    Another good video of an pretty interesting delay. If you need Send&Return mainly for filtering and drive in the delay line, this delay could save a lot of space and money. Right now my favorite delay for delay tones on the cleaner side (in contrast to some noise engineering stuff).

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  Рік тому +1

      It certainly does lots of cleaner tones really well, though I leaned into the character stuff here pretty quickly as I've really enjoyed that aspect of it.

      Yeah it absolutely gets incredibly close to my tape units. The valve like soft drive and way the modulation is set up is fantastic for it.

      I jumped on the Thonk wait list .
      The ModCan Dual Delay has been a fav of mine..probably hard to find anymore.
      I also dig the PT2399 units like Synthrotek's DLY ..the run-away feedback can hit that King Tubby sweet spot.

    I believe the Magneto might be the closest sounding delay module with the old worn out tape option… but the Veno-Echo sounds seems to tick all the boxes in what I want from a dual/stereo delay module as far as versatility and and CV options. I’m truly sold due to this video.

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  Рік тому +1

      Hi Kev, Magneto is fantastic I'm a big Strymon fan. It doesn't have the resonance option for the filtering or drive that this does, which goes a long way to really shaping those feedback trails. Totally agree those two are the closest things for that tape sound though.

    Stoked to see that their ADC is 24bit, 48khz. Wonderful that digital modules are finally catching up to the fidelity levels that are expected from people who have spent thousands building rich analog synth machines and don't want to run their precious through a mobile phone-quality fx processor. Of course, the price tag on this is nothing to scoff at either, but it sounds like the price is probably justified, since its closest competitor is the Magneto, which is even pricier (and a lot bigger).

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  Рік тому +1

      Hi Duncan, that's the Vortices from SSF with the Mutes expander.
      It comes with a 2HP expander to add voltage control over the levels but the Mutes expander gives the Mutes which are really handy. It mutes and unmutes as you let go too, which feels way more performative.

    For Frippertronics, how are you setting (and playing in time to) a phrase length without a Record button?

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  2 роки тому

      just improvising. To be blunt there's really nothing to it. Play something, fairly spacious and wait for it to come back around. Listen, react and improvise around it.
      If I was trying to play to a grid or clocked material it would be more of an issue. But just freely playing and exploring is really fun.
      Here's a video with the Synthesis Technology E520 doing the same thing. ua-cam.com/video/3-yetjC8Ey4/v-deo.html this unit can be a more traditional looper but just playing, leaving overdubs open and exploring I find really engaging.

  • @Duplanmodular

    Can you, very simply, mix the output between the 2 delays ? Go from one short delay to a longer one for example ?

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  Рік тому +2

      You could patch the sound in with a 50/50 mix patching to the left input, then out of the left output to the right input and right output is your final out ... that gives an interesting mix of both the first delay and the dry signal getting delayed by a longer one (presuming left side short, right side long). This is something I like to do generally with FX.
      But ... much simpler there is a cross feedback knob and a width knob to play with how the sounds are routed between the two delays.

    Looks/sounds great. If they'd just had a real 'looping' mode it would be a perfect replacement for the Magneto (which is wonderful, but takes a lot of hp).
    BTW, I looked at their website, but there doesn't seem to be any outlets yet. Do you have any info on where we can find it?

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  2 роки тому +2

      Yeah I agree a normal looper mode would be great, but the control set is pretty different. Although I love that hybrid space of delay as a looper, looper as a delay and bending and twisting between them.
      The Venus Instruments website (bit.ly/venusinstruments ) has it up for sale with PayPal and credit card options. But stock is going out to all stores that ordered from distribution and should have been there ready for last night. Global shipping is wild around Christmas so it might just take a few days to show up. Only one I can currently see is a Perfect Circuit pre order. But others should follow soon.
      Perfect Circuit affiliate - bit.ly/DK-perfectcircuit - if you care to use it which passively supporters me with a little kick back. There's also a Patreon exclusive discount code for Perfect Circuit too if you care for that.

      They had a previous version of this. I have one. It’s 4hp larger, doesn’t have nearly as large a buffer, and does not have drive, sample rate reduction, or karplus strong. It’s a fantastic echo. I’m hoping this new firmware will run on the older model, but I’m thinking probably not, and I can’t afford over $500 for another delay, lol.

    Flippintronics? Is that the tape delay technique developed in 1963 which Terry Riley used or the same technique Eno 'invented' in 1973 that Fripp gave his name to. 🤓
    Lovely & insightful patching (as always).x

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah Terry Riley's dual reel machines with degrading loops is the core, 10 years earlier in the early 60s I think, if my degree is still in my head somewhere. I feel it's more commonly known (certainly with guitar) as Frippertronics with Eno and Fripp.

    No feedback insert is a deal breaker.

    • @DivKid
      @DivKid  2 роки тому

      What would you want to put in the feedback path? You could patch a feedback path (it is modular*) and there's drive and filters in the feedback path. So it's offering some standard options.
      *RE patching a feedback loop, one around Beads is really nice so you can shimmer the reverb. Bandpass output of a filter inverted and back into a multi mode filter is a fun one too.

    • @lordsharshabeel

      @@DivKid I’ve had some really cool results patching very slowly modulated stuff in feedback paths like phasers or simple tremolo gain with an LPG. I’ve even tried it with control signals to get an organic plucked type envelope.
      It’s technically possible to make your own feedback path with any delay that goes to 100% wet, but it’s a pain and requires mixers and mults.
      In my opinion, eurorack still doesn’t have a simple workhorse delay. Everyone tries to get all fancy and they skip over the essentials: both 1v/oct and clock control over time, hardwired/normaled analog insert path, super hi-fi digital engine. The closest I’ve seen is the Eventide EuroDDL, but it’s too expensive and large because they added all these features.
