I hope everyone enjoys this. I am really proud to share this video and I hope it lives forever! After the Arsenal kit launch many younger fans asked about Rocky and hopefully this helps them. Thanks for all your love and support.
I played as an Apprentice with David at Arsenal. He was a Beautiful Man who always looked out for other's. Broke my Heart and I will never forget him when I think of Great British Footballers. RIP David Rocastle.
Thank you Ian and Tifo. As a boy in the 90s from The Netherlands I loved English football. Arsenal was my favorite team and my best mate supported Man United. And although the name Rocastle always rang a bell, I never knew his story. So, thank you.
Ooh Rocky Rocky... I was born a couple years before he sadly passed but from what my Dad told me, he was incredible. You’ve done him proud here Wrighty ❤️
Jacob Page Well said, and this is comming form a person who knew him and played 7 aside football against him at school. A wonderful player even at 13 years old, and a humble person who always had time for people may his wonderful soul rest in piece" And wrighty what a wonderful tribute to Rocky as well
thank you so much for doing this Wrighty!!!! You may be my favourite Gooner of all time.....but Rocky is the reason I started supporting the club. He was a fighter, highly gifted with the heart of a lion. Thank you for keeping his memory alive. Future generations of fans need to know who he was as he embodied everything Arsenal in attitude and ethos.
I'm a Liverpool fan who remembers when the rise of Arsenal contributed to our fall from the best in England, and Rocastle was a key part of that. He was an excellent player with excellent ball-control, passing and shooting. He's certainly a man to be respected.
the winner against Spurs in 87 at WHL. The goal at Anfield in 88 in the league cup. The Middlesbrough goal. The Man Utd chip. Stuart Pearce and Julian Dicks said he was the most skilful and hardest winger they ever played against. A truly gifted player who David Dein described as being Arsenals Brazilian. It was evident he was loved by his team mates and fans and hugely respected by his opponents and their fans. The player that all other clubs would have wanted. How much would he transfer for today. £50m £60m or more. Beautiful tribute to a life tragically cut short. You will never be forgotten. RIP Rocky.
As a Malaysian and a Sabahan, I'm very proud to say that the legendary David "Rocky" Rocastle ever played in Sabah eventhough I didn't had the chance to watch him play before his death.
Went to my first Arsenal game in 1988 and was mesmerised by Rocky. Tough, skilful and quick, he had the lot and as a young kid, I could never understand why he didn't play every minute but clearly that knee was the reason. Met you in New York last summer Ian and was great to talk to you briefly about you and Rocky. Two Arsenal heroes. RIP Rocky
we'd all do well to have a friend like wrighty, you stay keeping david's name in everyone's ear and I salute you for that amongst a bag of other things
All Arsenal fans young and old should know or learn about David Rocastle. It's a shame his Arsenal career was cut short because of injuries. One of Arsenal's greats and a great lad too (by all accounts). Thank you Wrighty for this. RIP Rocky
Yes wrighty!! My hero as a kid and now . Used to play with your attitude tackling centre halves like a mad man !! Hungry for goals you was what I wanted to be .. now I listen to you and you are a humble guy speaking so honestly about other legends of the game . Rocky obviously meant the world to you .. never stop telling the world about him mate
Yup true. He played for my states Sabah FA in Malaysia and he played very well but he gone too soon. Rip rocky your good deeds will always reminds in our heart. Once a gunner always a gunner ♥
I played as an Apprentice with David at Arsenal. He was a Beautiful Man who always looked out for other's. Broke my Heart and I will never forget him when I think of Great British Footballers. RIP David Rocastle.
I watched the whole of the Brockley to the Big time, this is a great summary of his life and it never makes me forget about the great players we had in the late 80s/ early 90s. He was your mate Wrighty, but he was also our friend. A man that every Arsenal fan could identify, a working class lad who grew up in London and lived the dream. Technically that goal against Middlesboro on a muddy pitch was as good as anything you would see today. Rocky glided across the turf, but he was as hard as nails too. A man who when the chips were down, would always stick up for his team mates. Thanks, Wrighty for this.
David Rocastle was a legend and there's not many players that are on my wall at home but he is I remember him at Highbury and also scoring against Liverpool away when I went thoroughly missed gone to soon
Straight to the Favourites files before I'd absorbed one second of content. Mr. Rocastle was, and still is, not only my favourite footballer of all time, as well as one of the most gracious and admirable human beings ever. A true citizen of the world lost far too soon.
How many takes to do that, Ian? I can hear ur emotion in ur voice, which chokes me up! Much love for our fallen bro' & he's lovely family ❤ I lost my wife too, she was 37. Like David, so much to live for & someone with so much to give the world & make it a better place! 'Rocky' ur a true Legend, Never forgorron! 🔴⚪
The Rocastle, Davis & Thomas Arsenal is the one from the era that i grew up in and...WHAT a player this dude was..That whole midfield was just powerful..R.I.P Rocky Rocastle..YNWA
I enjoyed that. Rocastle was a very popular player with Leeds fans too. When he signed for us I was elated. Just a shame that he couldn't get back consistent form. RIP David Rocastle. You're still a hero to many of us.
rocky was and still is an ICON of arsenal ....he lives on in our memories and those of us who saw him play will never forget him and will always be thankful for his efforts at arsenal
This is beautifully narrated Ian. Told from the heart, and it shows. My first game was in '90 - 91 season when I was 10 and him and yourself were players I loved. Thanks for this.
I lived close to Arsenal around the time David was playing. I had a signed picture on my wall as a boy. I have great memories of him being one of Arsenals most exciting players. RIP David Rocastle, never forgotten.
He was always faster stronger and more skilful than the other guys, hard to believe he passed away so young with so much more to offer the world, his memory will live forever the fans always remember the real ones.
Great link up. How fitting for Wrighty to do this before he reaches 100 thousand subscribers. Rest In Power Rocky...gone but not forgotten. ARSENAL...SOUTH LONDON!!!
Ian. You Absolute Legend. I thank you for telling us younger generations what kind of a player he was. I think he has left behind a legacy that would never be forgotten. And till this day, even though i never saw him play, I do love and remember him. Thank You, Wrighty and Rocky for making the Arsenal i love, the way it is today❤️
I was too young to see him play in his prime but I always hear the affection the fans held him in. I remember being shocked that a football player could die at such an early age. The way Wrighty talks of him with such emotion, I wish I had seen him play back in those days. God bless you, mate.
We miss and love you Rocky!!! Your were my childhood hero bringing me some of the BEST footballing memories. With the exception of maybe Henry and Dennis, you were the greatest Arsenal player I ever had the fortune to see! God bless
Brilliant narration of an Arsenal Legend by a fellow Arsenal Legend, and more importantly, his legendary teammate, friend. Rocky always in our hearts and memories. Cheers fellow goners...
So touching story, it was very interesting to get to know the story of one of our best players! Thank you Mr. Wright for putting your heart in this small video for us.
What a wonderful tribute to a player who categorically deserves one. I felt myself getting emotional at the mention of how injury so affected his career, and as you talked of his passing at a young age and the family he was taken from, I had to consciously strengthen myself. I am not an Arsenal fan, and I particular disliked the Arsenal moulded by George Graham, but he was a player (and a man) for whom it was quite easy to suspend dislike and even go beyond grudging admiration. His children might have largely grown up without him, but they sure can be proud of their dad.
U had shared a similar story on the true Geordie podcast I believe. I have so much respect for u and him even as a Man Utd fan because of what u have been through and how u can show the world these stories in a manner we can learn from. Big respect🙏
Brought tears to my eyes. The story of my favourite player Rocky, narrated by my second favourite player Ian Wright. I'll never forget you David and your name and number is the only one I ever get on the back of my Arsenal shirts. R.I.P Gone but never forgotten
Ian your content is absolutely second to none. The way you've adapted to social media and having to maintain an online brand is incredible and I'm really really happy to see what you're making and how you're making us feel. Thank you.
by all accounts this man was a beautiful soul, pleased that his name lives on through the hearts of arsenal fans, as a West Ham fan and more importantly football fan, it’s a testament to the game that good humans are rewarded with immortality in the hearts and minds of supporters
An AMAZING; INSPIRING, and THOUGHT PROVOKING story beautifully told by another Arsenal LEGEND! Rocky was taken from us way way too soon! It brings tears to my eyes just thinking what he could have been - if not for injury & fatal illness ultimately??? 😲😲 He clearly TOUCHED the lives of so many, and is one of the main reasons WHY Arsenal FC are currently LOVED so greatly! 😃❤️
I wasn’t alive to witness rocastle but I’ve heard stories of how good he was at such a young age, someone like him would’ve gone for 100 million + in this day and age
David Rocastle's last club was in Sabah FA, Malaysia. Hence why there are so many Arsenal supporter here. Rest in peace. So glad to see he played for my hometown club ❤️ ❤️❤️

I was there at OT when he did that chip and wasted the MUFC midfield.
A memory that will never leave me
Love the way it bounced off the crossbar and hit Schmiechel on the head on the way in. Poor guy didn't know what had happened.
