    Thanks for a great video! I wanted to add that there’s a simple way to retract the e-brake so that it is really easy to push the piston back in. Instead of using a scan tool, there is a manual procedure to get into the parking brake service mode, see this video:
    ua-cam.com/video/f0brcSQbZtg/v-deo.htmlsi=JRd1LPkoKbcwf0Fz
    Essentially you start the car, hold down the brake and parking brake switch for 15 seconds until you see a “P” symbol on the dash, then you let go of both and tap the parking brake switch down once. After 10 seconds or so you will see “Parking Brake Released” and the e-brake is released until you get out of service mode. At this point I was able to push the pistons back in easily.
    To exit service mode and regain use of the e-brake, just start the car, and hold down the brake while pulling up on the e-brake switch for 10 seconds or so until it says Park Brake Released and the P symbol goes away. Now you are out of service mode.
    Between your videos and this method I was able to change out my front and rear brakes and rotors on my 2019 Traverse without any surprises. Thank you!

    I saw another listing where it said you need a scan tool to tell the electric motor that you’re compressing the piston. I guess that’s not true? Thanks for taking the time and making a great video!

      @@dadscandoittv ok, I need to do my grandmas brakes today & I don't want that to happen either, because then she will be all over me😑. That's why I'm asking so many questions to make sure. So you think the trick to keeping it from throwing a code is going slow then???

    • @dadscandoittv
      @dadscandoittv  Рік тому +2

      @@andrewdurfee2891 Honestly I cannot say for sure. What I can say is I did not get any warnings of any kind at all the way I did it on the video. I did not use any scan tool or anything special to avoid any warning lights. Exactly what I show in the video is exactly what I did. And you can never ask too many questions ask as many as you need.

    Those grooves in the piston need to align with the metal stud on the back of the caliper brake pad. Make not of the position of the caliper piston before you retract it. Stop when it is in the same position.

    If you take off the E Brake motor it is a bit easier to retract the caliper. It is just 2 small Allan head screws holding it on

    You have to release the electronic parking brake foo, that's why you're struggling to push the cylinder.

    • @omarcastro8970
      @omarcastro8970 3 місяці тому +1

      @dadscandoittv it's not that it's on,
      You have to release it, by doing the steps (turn the car on and press the brake and the e brake, hold them until the service light comes on, release it and press the e braak 1 time and the service light will vome on and the brakes will disengage also you can hear it when it does electronically. Then you can start working on it and press the cylinder without any issues) there's a video of it in here.. you have to do that before even start working on it.
      Or you can do it with a scanner as well.

      @dadscandoittv  3 місяці тому

      You said I damaged the caliper? Also you said that's wrong. I asked how? You explained how to do it in a way that will most likely cause air to go into the caliper, that right there will damage not only the caliper but the whole braking system. (IF air gets in). I'm not saying you're wrong. But I'd do it the way you explained only if I were bleeding the system. And bleeding the system is done for 2 reasons. 1) to get air out. Or 2) to get out old fluid.
