The story is so beautiful, and especially the tribute to the boys who died in Vietnam. It brought tears to my eyes. You are so talented Bill -- I will always think of you whenever Elvis sings "If I Can Dream". Thank you !!
+MaryElizabeth99 You would probably cry even more if you ever went to the museum in Ho Chi Min City Vietnam. I know I did last year when we were there.
+Lynne Taylor I'm sure Lynne. A war unnecessary and built on lies, and have read the boys fighting there wondered what for. My father was on the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor and I think because of that it helped me have a little different view of war since young, and to see both sides, as most people who die in war are innocent and/or used for that purpose. It took me into my later 50's to understand what is normally behind war. Thank you for your share. I will research the museum.
If I Can Dream is a beautiful song no one can sing it like Elvis. He put his heart into every word . Thankyou Elvis. We love and miss you so very much.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Elvis had incredibly intense feelings, very empathic, that came out in his music and the way he moved and danced. He was passionate about the words and music he sang. Everyone who watched him perform could feel it. That’s why he is the king of rock & roll to this day.
It's always been one of my favourite Elvis songs, and probably the greatest performance of Elvis, in my opinion. I had never heard about the story of the Vietnam connection before. It just makes the performance even more special now. Magnificent and moving.
1968! ( I was just 5 years old)...." If I Can Dream" still speaks to us today!! Elvis sang that song to honer ALL the USA guys in Vietnam , MLK & RFK too! What a very tragic year! Fantastic song! Just as " What's Going On?" by the late great Marvin Gaye, in 1971....*....Classic's!
I never knew the story about the suit but always knew it had something special for Elvis what a heart Elvis has one of his blessing was always giving! Thanks for sharing your story
This song could be the theme song for the world today and going forward. It's timeless. ✌🏻 Thank you EP. The world lost the best there ever was. You will never ever be forgotten. ✌🏻❤
1968 was a very turbulent year for this country and this aired in December of that year and that song was quite fitting and yes, It was a message song for this country.
That ouffit doing if i can dreamwith Elvis pssionate charisma shining brite every emotion in the song and his body language.I get all choked up and cry every time i watch and listen.
No. Elvis specifically dedicated the song If I Can Dream to Martin Luther King. It was also mentioned in the documentary - This Is Elvis - but they have since edited it out.
@@369tfs I agree. But Elvis's reason was mainly because of the racist murder of Martin Luther King and all the trouble going on in America at the time. It was mainly racial tensions on the part of white America.
Very moving story, it could still be said of today's wars, but, just as Good had David kill Goliath, we do what we have to do, both my Son & Daughter served 8 yrs each in the Marine Corp, good training & the Grace of God got them both home safely... They will never forget those brothers in arms fighting the good fight, who didn't get home safely, they will live those memories forever, my Son fought in Falliugha Iraq, after he got home, he wore a memory bracelet for a brother who I'm sure didn't get home alive, but, he didn't say much about it and I just give him space & support & above all, prayers, I can't count the prayers I prayed for my children & their crew, I still pray today & still cry for our troops when hard things happen, I love our troops & our Country so very much, it's nice to hear your story, that others care as much as I still do. Thank you, Sheila C 🕊️🕊️💕
Wow! Much respect too our service men. I seen a documentary Elvis and the song writer decided this song "IF I HAD A DREAM" too Martin Luther King Jr. "I HAD A DREAM" . Research facts 💯
That year was the most horrible year. ASSASSINATIONs home and abroad. You think it's been bad recently? You have no idea. I was 14 and absorbed it all like a sponge. It was heartwrenching. My older brother had just returned from Vietnam and my other one had just been deployed that year. MLK Jr., Bobby Kennedy, so many dreams ripped away everyday from the families of the boys fighting...when will we ever learn?!
Somehow does not surprise me. I don't think Elvis would sing anything he did not feel. All of his songs had meaning to them that everyone can relate to. Just my thoughts only! That is what makes him so special to his fans!
Bill was not the guy the "guy was his wife. She designed his wardrobe. Elvis was in Vietnam back and forth for years because he was a doctor. So was his wife. They were both murdered in May 5 1969. I'm referring to the two things you wrote, MLK & the Civil Rights movement, that was why I said you played the race card... As being a lot of Native American Indian, Cherokee in fact, I think of The Trail of Tears, but, who cares about that??? I guess I can relate to as I say playing the race card, I don't have one to play, that's who cares, nobody... And that's all I care to say, Thank you. Sheila C 🕊️
That made even less sense that your first post. Apparently even thinking about the Civil Rights Movement is racist in your book, despite the obvious similarities in the song. You sound like someone who has such a chip on her shoulder that you find ways to twist a simple observation into something you can rail against. I have no time for your sort. If you continue to harass me, I'll report you.
E3ECO said it made him think of MLK. It did for me too but that was before this UA-cam. Now when I see the red scarf I'll think of the blood spilled in Vam as well. It's not racist to think of MLK first. It was 1968!!! The title alone would make anyone with a brain think of MLK. How very stupid of you Sheila. RME
So inconsiderate, how's bout you take your smart ass and join to defend the helpless & the freedom you've just used, Free Speech, go defend that... Punk If you can't say something nice, shut up!!!!!
That was beautiful. He was beautiful.

If I Can Dream is TIMELESS!! It is meant for 2017 also with all that is going on. Great touching story.

ELVIS A WONDERFUL, BEAUTIFUL MAN. HE IS "THE KING". NO ONE ELSE CAN COMPARE TO HIM.

thats the story about the suit, the song was written after Marten luther King was killed, and Elvis was the only one who would sing this song
And only on the special.
Della Reese sang this song.
Beautiful story!
Amazing story, I love the song If I Can Dream and after hearing this story makes me appreciate the song even more.

Truth Hitman it can have more than one reason.
@@369tfs I agree. But Elvis's reason was mainly because of the racist murder of Martin Luther King and all the trouble going on in America at the time. It was mainly racial tensions on the part of white America.
No Elvis was not political but there was never any doubt that he loved our country
Thanks for sharing this story

Woow....lovely story
it would of been nice if ya`ll could have shared that little tidbit back then -
yeah.. thats , Elvis!
In the early days of when Elvis returned to performing he always looked great in white with his tan and jet black hair ...
Bill Belew was a remarkable designer. However, in Elvis he did have a great model to hang his designs on.

She was a medic in Vietnam decorated for valor. One of the first females to gain a purple heart.
He was the actor Luke Askew and Bruce Lee the original.
Interesting. That song doesn't make me think of Vietnam though. For me, it brings to mind MLK and the Civil Rights movement.
E3ECO Well, the story says it was for Vietnam too, don't throw down that Race Card, Elvis wasn't racist at all, why are you???
Huh? What are you talking about? Where did I say anything about Elvis being a racist?
I'm referring to the two things you wrote, MLK & the Civil Rights movement, that was why I said you played the race card... Della Reese's version
They buried him init in july 1975 .actually!
He definitely didnt die in 75.
They didn't bury him in this suit since it is at Graceland on display.....and he died in 1977 not 1975 august 16th....
oh for fuck's sake
What the hell is your problem?
