get around selling or giving away their book on their own site? Why are they not banned by Amazon? Of course if they are in KDP Select they cannot sell the product anywhere else at all, but that is admittedly for an ebook. So how can they get around Amazon not terminating their account? Funnels usually make people run for the hills I think.

    • @fabiennehansen
      @fabiennehansen  Місяць тому

      They either self-publish through a different platform, or you can get author copies through Amazon KDP. You'd have to store inventory with this funnel, unfortunately.

  • @sharriburggraaf5004

    I view funnels as taking advantage of a potential customer instead of just selling things honestly. It's like tricking the customer and luring them into buying from you like a sneaky sales person. Yes They nay get the book if they continue but you've not been genuine with them. I believe in ethics, integrity, honesty, and genuine human interaction, thinking about the customer as a person, not just thinking about the sales that it could bring. They are people, not numbers in our bank account. I care too much for people to do something like this.

    I appreciate the video content; however, the approach used by these individuals comes across as spammy. The upsell strategy feels reminiscent of outdated telemarketing tactics from the '90s, which can be off-putting. When entering payment information on a website, customers expect to proceed to the payment processing stage, not be bombarded with additional offers and pages. Personally, I find this tactic frustrating and would prefer to skip it entirely. In fact, I'd rather head to Amazon and purchase the book directly-simple, straightforward, and hassle-free

First you'll need to hire a website designer to make the pages "NOT CHEAP" then you'll need Web Hosting and a Domain. You're right. It's harder to sell 1,000 books on Amazon. But you can if you run ads. The challenge is that you get ~$5 in revenue, and no email addresses to build a relationship with your customer. That's why you use this funnel instead and run ads to it, because your return will be higher, because of the upsells along the way. This is why the funnel is being used so much, because you will get more back from your ad investment.

    • @fabiennehansen
      @fabiennehansen  7 місяців тому

      The challenge with KDP is that 1. you don't own the data, so you can't add your customers to your email list and 2. you can't upsell.
      The lower your average cart value, the less you can spend on ads. This is why Russell uses the upsells and downsells, because he increases the average cart value, and hence, he can spend more money on ads.
