      That's pretty nice for a cheap place. So what is an average price restaurant like? I thought it would be a lot cheaper in Russia.

      In Texas, this is called a cafeteria. It is relatively inexpensive but decent quality food. You pay for each dish you choose. Around $10 for a meal but less if you only get a small salad. There are chain cafeterias such as Luby's, Wyatt's and Picadilly. This is not a buffet as another commenter mentioned.
      The difference between a cafeteria and a buffet is, in a buffet, the customer helps himself to food and can go back for whatever food he wants, as many times as he wants. People eat a lot of food. Buffets get a lot of business but the price goes way up with quality. There are cheap, horrible food places to very expensive places where you can eat as much steak and lobster as you want. Las Vegas is great on offering various buffets but it is better not to be cheap.
      A cafeteria style restaurant like Canteen No.1. is a good value. I really like the interior and the compote drinks look refreshing. We do not have many choices for fruit drinks but we usually have strong, sweet, iced tea in the hot American southern states.

    I'm visiting St. Petersburg with my boyfriend in May and honestly, this is exactly the kind of places we plan to go to eat in order to save money, but also to get a more local feeling. Like someone said already, fancy places are the same everywhere! I definitely wouldn't consider this a waste of time as the place looks clean and the food tasty. Thank you for this video and so many others!

      How is that quality? Buckwheat porridge is healthy but it's very cheap to make, the cost of the buckwheat is probably $0.15. The vinaigrette is mostly cheap beetroot and carrots I believe. The drink is from a concentrate. Fried chicken is decent. I would not pay that much for it, it's bland taste wise.

    • @infiltr80r
      @infiltr80r 4 роки тому

      @@ilyag8044 Plenty of western places offer you salads, fish, potatoes etc and it's affordable considering the salaries. Ever since the Soviet era, the produce typically is not organic in that large amounts of chemical fertilizer was used.
      Also nutritionally, just because something isn't GMO, it's not always of better quality. You can have perfectly organic vegetables which grew in poor soil and are low in nutritional value.

    In America that would be a cafeteria, because you pay by the plate/item of food and drink. A buffet is different, at a buffet you pay a set price and you can eat has much has you want. Golden Corral (a chain restaurant in the USA) a buffet. I don't think there are many cafeteria's left in the USA most have been replaced by fast food restaurants and food courts.

    nice video.. but to be clear > a canteen is > a restaurant provided by an organization such as a military camp, college, factory, or company for its soldiers, students, staff, etc. What you are showing is more of a cafeteria / buffet.. A cafeteria is a type of food service location in which there is little or no waiting staff table service, whether a restaurant or within an institution such as a large office building or school. A buffet is a meal consisting of several dishes from which guests serve themselves.
    Either way - your command of English language is well developed. I enjoy watching you in your beautiful city with its rich history.

I used to go to Piter for holidays from time to time and I've had the best time ever there, even during rainy november. I came to the city alone but i've not been alone for a single moment there. So many nice and friendly people, the city was young and alive and just beautiful. There was a super cozy café where you would pay for the time you spend there - tea, coffee and cookies were included and you could just read, play piano, play games and actually meet people. Also I went to Stalovaja No.1 on a daily basis - for breakfast, lunch and dinner :D

      Starbucks food is crap. With the exception of bagels, their food is either grossly overpriced, poorly made, or both, usually both. But to be fair, people don't go to Starbucks for the food. They go for the coffee, to work or study, and often bring their own food.

    Also thank you for alerting me to new phrases to learn in Russian! I like Russian language. (The best version of the song "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica I ever heard was partly sung in Russian on The Voice Russia).
    Good advice, if in Russia for a short time I would rather eat at more of the middle places.
