  • If you are familiar with our channel, you know that we spend at least half of the year living aboard our sailboat, Maverick in the Caribbean. We've been on the hunt for a lightweight and foldable e-bike that we can stow on the boat and bring to shore in different countries. This will greatly expand our ability to adventure wherever we sail! This bike can't be too heavy to load onto our dinghy, goose and take to the dock so weight is important to us! We've reviewed several e-bikes and so far, the Thunder 2 from 5th Wheel fits the bill! If you're looking for an AFFORDABLE and lightweight bike that can take you far in comfort, check this one out!

We have a company that is asking us to review a scooter. Let's see if that happens.

This one is in my price range... It seems these Ebikes can be very pricey! My question is how long do they last? I I had a friend tell me you can buy a battery and a motor and just turn a regular bike into an ebike.

That is a great question... Not sure how many miles you could expect to put on an ebike, but I will look into it for you to see an average. As far as doing a DIY E-bike I have seen people do them even have a friend that build a few. That might be a good idea for a new video... building an inexpensive DIY E-Bike!

Looks perfect for our boat as lifting the mars or the thunder 1f would be much heavier. Also, how much do you need to pedal to get throttle working? This would be for my wife. Usually due to our boat length we find ourselves on t-heads. Wife has pretty bad back and this would help dramatically. She sometimes sits on my dahon foldable and uses her feet to push off the dock to allow not to walk the whole distance. thanks in advance

Hi Capt Kev, Thanks for checking out our channel. When I looked at the other folding bikes that's the conclusion I came to. They would be too heavy and bulky to easily transport on a boat. You need to do 1/2 to 1 full revolution of the pedal and then you can take over with the throttle. I will say this, the throttle will go 20 MPH even if you are just in pedal assist one, but you can control the speed with the amount of throttle you give the bike. It does take a little bit getting used to so maybe practice somewhere other than the dock that first time! lol
