Investigators now believe that due to the passage of time, Anthonette is deceased. If she is still alive today, she would be fourty years old.
Anthonette's mother, Penny Cayedito, eventually passed away in 1999. Before her death, the police had wanted to question her again about Anthonette's disappearance but her death complicated their investigation. Police now believe Penny knew more about her daughter's abduction than she had told as she had failed a polygraph test.

Marliss Gross is almost certainly correct about what happened to her baby. In that time period, it was extremely common for doctors to tell unwed, young, or otherwise (in their eyes) "unfit" mothers that their babies had died, and then adopt the babies out without telling anyone. The fact that they wouldn't let Marliss see her own baby and they rushed the funeral so it happened while she was still in hospital are basically dead giveaways.
I was born only slightly more than a decade later in Canada, and something similar happened to my biological mother (she was forced to put me up for adoption because the authorities refused to consider putting me in foster care for a year or two while my biological mother finished high school).

if one of the sisters saw or heard anthonette answering the door and being taken, why didn't they try to wake up the mom? they just fell back to sleep and then acted all surprised when the mom discovered she was gone in the morning? also i grew up in the 80s 90s and when i prank called 911 ( i lived in the country, middle of nowhere in cali ) they came right to our door and i only called for a second so what the heck! why couldn't they trace anthonettes call? And also, notice that Epstein lived near Albuquerque NM as well? not saying him but sex/child trafficking is and was huge in NM hence why he built one of his houses there, he also didn't even have to report being a sex offender there. her case just seems so suspicious to me. also i dont think that girl in the diner was anthonette, it's a girl that was kidnapped or trafficked too but not anthonette. Why didn't they at least examine anthonettes writing from home or school with the note from the diner? it seems to me like they did not even try to solve this girls case, like they just put no effort at all. Not to mention the police did not even start looking for anthonette until the day after she disappeared!

It was Jeffery McDonald's father in law that invested a huge amount of effort to put him on the trail. This detail should have been mentioned. He told his father in law, he killed one of the murder, he later admitted it was a lie. He later appeared on TV complained about how unfair he was treated by the CID. That man is probably guilty.

Guys, maybe there is a way to solve the Antonette Cayedito case. All that the family has to do is remember very very hardly of some of there long lost friends or ex partners that they've worked with. Then they just might find them or maybe the kidnappers could be their ex-neighbor or somebody that has acted very weird towards their child, wanting to raise her as their own.

@@HanginWitLucid Because she had a history of lying. I am disappointed with how Unsolved Mysteries framed this story. It was very poorly done. She confessed and recanted her story multiple times. A big issue is that her initial stories didn't match the evidence collected. It was only after she saw crime scene photos that she tailored her story to match the scene. Also, she knew Jeffrey MacDonald, so, it's not a stretch to say her story confirmed his - later, of course, after he was charged.
What this sequence also glosses over is the fact the witnesses saw her around the time she should have been at Jeffrey's house assisting with the others - who drove. Yet she was both there ... and walking around Fort Bragg? That also contradicts Helen, too, who never claimed to be standing on any corner or that she was separated from the group of friends who did the killings. They also obtained fingerprints from Helena and they did not match any fingerprints found at the house. Neither did her DNA. Multiple people also said that Helen did not own a blonde wig, and was not wearing a blonde wig that night. Finally, in 2006, DNA tests showed the hair in Colette's hand was Jeffery's.
The evidence is overwhelming against Jeffrey. He's a murderer.

New forensic evidence continues to suggest that Jeffrey was indeed guilty and that there was nobody else in the house other than the family. Neither Helena nor Greg's DNA was found at all in the house. Their confessions were contradictory and repeatedly considered unreliable. The evidence also did not match their statements. DNA believed to have belonged to intruders was determined to come from either Jeffrey or the victims. The hair found in Colette's hand was determined to have come from Jeffrey. Other hairs not identified as belonging to the MacDonalds are believed to have been naturally shed (as no root was found). It is believed that the "wig hair" found at the scene was actually from one of the girl's dolls.
A federal marshal named Jimmy Britt later came forward, claiming that Helena had confessed to him while he transferred her to North Carolina for the trial. He also claimed that a prosecutor had threatened to charge her with murder if she testified. However, records were found that showed that two other marshals had transferred Helena that day and that he had apparently never met her. The reasons for him lying are not known, as he died before the story came out.
Other evidence not mentioned in the segment seemed to point towards Jeffrey being responsible. A piece of surgical glove was found near where the word "Pig" was written in blood; it is believed that the glove was used to write the word. The glove was discovered to match gloves found underneath the sink in the MacDonald home. Wounds found on Kristen's body indicated that the killer stabbed her with "anatomical precision". Furthermore, the evidence showed that the killer had lifted up her shirt before stabbing, presumably to better identify the location of vital organs.
When Jeffrey's pajama top was folded in the same manner as it was found on Colette's body, it was shown that the pattern of puncture holes through the garment was strikingly similar to the pattern of icepick wounds suffered by Colette. Moreover, the pocket to the pajama top was found in the master bedroom, and it was shown at trial that the pocket had been stained with Colette's blood prior to being torn from the garment.
Following the murders, Jeffrey told Colette's stepfather that he had found one of the murders and killed them himself. He later admitted lying about this because he wanted his stepfather-in-law to "stop bothering" and move on. He also apparently lied about who urinated in his bed. He claimed Kristen had done it, but testing on the urine indicated that it belonged to Kimberly. He also allegedly said that he felt "relief" that his family was gone. A separate group of four people were located that matched the description of the alleged intruders. The people were friends of Jeffrey's brother but had no ties to North Carolina. It has been suggested that he used their physical descriptions for his descriptions of the intruders.
The 4th Circuit Court Jeffrey's motion for additional DNA testing in 2016. Jeffrey MacDonald has an appeal pending of his request for further DNA testing. He will be eligible for parole in 2020. He continues to maintain his innocence.
